Happy Veteran’s Day and Thank You to all serving and have served. I work as a civilian for DoD and I know how much you have sacrificed.
Lazy day here. Slept a good bit. Had stone crabs for dinner. Read the entire internet.
Love my free days off irk which means we are CLOSED so I can truly relax.
I have to gather up shoes to take to irk for Operarion Flatfoot. We gather new or slightly used shoes and distribute them to a women’s shelter. I bet I have at least 20 pairs I can donate.
I am still not used to the rime change or the election results. I just can’t believe it is real.
Your time is counted in minutes?? Really? One place I worked, our time cards could take .1 hour, but where I am now, it’s all by the full hour. So if you take a 2-minute pee break, you have to clock out??
Up and about to shower. We’ll go to Cracker Barrel for breakfast, then **FCD **needs some wire ties at Lowe’s. I’ll deal with 5 hours of rib smokage. Maybe some clay time.
Meanwhile, it’s 36° in my back yard. Happy Saturday, indeed.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 47 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 73 and N.0.S. for the day. Nice! I shall be able to open up da cave windows later this mornin’. In other news the bakeage of ham ensues as I post. The rest of this evenin’s commestibles shall be cooked this afternoon. Guests arrive at five for cocktails and dindin is at six. With any luck everyone will be gone by eight p.m.
gigity glad your daughter is OK.
Rockin’ yay for the Sprog!
For anything I missed, yays, boos, hugs, smoochies, wedgies, noogies, trouts, chitlins, and how you doin’s all around as needed.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands to be fed. Then I suppose I should purtify and get on with the tasks at hand.
*Here’s your dinner. Eat up, then get out of here!!!
What version of Emily Post do you use for reference??
We had a nice breakfast and I’m about to fire up the smoker again and load the ribs. I may even have to start a fire in the basement to take the chill out of the air. We shall see…
Our time clock system is by the tenth of the hour or 6 minutes. I don’t punch a time clock. I just write down my coming and going time and send it to the boss every two weeks.
Hard to get going today. I have a ton of laundry to do including all my sheets and blankets. Lucky Louie puked on the bed last night. Bless his heart. He is not sick today so he must have just had a upset tummy.
Hubby is doing paper irk. I need to go to the grocery store. Gotta decide what shall be on the menu today. I am thinking collard greens and maybe a roasted chicken and other stuff.
Smoker is preheating and the ribs are rubbed and waiting to be loaded in. I think there are enough that I can cut some off for tonight’s supper before wrapping the rest to go to FL. All I’ll need are some sides, which is easy enough. There’s one decision I don’t need to make.
butters, when I moved, I took a 15"X15"X20" box of shoes to the DAV drop box. Most were dress or office shoes, but there were a couple of pair of hiking boots in there too. I know that they mostly go to their thrift shops, but that is still a good reuse of them.

metal mouse, the mention of your DOD service is where I likely got the idea that you were in the military. I like the pic of your dad. Among the multitudes in my family who served, I had a great uncle and four uncles who served in WWII. I’m putting together a display for our next family reunion of the military vets in the family from WWII to the present.
Once I finish surfing, I’ll do the dishes and head to Tar-jay to take advantage of the deal that will give me another $10 gift card. I’m not purchasing anything that I normally wouldn’t, just stocking up to take advantage of the deal. Today will likely be cleaning supplies, trash bags, copy paper, toiletries and paper goods. Then it’s off to see SIL for tea.
We don’t have to clock out to pee or for our required 10 minute break after 2 hours but ---- yeah, we’re to the minute. I got an official talking-to from HR last year for going 30:02 during a 30-cap week and got gigged 1 hour of UPT (unpaid time off) as a punishment. Next week the cap goes to 40 and the week after it gets raised to 60 until after New Years but they take those time limits that damn serious.
We also have a strict “5 & 5” limit – clock in more than 5 minutes before or after the start of shirt OR MORE THAN 5 AFTER THE END OF SHIFT and you get gigged and HR comes to visit. The start of shift I can understand but if you’re in the back of the building that 5 after the end of shift is called (literally - the time varies so the official end is when the manager yells out “Twilight go home”) that five minutes to get to the clock can be rough. I’m back into the Ambassador program so that gets waved for me – we’re expected to be around a couple extra minutes to help gather scanners and such. But yeah – The Jungle is big on minutes all around the board.
I’ve decided to make this a movie day (I either see movies in a bunch or go months without being in a theater), so today is “Doctor Strange” and “The Arrival”. If the mood lasts until tomorrow, maybe “The Magnificent 7” or “Hacksaw Ridge”.
The ribs are smoked, sealed, and refrigerated or freezing as necessary - 2 racks are going south, the other rack, divided in 2 packs, is in the freezer for us some day. The smoker is mostly clean - OK, de-gunkified. But the parts that touch food are scrubbed clean, so who cares about the walls?
**FCD **got his radio installed and finally got XM “Customer Service” to change the account from the truck to the car. Then we got a confirmation email that was wrong. If it was up to me, I’d never have satellite radio, but it’s not my choice alone, so… whatever.
Time to do some laundry so **FCD **can pack. He’ll be leaving in the wee dark of tomorrow. I didn’t do any claying today, but I will after he’s gone. Thus endeth our Saturday. Except for some chillage and TV.
I irked at a place & they moved a guy over from another location as our new boss. We wuz not on the clock but he wanted us to keep a log of everything we were doing so he could get a feel for it. After a week we had a staff meeting & he was looking over them when he turned to my underling & congratulated him for quitting smoking. Underling was all . New boss stated he didn’t see any time for smoke breaks so he must have quit since he didn’t log them. :smack: :dubious:
I walked outta there into my grandboss’s office & said, “This ain’t gonna work.”
The most interestin’ part about it was iffn you needed him after 3pm you had to go to his “alternate orifice” aka, the bar downstairs in the lobby. :smack:
That’s that Southern “Bless his heart” aka, arsehole & not the “Poor baby” one, right?
Is somebody in lurve?
What screensaver used that theme song? Flying Toasters?
Started out the day in many layers as I wuz up & out early to shoot a race. Stopped by the park on the way home since I had cameras & it was still early enough for good light. (The shot-in-the-park photo contest just ended so I’m getting shots for the next one before I forget about it.) End up getting some cool shots of Noah, the black lab frolicking in the creek. He was so happy to be jumping & splashing around!
Came home, took off the last of the heavy clothes & opened the winders. Then I heard the heater come on, so I closed the winders & put on the other sock (I don’t like the ankle brace against bare skin).
Now, monstrous punk’in la-sag in kneeing away in the oven. Made a double batch because, well I had all the stuff for it & needed to use it up somehow. Estimated at 4-5 lbs worth. Who wants some?
My apartment smells fabulous! While I was at SIL’s this afternoon, I cut some fresh rosemary to bring home. I did a small poke tenderloin roasted with garlic and rosemary, butternut squash and Yukon Golds and a broccoli salad to go with. It fragrenced the whole place within minutes of going into the oven.
Company has come and gone. I was happy in both situations. A good time was had by all. Dishes are washin’ away and all is well. I foresee retirin’ to the boudoir to watch teevee until sleep time in the very near future. We’s tahrd!
