Is Doug getting fired this episode since Dahlia’s getting a new job (granted there’s no way in hell she can maintain their new lifestyle on a dental assistant’s salary).
Dahlia is my favourite character. I don’t think she enjoyed dental hygiene so much as being out of the house. To her being a housewife must be just like being back in prison except in a nicer cell. What sorta of job was Hugh offering Dahlia? It looks like they’re setting him up to make a move on her. The Di Di marriage thing looks like it’ll be the source of some great comedy.
Tonight was good. I think this is getting better. STILL a ton of stuff to try and keep track of. I know I’m supposed to hate the pregnant chick, but she’s such a great character. Can’t imagine how she’s going to hide her knowledge of their whereabouts, nor can I figure out why they let her blackmail them into taking the brother. It was too easy for her to find them, and that should have them skipping town, not settling in and hunkering down with what is basically a witness.
I do like seeing the way they are with their kids - letting them be who they are, involving them in the family decisions (even if they’re bad decisions), and kicking them in the ass when they screw up. They’re not going to win Parents of the Year, but the kids are surprisingly well-adjusted and “normal.”
Somebody remind me who the pregnant blonde chick is. (Guess I need to rewatch the pilot.)
She’s a Traveler (er, probably obvious) who really set this in motion. Dale agreed to arrange a marriage between her brother (Ken) and DiDi, which led to Wayne’s fight with Dale.
Does anyone know the final song they played?
“The World Spins Madly On” by The Weepies.
I still don’t get why pregnant lady wants her brother to marry Didi.
There was a thing back in the pilot with the pregnant lady (Ginny?) talking to Dale’s old man in the bed, seeking his blessing on the Ken-DiDi union. She was explaining that the Dannegans have been wanting an alliance with the Malloys forever, for whatever reason.
Perhaps theres some code that says her subpar brother will have to be taken care of if he’s married into their family?
I think this is it exactly. She is sick and tired of taking care of her not-all-there kid brother, and with a baby on the way, really wants to get rid of him.
The previews for next week say something like the son-in-law always aprentices with the father-in-law.
Crap! Do they rerun the show later in the week?
Looks like FX is running a marathon of all the episodes so far this coming Friday night starting at 9pm.
Great, Thanks!
Plus I guessing the Malloys basically saying that Ken isn’t good enough for their daughter was a pretty big insult in their culture. What’s the stoner kid going to think of all this?
Perhaps he will give them some dope to plant on the brother.
Yeah, they do. My TiVo is constantly wanting to record it, since the episodes all have a “New” tag in the guide, and my season pass is set for new episodes.
Best line of the show: “You are in the shithead box right now.” I am so gonna steal it.
Well, I’m a bit late to the thread, but just wanted to share my surprise at the final scene. It was both a shock and confusing. Having such a crush on Shannon Woodward made me want to do something to stop it. So essentially, everyone in the family except Didi (and Sam, I suppose) has basically jeopordized their situation, Cael more so than anyone … and now Didi gets to be the fall girl for his fuckup. Her sense of betrayal was palpable. I have to wonder whether or not Wayne and Dahlia have a plan to spring her later on, because that was one awful blackmail they arranged with Ginny. What’s worse was they didn’t even tell Didi and just dropped it on her in the middle of dinner with her boyfriend. What the hell was with that? This is going to be one helluva wedge in her trust for her parents when she eventually comes back. And you know she will somewhow!
I really can’t wait to see Ginny get her come-uppance. She’s the most contemptible, self-righteous character on the show. At least Dale’s conflict with Wayne is a somewhat legitimate internal family feud. She’s just a putrid social climber who will do whatever it takes to marry into the Malloy family. As if she wasn’t enough of a crotch stain already, she’s also drinking late-term. Late trimester drinking manifests itself less with physical deformities as opposed to serious mental retardation as a result of fetal alcohol syndrome. The human brain develops all throughout pregnancy, not just in the beginning trimesters. The outer parts of the “mammalian brain” which control upper thought, emotion, memory, and a sense of morality are the last to develop. So, that kid ought to end up about as bright as dishwater. This might explain a lot about her brother Ken. Maybe she learned it from her mother.
I just know Wayne is gonna get back at her good over this blackmail deal. He has to.
Calm yourself, it’s a television show, not AA.
Gosh I’m loving this show. It is a bit confusing sometimes, but I’m sure things will be revealed. Unfortunately, the things we ponder the most will most likely be the cliffhanger in the finale.
FX has got some awesome shows. I loved Dirt and can hardly wait for Nip/Tuck to return. Anybody know if it comes after The Shield, or if Rescue Me is up next?
Ok… Can someone please explain who the father of preggo’s kid is? Did I miss it, or did they not say yet?
Who did Dale kick the snot out of for supporting Ginny, and Ginny ridicule afterwards?
