The Office 5/17 Season Finale

The biggest laugh for me was when Dwight shut off the Natalie Merchant tune, slapped his name on the office door and dickishly intoned “who’s ready to work?!”

“Ryan, coffee.”
“I don’t do that anymore.”
“No, I mean for me.”

Get all the women together; no, not Meredith, she’s an alternate.

I assumed that they just got dazzled by Ryan’s fancy MBA and never mind his lack of experience. It wouldn’t be the first time somebody with a better degree got hired over people who were actually better qualified.

Regarding Ryan and his new job - has it occurred to nobody else that he might have been accepting Hunter’s job, not Jan’s?

-Joe

I immediately thought of that when I saw it and wondered “Oh, so he’s going to work in New York also. I wonder if it’s for ‘that’ job or a different one?”

Why would Hunter not be working there anymore?

He’s leaving to pursue music full-time?

I did wonder if Ryan was accepting a different job, but from the hirer’s tone it seemed like he was hiring a fellow administrator. When did Ryan travel down for the interview?

I can’t see this being a storyline, but to answer the question, Hunter’s in a band. Maybe he left DM after Jan, to concentrate on his music.

Using Michael’s “Worlds Greatest Boss” mug as a spittoon for his Big League Chew was a riot!

And then Andy washing it out afterwards was icing on the cake. “And look where I am now!”

Yeah, and when Andy seemed to be really excited about his new position, while he was washing out the spit-mug. Eew.

I missed what happened after Jim asked Pam out. Can someone give me a run down?

Ryan wouldn’t be taking Hunter’s job. I doubt he got an MBA just to go be somebody’s assistant.

I assume you saw Pam’s reaction, which was absolutely perfect (bravo Jenna Fischer).

After the commercial we saw David congratulating someone over the phone for getting the corporate job. That person was revealed to be Ryan. After he hung up the phone, Kelly asked who it was. He told her something to the effect of, “No one. Oh, and we’re through.” That’s it until September.

What was the gold foil thing on the note Pam gave Jim?

He seemed pretty lovingly devoted to Jan. Maybe he quit out of loyalty.

The gold medal from their office olympics. It’s been so long, I can’t even tell you if it was Pam’s or Jim’s. I’m guessing Pam’s.

-Joe

I think that was one of the medals from the office olympics episode.

Pam is doing a talking head. Jim comes through the door and says, “Are you free for dinner tonight?”
Pam immediately says, “Yes.”
Jim says, “Great, it’s a date then,” and leaves.
Pam smiles, with a gobsmacked expression for a second and then tirns back to the interviewer and says “what was the question?”
::Commercial break:::
We see the corporate guy (whose name I don’t remember) talking on the phone and congratulating smebody on getting the job. We then see that it’s Ryan on the other end of the phone. He’s happy and hangs up. Kelly asks him “What’s going on.”
Ryan says “Nothing…we’re though.”
Kelly says, “WHAT!”

End scene and that’s it for the season.

The best part for me was Ryan’s split second look of pure, evil delight as he told Kelly they’re done. I must have rewound it like 3 times.

I think a lot of people got just a little too much pleasure out of that scene.

Us included.

I was on the computer when the episode played, so I had to seek confirmation elsewhere, but I snickered at the ever-so-brief cameo by Lorne Michaels in the episode.
