The Pony Express MMP

Aerobic bacteria.

Nuts make sure they are cleaned, a good rinse in lukewarm water should do it, the worst part is tearin’ the dang things up into edible pieces. Collard green leaves are huge! As to cookin’ 'em once again The Mumper Recipe Blog to the rescue!

They are getting me cleared for rehab. Likely I will be transferred Monday

Thanks, I had lost that link (when my former housemate attempted to ‘fix’ my old laptop and broked it) but are there recipes without the ham? I’m a herbivore…

My collard leaves ain’t all that big. Hope they still taste right. The guy I got 'em off is a transplanted American, so they should do!

So the sprog did a good job carrying the Navy flag. And I talked to his teacher afterwards, and she said the sprog got the second-highest grade on his math quiz. He got a 90. I haz a serious proud.

A lost weekend.
Poor kid!

Rosie, glad to hear it’s no surgery. I’ve been worried about you.

After a long week of election stuff the assignment that put me over the edge was Thursday Night Football. A sister station from Cleveland needed someone to provide live shots from the field before the game, sideline video during the game, and post game interviews. After it was all over I had to feed all of my materiel to Cleveland.

I was effectively done at 4am, asleep at 5am. I did not make my 11am in time today.

Which was a good thing because my kid’s mom (ex #1) contacted me around 11 this morning to tell me my daughter was in the hospital with a possible MRSA infection. I was gearing up for the drive to the hospital in Pennsylvania when word came that it wasn’t MRSA but that she will be kept overnight for observation and to make sure the infection is receding. So I am going to hang at home as I am still so tired that a 3 hour drive would be unwise.

What a fucking week.

Aw, man, Tugig, that’s awful. Hope your daughter is OK. Glad you don’t have to make the drive - we don’t need you in the hospital also.

**FCD **has his car torn apart - he’s installing the new radio - he thinks he’s about halfway done. The turkey needs at least another 90 minutes, but I may bring it in at 6 and finish it in the oven - it’s plenty smoky, methinks.

I called my mom to ask a simple question and I wound up connecting to her computer via TeamViewer to fix up some problems she was having. That program is a lifesaver. Instead of talking her thru something, I can do it myself, and it’s so much easier since she got off satellite and on Verizon broadband.

And as we hit 5PM. the dark begins to encroach. Dammit.

Tugig - I hope your kiddo feels better soon. Glad they think they’ve got the infection under control. {{{hugs}}}

1 hour to go on playdate. So far we have: searched for power cables, discovered we are at different levels in the video game, gone outside to play, decided it was too cold, come back in, started a different game, decided to eat, debated what to eat, and now are eating while watching TV. They are not yet skilled enough to video game whilst eating. The kid offered to cook something (his dad is a chef) but maybe another time… They have exhausted me. I was hoping the running amok outside thing would stick. Alas.

Good luck to the kiddo, tugig.

Since it’s Veterans Day, the family and I are going to the local steak joint for dinner, after which I think some teevee and bed are in order.

I’m going to pay the sprog a few bucks to help me clean my trunk out tomorrow. I cleaned out the cabin; the trunk is still loaded with crap.

2gig, hope the kid gets feeling better, and you get a chance to catch up on your sleep.

<<<Rosie>>> get better soon.

Rockin’,Yeah for the kiddo. Math is hard…

Finished reading a book online I bought pre-publication (it is before editing and sometimes is missing bits of the story) and finally got my car washed. Paid for the “Manager’s Special”, which cost $26 and it took them about 45 minutes to get the car clean (it had been some time…).

Also paid my current bills, now have a week or so before the next batch (credit cards) come due.

Exciting stuff here, folks…

Turkey is done and cooling - we’ll slice it up in a bit. I cleaned the gucky, removable parts, and tomorrow I’ll do the ribs.

Gotta get something for supper - I’s hongree…

Thanks for the well wishes.

Got a nice phone call from her (she’s soon to turn 17); she’s feeling much better and can now open her eye (it was swelled shut). Much better spirits, and apparently the hospital has a good kitchen and she’s hungry. all good signs.

Was somebody jumping in the leaf piles? :dubious:
Went to Panera Bread for lunch. I think I had the (collective) Mumper FDA salt requirement in that one meal of chicken tortellini alfredo. It may have been decent if they didn’t oversalt it sooo much.
Jeez, I just looked it up, it’s got 1690mg of sodium or ½ of the FDA guideline of 3400mg.

I believe in was in the novel The Black Mountain that Nero Wolfe made tortellini, noodles and tomatoes reduced by cooking. Apparently they are ringed pasta.
I trust Rex Stout more with recipes than Wikipedia.

nuts, while not southern style, if you find a vegetarian recipe for canelli beans and kale (or any beans and greens recipe), collards will work as the greens.

I managed to get out around 2 this afternoon. Groceries are bought and I’m eating Thai takeout (spicy pork and shiitake mushrooms and Mama’s shrimp in a blanket).

Thanks to Moooom, rockin’, metal mouse, airman and any other Mumpers who served.

Nope. When I was driving the mulcher/vac around, at one point, I neglected to slide the sleeve from the collector over the end of the chute, so leaf bits were being blown thither and yon. Since it was just behind my seat, some of yon was down my back and into the gap at the back of my jeans. Next time, I’m wearing a sweatshirt that comes down past my waistband.

We went to the not-too-terrible Chinese place for supper. I just got veggie fried rice, and it was pretty good, altho a gigantic serving. Half of it came home with me for lunch tomorrow. Once home, I cut up and bagged the turkey - each breast was removed whole, as were the leg/thigh portions and the wings. All are vacu-bagged and in the fridge. Ribs tomorrow, chillage tonight. And somewhere along the line, I’ll cook down the carcass and make soup. There’s a fair bit of meat still clinging.

Just for the record, I never was in the military; I did work for the DoD for 35 years, but always as a civilian, not in uniform.

My dad did, however: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=291845364488911&set=pb.100009903494768.-2207520000.1478918363.&type=3&theater

TGIF

And three minutes shy of 30 hours so HR won’t be on my donkey Monday. All in all a good week.

So my shift went home early since she was sick, and I worked the enitre day by myself. And I almost had a run in with a minivan that thought it was legal to do a left on red. Into traffic. On the bright side, I picked up a sixpack of 6:45 To Raleigh. And I get to tailgate, watch hockey, and get to see my friend tomorrow.

REHAB IS FOR QUITTERS!:D:p;)
But glad you’re making progress.

{{{{2Gigkid and 2gig}}}}

Happy Veteran’s Day to all y’all who served!
