Oscar - ? (big afro dude) and then “rational consumer” (by the way, was there something more to the “rational consumer” bit than just Oscar in his regular clothes – the way he was saying it suggested a metajoke of some kind, but I didn’t catch it)
Oscar had been ranting about the prize (the coupon book) being not worth anything close to the $15,000 it was advertised as. Hence, he is being rational by not attempting to win it (and, of course, winning it in the end…), since it is actually a money-losing prize unless you actually want any of the items contained in the book.
Ah. I took the tone to indicate he was quite proud of himself (as usual). Just your basic smug superiority, and a feeling that he found himself a bit more clever than he really was. Didn’t he repeat the line to a few people in a row?
Also, it was a bitching Edward James Olmos costume…
I guessed that too, but NBC’s Office Halloween Photos said he was a 70’s pimp. That’s also where it said that Ryan was Justin Bieber and Kelly was Snooki / Katy Perry.
I think they missed a joke opportunity with the costumes. First, Darryl should’ve walked past Stanley in the Dracula outfit. Then, Andy Bernard tells Stanley that he is the dude from True Blood. Stanley says “*How *many damn vampires am I supposed to keep *track *of?”
Meredeth tells Stanley she is Sookie. Stanley replies “how many *damn *vampires am I *supposed *to keep track of?”
Kelly tells Stanley she is Snookie. Stanley sighs and mutters “how many damn vampires am I supposed to keep track of?”
Kelly replies that she is Snookie, not Sookie. Closeup on Stanley and pause a beat as Stanley slowly raises an eyebrow.
In the thread on the Modern Family Halloween episode, someone pointed out how television characters always make a much bigger deal of Halloween than do people in the real world. I thought that was also true of this episode, where the costumes and makeup seemed far too elaborate for office workers (Kevin’s fake beard as Michael Moore, for instance). But they look appropriate for costumes that were put together by professional Hollywood makeup artists and costumers. (And the slideshow on the website showed two or more elaborate costumes for each person.)
