Scott, you have no idea what has or has not been proven true in any given discussion.
Calling you a one-trick pony is an insult to horses. Is that better?
Because you are only half a horse. Not the front half, either.
:shrugs:
Being Pitted by rjung is like being flashed by a eunuch. The honor is hardly worth the effort of discerning what it is supposed to be about.
Regards,
Shodan
I’m not sure where the Conservatives are getting this idea that they are somehow this oppressed minority. Is this one of those things that you just say over and over again so that sooner or later it becomes something “everybody knows”?
Just as an example: there are Conservative posters here that, while we disagree on some pretty fundamental issues, I am able to engage in more or less reasonable discussions with. There are Conservative posters that, when I see their name, I do not automatically assume that I am about to be treated to regurgitated talking points. Mr. Moto, sadly, is neither.
We’ve told you a million times that you don’t know hyperbole from a bucket of shit, but you just keep dipping into that bucket.
Shodan, This brings up a pretty interesting point, actually. From a “folks on the other side of the isle” perspective, I am wondering if there is an example that you can point out where you do not discard the message because you don’t believe in the messenger.
My impression is that, as a group, Conservative folks tend to stick by their own first and worry about the facts of the situation next.
I am more than willing to be shown that this is my blinders and selective perception at work, but it seems to me that there are numerous examples of Liberal posters distancing themselves from others that share their views (Reeder and Scott Plain come immediately to mind) but I can not for the life of me think of a case where a conservative poster has been taken to task by one of his own. Thoughts?
lekatt fits both of those criteria as well.
Yeah, saying I have no idea is really going to convince me I should stop me making claims.
Let me see if I can see a few posts from rjung, via the search feature, and see if the claims he makes are true.
Did Karl Rove out the CIA Agent?
Almost certainly.
Is Iraq a distater area?
yes.
Fox News Channel is not biased?
No, it is defiantly biased.
Scott Plaid: Look, friend, I am not sure if you have noticed or not but you tend to have this ability to completely derail any conversation that may be happening around you. My suggestion is that you shut your pie hole and read for a while. Once you have that down, perhaps you should contact a Mod and see about changing your name and wiping out your posting history. Sort of a fresh start. A witless protection program, if you will.
You really are not adding to anything.
The longest pitting in history evidently had no effect, a thread that would no doubt still be going except for a mod mercy killing.
I agree with this as a general statement. However:
Actually, while I agree it is rare, I think that this is a case of John pointing out flaws in the arguments of other conservatives.
I’ll agree with the conservatives in this thread this much: rjung, dude, you’re not the best guy to start this thread. No offense, but there’s a beam in your eye, and I ain’t talking lasers.
I’ll also agree with some conservatives this much: Mr. Moto’s posts are, like december’s, very well-written, eloquent, and polite.
They are not, however, honest. At best, they’re like Bricker suggests: Moto is getting down with the pigs in the pigpen.
However, there’s no need to get down with the pigs. When reeder or someone posts something about how Bush’s daughters are getting drunk and how that shows what a terrible dad W is, call their bullshit and be done with it. When it transpires that a Democratic New England governor is accepting bribes in the form of free construction on his summer home, trumpet it loud from the rooftops. When Dan Rather makes a news scoop based on trumped-up documents, sing it loud and clear. In all cases, you’ll have my full agreement.
But, as Bricker points out, the Air America thread was just lame. I’ll go further, and say that the funeral thread was both hypocritical and despicable. Had he simply left out the last paragraph of it, it would have been neither, and he would have had my hesitant agreement*. But he took it too far, turned it into a thread about Bush, and committed a sin uncomfortably similar to the one committed by the Lieutenant Governor.
Daniel
- My hesitation is that we have conflicting reports of the event; however, it appears to me that the Lt Gov acted shamefully.
I’ve seen far more irratating posters then Mr. Moto.
Actually, I agreed early in the thread that I should be more clear, and that I needed to work on my grammar. Problem is, I continued to defend past statements. People didn’t like that. Big deal. Since then, I have listened a lot more in GD and stated using capital letters in words like “Bush”, and "Christ. Besides which, calling it a mercy killing is hardly accurate. Sure, you closed down the thread, but I was suffering no real ill effects.
You’re joking, right?
Are you kidding? Our esteemed OP is the king of the driveby, contentless post in GD. I don’t know anyone on this board who is worse. The only thing I can say in support of rjung in GD is that he’s not as bad as reeder. But it’s looking more and more like **reeder **might not be with us that much longer…
As for the topic of this thread:
Mr Moto does generally strat with the assumption that Republicans are OK and Democrats are not. But, he almost always has some facts to back up his opintions, even if the facts might be filtered thru his poliitical bias. On a board so filled with “Bush is evil” vitriol, Mr. Moto’s positions seem pretty reasonable.
That is worth talking about as well. Now that we are past the last election, isn’t it really a small handful of dedicated hacks doing this? That is my impression, though I suppose that I may have gotten better at ignoring crap.
Well, yes and no. There are certainly stupider, ruder, more meanspirited conservatives than Moto, no doubt–and stupider, ruder, more meanspirited liberals than Moto, no doubt.
Part of the problem, I think is precisely that he is eloquent and polite. It suckers me all too often: I go into one of his threads thinking I’m going to get a meaty debate in which I’ll learn something and have a good exchange of ideas. After all, the OP sure looks reasonable on its surface, doesn’t it?
And then it turns out to be a load of hot gas, and I’m irritated that I’ve wasted my time. If I had more self-control, I’d just pass by his threads; but I keep getting suckered in.
So in that respect, I find many of his OPs to be extra-double-helping annoying.
To be fair, he also has a fair number of interesting posts; and when he’s interesting, he’s great. The politeness and eloquence really pay off then.
I just wish he’d cool it with the puerile petty partisan poopery.
Daniel
Whoops. I don’t know anyone worse in terms of contentless drivebys in GD. Reeder is defintely the king of the contentless thread OP, but at least he stays out of GD most of the time, limitting his pointless threads to the Pit.
Rationality ain’t graded on a curve, John.
