I dont know if anyone else noticed but if you watch closely as Duncan types on the keyboard he is actually typing 4 8 15 16 23 42 with a space bar in between each followed by “execute”
DOH!!! :smack:
Strike Duncan in above post to read desmond… :wally
I kept asking this last season and I’ll ask again:
Where did Rose go?
About that “Execute” key…
It seems that the computer may be a Wang. (Yes, there was once a computer manufacturer known as Wang.) Wang introduced a personal computer in 1983 which included an Execute key which was used for selecting items from a menu.
I haven’t been able to find a picture but did find this description…
(from http://www.atarimagazines.com/creative/v10n5/14_The_Wang_Professional_Com.php )
So should we change the question to “What does Desmond’s Wang do?” or “What is Desmond’s Wang good for?”
“To what use does Desmond put his Wang?”
“What mysterious powers, possibly virus-related, are contained in Desmond’s Wang?”
I’ll stop now.
Did Desmond ever allow his now-absent bunkmate to handle his Wang?
OK, seriously, I have to go to work now.
Just a quick note to lete everyone know that I’ll be back over the weekend to sort things out.
Peace, Dawg.
My hopothesis is (a) they had plenty of scenes to shoot with hot, sexy young actors, and having a woman in her later years on screen wasn’t helping any, and (b) if she had been around, eventually somebody would’ve had to call her on her belief that her husband isn’t dead, and that would blow the whole surprise of this season, which is that the back half of the plane soft-landed on the other side of the island.
Either that or the TKM got her, and nobody noticed.
Whose shoes are those?
here is a photo pf the Wang 2200… you cannot quite make out the words on the keys though…

Cool, but DesmonD’s keyboard didn’t look anything like that. Looked like and AppleIIe with a hacked on ‘Execute’ key.
Tree Krush-groove Monster?
In-show answer - She’s around with the rest of the people from the beach somewhere
Real-world answer - The actress got another part elsewhere (play, I think) and was busy with it. She will be back this season.
What else can Desmond’s mirrors see? He looked to be adjusting them, so clearly they can see in other directions. Where else, and what does he need to keep an eye on besides the hatch?
Ok, here’s my question, which I haven’t seen mentioned. In the flashbacks, why is everybody getting hit by the same car?
Screenshots:
Michael (episode 1.14)
Locke (episode 1.19)
Kate (episode 1.22)
The Locke screenshot isn’t so good, but watching that scene it’s pretty clear that it’s the same car.
I can think of two reasons:
- It’s Desmond messing with everybody
- It’s ABC’s only stunt car
I tried to post earlier, but the hamster ate my post.
Anyway, I don’t think this one should be marked as “answered.” While, I agree that it is obviously the reason, I think we l have engaged in assumption.
With a show like this, that is dangerous precedent.
I thought so too, so I checked, frame by frame. It sure looks like he’s typing some of those numbers. But the angle makes it speculation and we don’t see him type with 19 key strokes, maybe only half.
So it might be that, and I bet it is, but there is no certainty.
That is the same car, isn’t it? Weird. So little is coincidental in this show, but maybe it’s just an in-joke.
Since “QUARANTINE” is written on the **inside **of the hatch cover, should we assume that the island is under quarantine and the bunker inside of the hatch is safe?
I’m not sure why this is so mysterious. Though I don’t recall clearly, I seem to remember that ‘Execute’ was used as the equivelent of ‘Return’ or ‘Enter’ before things were standardized…especially on early DoD computers (again, from memory here). It just means basically execute the commands on the computer…same as hitting Return, though if its an early computer everything is CLI of course so there are probably a whole series of subroutines being kicked off. My guess is the computer merely runs the surveillance system for the island (or something similar).
