I had my first good sleep in a long time last night. Went back at 8:30, watched a little TV, and was unconscious right after I turned it off. I didn’t hear **FCD **come back, and tho I woke a couple of times, I fell right back to sleep. About 6:15, I decided to get up. So I’ve been fed (as has Higgs) and I’m caffeinating. I loaded and ran the dishwasher, and it just finished. We’ll leave for Mom’s around 10.
My back is killing me - all the bending to plant the ground cover yesterday. Breakfast featured a side of tylenol. I’m waiting for it to kick in. To quote Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon - I’m getting too old for this shit!! I like messing about in my garden, but the bending is killer. Oh well… That’s part of why I’m going to work 4-day weeks - I can spread the painful chores over a 3-day weekend. Theoretically…
I got an email from my first bf - he lives in Arizona and he was apparently really bored and lonely. He’s thrice-divorced, once widowed, and living alone in the middle of nowhere. He’s retired and he only sees his current girlfriend every other weekend - he said he’s become that old guy who talks to cashiers in the store… I suggested volunteer opportunities, but I don’t expect him to look for any. His life - whatever.
Meanwhile, the sun is coming up, but there are scattered clouds. Weather guys say 20% chance of rain - we shall see. But I will set up the sprinkler on my newly-planted ground cover. In fact, I’ll do that now.
FCM, glad you got a solid sleep. Maybe it was the Ether Bunny…
Sari, you might have some type of low-grade infection sapping your strength (I am not a doctor but I will be staying in a Holiday Inn Express later this week). Keeps up, maybe see a doctor.
Up at 0630 and just killing time until I hit that most appropriate of Easter dining…Olive Garden (hey, it’s on my schedule). May all of you have a happy one.
I did pretty well for sleep last night too. I slept from 10 pm to 5:30 am.
We are going to the closer Baha’i service, so I have about an hour to kill.
Then come home and he has one homework assignment due today, then onto finishing my taxes and starting his taxes - I feel your pain Baker.
I need to deposit the check from my mother - and that will go straight towards the tax bill.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Needless to say I am up, caffeinated, purtified, and brekkied, so no YAWN. ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 84 and N.O.S. for the day. I went to the Vigil of Easter at good ol’ St. Mark’s this mornin’ and had brekkie with 'em afterwards. Mom should be discharged to come home around eleven, so I’m at her house and sis is at the Hospice place. We figure it best that one is there and one is here. The bros will be around a little later. I’d like for mom to get settled in before people descend upon her.
HAPPY EASTER!
Yes, I stole that from Sari. I am non-creative right now.
Happy Easter everyone. I have cooked and ate breakfast, changed the sheets on the bed, done two loads of laundry, unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher and have a ham in the oven. The bathrooms needs scrubbing and the floors need vacuuming and mopping. I will start the bathrooms here in a minute.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Watching the Bahrain GP, then going to Tir Na nOg for Easter brunch. Then it’s laundry and vacuuming. And hockey. Can’t forget the hockey.
Church stuff is done for me for the day and now its ham time. Dinner will be simple (ham and some flavored potatoes) and most of the day is chilling. And waiting to see what those Penguins do today. We really don’t care but its something to half pay attention to.
This week I was/am even worse ---- I’m doing doubles Monday and Friday. Time to considering adding that car to crush to my Diggerland XL!
When I was a kid I used to put tater chips in my sammichs, for the crunch. I don’t like my eggs to crunch, however. 'Cause eggshells hurt.
Made a garlic potato and egg scramble for brunch today. And to round out my culinary report, last night we made a home-made pizza, and tonight will be a poke loin roast.
I’m considering mowing the lawn today. I don’t really want to, but I may not get another window of opportunity for the next week to 10 days and this time of year our grass is overly enthusiastic. Nothing else on the schedule really. Somebody has been asking repeatedly for me to make some more Camping Blend/Pet Bar soap*, so I might do that.
Or I could go out and put up some more lights in the garage. Decisions, decisions.
Do you ever think that someday cultural anthropologists will dig up our innerwebz musings and decide we were a particularly boring bunch?
Citronella, cedarwood and lemongrass essential oils. It’s supposed to repel fleas and ticks. I don’t know about that, but it works (mostly) on mosquitoes. I’ve tested that.
nettie, my butt was dragging last week too, mostly because of the trees being fabulous. Anytime they are especially gorgeous, they mess me up.
Moooom, not having the back to be standing on my head to garden is one of several reasons I do patio gardening. Next year, I even plan to put my pots on raised platforms and use an [del]old fart[/del] garden roller stool to tend to them.
We used to put chips (specifically Seyfert’s rippled) on our baloney sandwiches when I was a kid.
We had our spring picnic today at Two Rivers Park. There were about 75 of us plus a half dozen dogs. Eggs were hidden and a craft table was set up for the kids, there was a potluck, disc golf, a couple of board games and some picking and grinning for the grown ups and a good time was had by all.
Home from Mom’s. Too much food was ingested, per usual. The drive each way wasn’t too bad, tho we we did get caught in a slowdown on the BW Parkway just north of the DC beltway.
Once we got back, I shed my party duds and donned robe and slippers. No supper for us, but I may get some ice water. Or not. Too many decisions…
Back when I was doing antiques and classics, I salvaged a few for parts and hacked/torched the remains. But the most fun was ages back. A cousin got a Caddy that was a serious POS. It broke down more often then it ran; literally. It once broke down and then broke twice more before it could be restarted after getting repaired. So he did what a lot of people in my clan would do ---- filled it with gas, jellied gas, propane tanks, and various other things that could go boom, dragged it out 300 yards from the farmhouse, and had us all take pot-shots at it (and a couple detonators) with an assortment of tracers and stuff until it went away.
Even now like 50 years later, I get a warm fuzzy picture in my brain remembering all of it.
And I’m not totally sure but that particular corner of that particular field may still be barren.
But back to: DIGGERLAND!!!
I went to Tir Na nOg for brunch, and stayed for six hours. To be fair the one session guy was doing acoustic Hendricks. And I was told to learn an instument. I may have to hire Midget as a coach.
Ruble, I get warm fuzzy feelings just reading that.
Mom has been fidgety but now has settled down and sleepin’. She tries, I think, to get up but an alarm goes off if there’s too much movement on the bed. She ate some broth and Jell-O, and drank some Diet Coke so we’re callin’ that a win.
