This is kind of like the Ginger vs. Mary Anne for this TV generation, but a more difficult choice. (Everyone knows Mary Anne was the way to go.)
Pam had her shot and blew it. No question she’s cute, and has a good sense of humor, but Karen … she’s so exotic, it makes me wonder if her dad was a GI. Karen also plays video games, and by all accounts, can hold her own.
Karen. You know she’s gotta be freakier than Pam. Pam’s one of those repressed people who, when you tear away her outer shell, she’s repressed on the inside too.
I don’t know. I think Jim and Pam have great chemistry. They remind me of high school sweethearts, cute and all but not necessarily a relationship that should turn into marriage. Not that I can’t see them getting married and having kids, a lot of people do in their situation. But you wonder if in 10, 20 years later, Jim wouldn’t wake up one day and realize that he’s bored. At the end of the day, Pam is really nice and she’s pretty, but she doesn’t have a whole lot of depth.
Karen has a lot more going for her, IMO, and a lot more to sustain a relationship with. I don’t see her letting anyone walk all over her like Pam let Ray do all those years. Personally I find dignity and self esteem essential traits in a mate. She challenges Jim and that’s a good thing.
I think Pam and Toby ought to get together, after Jim and Pam sleep together and realize that it was better in their imagination than in reality.
And, yes, I realize they are fictional characters.
You mean her character, right? 'Cos in real life, her mother is Peggy Lipton & her dad is Quincy Jones. (I tell this to Mr. singular every week, and every next week he forgets, so I can understand if you knew this and forgot).
And I’d take her over Pam, simply because Pam broke his heart, and she’s still stringing Roy along. She hasn’t made up her own mind, and Karen undeniably has. I think it’l be better for Jim, and they’ll all settle into a good friendship eventually. Remember that look of joy on Jim’s face when Pam told him she’s won an art contest? That was a “wow, what a great thing for my friend!” smile, and a beautifully sincere one. Yeah, I’ll vote for Jim and Karen.
I’m voting for Pam. I think a lot of you are forgetting that she and Roy were together for a long time…she had to be doing something great in bed if Roy is having this much difficulty giving her up. And do we really know that Karen would be wild and crazy in the sack? So far (unless I’ve missed something in the episodes in the past few weeks) it doesn’t seem like she and Jim are clawing each others clothes off every night after work, and they’ve been dating for quite a while.
And who’s to say that Jim needs or wants someone who is wild and crazy in bed? Maybe he needs someone who is loving and caring and would put making him happy every day at the top of her to-do list. Someone who would support and admire him and someone who he could support and admire. Those who think Pam is a bit of a doormat need to realize that she’s been with Roy since high school…he has the potential for violence, and she has learned to hide those parts of her personality that get him angry. But it took great courage to call off her wedding, especially when she did it not to run to Jim’s arms, but to give herself time to grow. And yes, even though we now know her artwork isn’t going to be her claim to fame, at least she’s taking the risk. She’s a good caretaker, and I think at times Jim needs that…he’s not exactly a ball of fire, ya know!
When Michael met her for the first time he said “wow, you’re so exotic looking. Was your dad a GI?”
I’d take Pam. I think Karen could be really sexy, but I get the sense she has some intimacy issues. Pam seems maybe not all that naturally adventurous but willing to try, and explore.
I feel like I’m supposed to be rooting for Pam, but they just haven’t given me any reason to not like Karen. She’s smart, she’s funny, and she has confidence and a general togetherness that Pam is only starting to get glimpses of.
If Jim and Karen came to a natural end of some sort, I’d love to see him get together with Pam. But I’d hate to see him dump Karen for Pam.
