The oddest posters

Which one?

No, he wasn’t essentially correct - he was significantly underestimating, then dug in his heels. It’s actually pretty easy to whip up what you call a “group think” moment - just be determinedly wrong about something and it’ll start with people pointing out your mistake, then mocking you for persisting in the mistake, then getting annoyed at you for persisting in the mistake. Then keep them fired up, making a half-hearted concession that is still wrong (perhaps not as wrong as your initial assertion) and re-dig those heels. For extra laughs, eventually concede that they’re right, but that you were also right from the beginning. If anyone quotes your earlier statements, ignore them or say that only proves you were right all along.

Hilarity ensues.

I REALLY liked Snark Hunter, the guy who claimed that he was divinely guided by, um, body signals. What?!? A funny guy…

Oh yeah, and the fall of Islam and all that, but that part later got lost in the general discussion.

Hello Mr. Ekers. I’m pretty sure you’re on the wrong side of history here. But I’ve been wrong many times.

Mr. **Blake’**s initial post set out his position: “I doubt that. There is an upper limit on how far any animal can jump, and it’s about 2 feet IIRC. Any ability to clear higher objects involves scrambling or, as in the case of human high jumpers, shifting the centre of gravity.”
Please note the “IIRC.”

Less than 3 hours later, in post #21, he provided a cite (not definitive, but better than his opposition), saying “grasshoppers, cats, people, and horses can all jump about a meter.” The “about a meter” figure continued to be his position during his participation in thread.

Mr. Ekers, have you reviewed the YouTube videos added to the thread in 2016? The best footage located, has a fellow measuring his Savannah cats leaping ability. There are measuring sticks in the frames and slow motion footage is provided. My analysis is that the Savannah raises its center of gravity 48".

That’s 120% of a meter. IMO that supports Blake’s posts, which were dogmatic only it that they requested cites and/or good evidence – rather than anecdotes. It sure as hell supports his position more that it supports the people tossing around figures like 12 feet, or talking about animals leaping out of the ocean (as if that was the slightest bit relevant.)

So Mr. Ekers, do you feel that 120% of a meter is too high to qualify as “about”? Do you have superior evidence about animal leaping than that in the Youtube videos? Do you feel that the discussion should have only been about how high a barrier any animal can clear, rather than how high any animal can raise its center of gravity using muscle power?

Hey Baal, Here’s a youtube video stating kangaroos can jump 30 feet. Which goes to show you how valid YouTube videos are as documentation as kangaroos jump about 10 feet.

Also, did you know it is against the rules to have two user names?

Yes I do.

What a weird fact to have in an article titled “BREAKING: Hours After First Intelligence Briefing, Trump Likely Leaked CLASSIFIED Secrets”

Ha! Didn’t copy the url as I thought. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1L0YNsvZYNQ

P.S. Tigers leap 12 to 15 feet. However, each time a record height is recorded, another higher jump is witnessed. https://www.reference.com/pets-animals/high-can-tiger-jump-deb69df4efc82fed

Yeah, but Trump can leap upwards of 50 feet. His leaps are huge. Just ask him.

Your heart really isn’t in this “Fighting Ignorance” thing, is it?

Hi Biggirl. The discussion generally (and Blake’s input in particular) focussed on standing jumps, i.e. bursts of muscle power – rather than building up energy by building up speed over an extended stretch of time.

As for two usernames – I get the joke, but it’s pretty sad that standing up for someone holding the fort of evidence almost singlehanded for pages on end is considered humorous. Whereas a group of 15 or 20 people, each promoting individual flavors of anecdotes and malarkey, can form a powerful friendship of convenience, and overlook their points of disagreement for the greater good. And that’s just righteous shit babe.

I’ve actually commented on the Jumping Thread on THREE separate occasions, and feel a little silly doing so, but someone else brought it up… so it’s one more sashay into the breach. But I think I’ve presented enough info here that a disinterested party could make up their own mind.

Well, perhaps I should clarify: Yes I do have no intention whatsoever of revisiting the topic of Blake’s behaviour. I had some good lines on the first page of that thread and that’s good enough.

Oooorrrrr. . . you can admit you were wrong (as there is plenty of evidence that animals jump way over that stupid limit-- a cursory google trip will do) as I have presented enough info for you to do so.

But wait. You did admit animals can jump over a meter, didn’t you. O.K., go one being righteous.

Does anyone remember a skydiving, uber sexual, quadriplegic by any chance?

Is that a crime now? What’s odd about it?

You have a point.

I’m pretty sure you mean Lekatt IIRC his first action on this post was to start a thread “Life continues after physical death. Is this proof of God’s existence?” He immediately found that Doper standards of evidence were considerably more rigid and specific than the ones he used. I responded as an Etheric Scientist (this was a shtick taken from a role playing game published by White Wolf.) saying I’d been out of my body, scanned his soul, and that he’d never had a Near Death Experience. He immediately demanded I prove my abilities by proposing a test of something I’d never claimed to be able to do. I continued making in character responses to all his posts. Apparently some readers thought I was crazy, most got that I was just refusing to break character, and a few made references showing they also played White Wolf games. Eventually, one of the mods asked me to drop the shtick.

This is my pick of the amusing crazies. There are a lot of people who post (usually as One Tricks) about their particular fetish. They often try to make it sound like they are just relating an anecdote, or asking for information or otherwise disguise what is going on. But what is really going on is that they are just trying to talk about or have others talk about the subject of their fetish so they can type with one hand. After a while you can pick them. There was that guy who posted an anecdote about playing explicit footsie under the table with his friend’s Korean wife for example.

But the steel hook person was the greatest, weirdest funniest example ever.

A lion could totally leap higher, to beat a tiger in a fight.

That shtick of yours was brilliant and I was disappointed when the mods asked you stop. The key to it was that we eventually boxed Lekatt into a position where he had to argue that anything anyone said should be regarded as true until the opposite was proven.

So when you alleged you had a way of detecting whether he had ever had an NDE, he was stuck because he couldn’t prove you didn’t.

Immediately? It seemed like it went on for years and years.

Lekatt was not the sort of poster that gave up merely because he was struggling.
