The Pony Express MMP

I start with a jar of store bought spaghetti sauce, Swampy. What is your method? Succotash aside, you are a good chef.

Work was normal. Well THAT was unexpected! Dinner was srevotfel and quite good on a cold evening.

Still hanging in. PT tried getting me out of bed this afternoon. Fail. Next attempt tomorrow.

Well hockey kinda sucked. But it’s almost the weekend.

Still awake. I am making myself step away from the Internets.

Time for some Bailey’s and some ice cream. Hopefully, after that, sleep.

Happy Veteran’s Day everyone.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 39 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 79 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. I wonder if we’ll see any of the smoke drift down from the fires in the Chattahoochee National Forest in north Jawja. ICK!

In a while I shall clean collard greens and put 'em on to cook for tomorrow. I like to cook 'em and let ‘em mellow overnight. They taste so much better that way. I shall open da cave windows later this mornin’ as well. When I do that, I’ll let the oven self clean itself cause it needs to but puts out some heat so open windows will help with that.

flytrap I start with jarred sauce as well. I add onions, garlic, bell peppers, chopped canned 'maters, tomato paste, and if more liquid is needed I use veggie broth. Since I make it as a meat sauce, browned ground beast is added as well.

Happy Veteran’s Day and thank you to all that serve or have served.

OK, now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants sustenance. Then, I suppose I should make myself presentable and get busy on stuff.

Happy Firday Y’all!

I went to bed a little after 9 and was asleep by about 9:30 or so. Woke at 3. Tossed and turned, unable to *not *think about the upcoming administration till I finally dozed again probably around 5. That was followed by a mega-bizarro dream involving the last place I worked pre-retirment, a coworker there telling me the place to make the big money is the garage that services our cars, and ending up with **FCD **in a coat and tie going to talk to someone about going to Vietnam. Oh, and Higgs was there. On that disturbing note I got up, brushed my teeth, and tended to the puppeh.

I’m caffeinating, waiting for my sweetie to decide to get up. The turkey bird is on the counter, awaiting smokage. It’s in the 30s right now, but we’re promised low 60s today, so a good day to attack leaves for a while as the bird smokes.

Happy Veterans Day and Happy Firday!!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Alex Catt hornked on my bed at 0400. She’s now on The List.

Blurf. They fixed my diet listing to normal. So I ordered coffee. I took one sip and sent it away. The food is tasty but the coffee sucks

How long will you be eating hospital food? :dubious:

I started shopping for Thanksgiving yesterday. Wegmans, which is the greatest supermarket ever! had turkeys on sale for 39 cents a pound, with shopper’s club card and $25 purchase. I got a turkey for $4.33! Said bird is now waiting in the freezer.

I’m waiting for breffest at Denny’s, which is having its annual Veterans Day special. I don’t expect much because this location is not well managed at all, plus it’s Veterans Day, so it’s even busier than usual. But it’s free, so I’m not going to complain. Airman and the sprog and I are going to dinner later today, as well.

It’s not a good day for me, pain-wise, which is going to suck because the sprog is carrying the Navy flag at his school’s Veterans Day program because his mom is the only Navy vet in the class. Part of the ceremony is that vets can march into the auditorium with their service branch. Aside from the clunking of the boot, it’s going to hurt like hell. I’ll have to see how I feel then.

This day has begun stinktacularly! We went to the cafe for breakfast, and for a second time in a row, we were quite unhappy. It was especially busy because of the Vet-Day parade in the square, but it still shouldn’t have taken 40 minutes to get our pancakes and another 20 minutes in line to pay. Plus my sweet N.O.T. pancakes were awful!! Way too much clove (I think) so I couldn’t even finish half the serving. We’re taking a break from that place for a while.

My smoker is set up and pre-heating. The turkey-bird is on the counter, oiled and seasoned, waiting for the smoker to come up to temp. We’ll use hickory chips. Unfortunately, it’ll take about 8 hours to smoke, which gets us well after dark before it’s done. Had the cafe been a bit better organized, it would be smoking already.

**FCD **has filled the mulcher/vac and mower for me, so after the bird is in the smoker, I’ll start mulching in the back yard. We’ll see how things go from there.

Not the relaxing day I was hoping for…

You would be surprised. Hospital food has gotten much better over the years - its up to about “4th rate diner”/2nd rate cafeteria" levels. Hospital coffee, on the other hand, much worse.

Collard greens have been cleaned and cooked. Go me! When they are cooled down enough they shall go in da fridge to hang out and chill until tomorrow. Some of them may ummm… accidentally fall into a bowl and get eaten for N.O.L.

The bird is smoking. **FCD **has taken the trash and recycling to the convenience center - I didn’t know they’d be open today. I’ve loaded the dishwasher and wiped down the counters. After I put the next bit of hickory into the smoker, it’s mulch/vac time! WOOHOO!!

N.O.L. has been ingested. I done good with the greens! They’ll be even better tomorrow. Nappage is now bein’ considered cause, well, why not.

The back yard is more-or-less de-leafed. Smokeage continues. FCD’s new radio/GPS just arrived, so he’s about to head to the garage to do car stuff. I need to strip down and get the leaf bits out of my unders.

Good times!!

Up, caffeinating, and considering the day. DH returns from his latest work trip today.

Boy sunbeam has a friend coming over for a playdate. The house still looks like we just moved in (I just don’t get much done at a time these days), but I have officially decided that I do not care. They will play video games and hopefully be happy as two clams at high tide.

Girl sunbeam (sunbeamette?) is still sleeping. I have warned of the coming incursion. I plan to wake her in time to get fully girded before it starts.

Other than that, we shall see. Head permitting I may do some laundry and try and unpack a wee bit more. I feel like the ant moving the rubber tree. I’ll get there, but it might take awhile!

So, what is this bird smoking and is it legal in Merryland?

swampy, I don’t know what it is about greens (and beans, some to think about it), but they’re always better the second day.

It looks like I’ll be here later than usual. A project is expected to land on my desk sometime this afternoon, so I have to be here to [del]triage[/del] get things started.

Should be a leisurely weekend. I’ll go up to my SIL’s tomorrow to help celebrate my nephew’s 34th birthday. It was actually last Friday, but we’re celebrating when we all can get together.

Seeing as it’s apparently “ask Swampy for cooking tips” day, could you tell me what you do with collards? I got all curious 'cos they get mentioned so much here, but they’re unheard of in the UK, so I managed to track some seeds of a variety from Georgia down (can’t remember if I shared that Epic Quest on here), and grew some.

Started them off a little late for this year, but I should have a few bunches at least, so I’d like to treat them in the manner to which they are accustomed, and cook 'em proper like.

Now we have a full house of people who actually wash up, and even clean stuff, it’s possible to use the kitchen properly again without risking food poisoning every time I make toast, so I’m cooking way more (also working at a cafe where they actually cook is probably helping). Made Christmas cake yesterday.
