I claim that I posted before my second coffee. I messed that up.
The answer to this question can be found by looking at the opponents of teams who have played in four or more Super Bowls.
As of right now, there are 16 such teams. In looking at this list, I don’t believe any team has played all the teams from an entire division. But I might have overlooked something.
Bills have played 3 of the NFC East.
Broncos have also played 3 of the NFC East.
49ers have played 3 of the AFC West.
I substituted Commanders for Redskins on this list.
Patriots (11): Rams, Eagles, Falcons, Seahawks, Giants, Giants, Eagles, Panthers, Rams, Packers, Bears
Steelers (8): Packers, Cardinals, Seahawks, Cowboys, Rams, Cowboys, Cowboys, Vikings
Cowboys (8): Steelers, Bills, Bills, Steelers, Broncos, Steelers, Dolphins, Colts
Broncos (8): Panthers, Seahawks, Falcons, Packers, 49ers, Commanders, Giants, Cowboys
49ers (8): Chiefs, Chiefs, Ravens, Chargers, Broncos, Bengals, Dolphins, Bengals,
Chiefs (6): 49ers, Eagles, Buccaneers, 49ers, Vikings, Packers
Commanders (5): Bills, Broncos, Raiders, Dolphins, Dolphins
Packers (5): Steelers, Broncos, Patriots, Raiders, Chiefs
Dolphins (5):49ers, Commanders, Vikings, Commanders, Cowboys
Giants (5): Patriots, Patriots, Ravens, Bills, Broncos
Raiders (5): Buccaneers, Commanders, Eagles, Vikings, Packers
Rams (5): Bengals, Patriots, Patriots, Titans, Steelers
Bills (4): Cowboys, Cowboys, Commanders, Giants
Vikings (4): Raiders, Steelers, Dolphins, Chiefs
Colts (4): Saints, Bears, Cowboys, Jets
Eagles (4): Chiefs, Patriots, Patriots, Raiders
Narrator: “these did not go well for the AFC.”
In another ‘matchup’ category, this Sunday Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen will face each other for the fourth time in the postseason. Only four other sets of quarterbacks have faced each other at least four times in the playoffs:
Peyton Manning vs Tom Brady: 5 times (Manning won 3)
Joe Flacco vs Tom Brady: 4 times (tied at 2)
Ken Stabler vs Terry Bradshaw: 4 times (tied at 2)
Brett Favre vs Steve Young: 4 times (Favre won 3)
Mahomes has won the 3 previous meetings against Allen.
This must not count the Immaculate Reception game in 1972, which was started by Daryle Lamonica but he was relieved by Stabler who ran 30 yards for a TD to give the Raiders their brief lead.
I have no idea, as I was parroting something I read in the daily paper this morning.
Did not remember that from a guy with 93 net rushing yards in 15 years.
Yeah, the Snake soon had some knee operations but was pretty mobile when young. In college he rushed 265 times for 838 yards, 3.2 per carry but some of those were sacks (always classified as rushing plays by the NCAA).
That was Stabler’s only rushing attempt in the game. He was 6-12 passing for 57 yards. Lamonica was 6-18 for 45 yards.
Cue the sad trombone music:
Love that they hit him with the fine as he went out the door.
Now that The Packers (and to a lesser extent the Vikings and Lions) have been eliminated, I don’t have a team I want to win – this does give me one reason to pick the Commanders…

I just went down a little rabbit hole reading about Snyder. He refused to sell the team for less than $6 billion which was a major sticking point and he was being a dick about it. It eventually sold for $6.05 billion but with the fine taken off of the top. The intentionally made the fine $60 million so he got $5.99 billion net.
And for Super Bowl LIX - Outright Betting, right now it is:
Philadelphia Eagles +175
Kansas City Chiefs +210
Buffalo Bills +250
Washington Commanders +850

Me to my wife: “I’m going to listen to Tom Brady for a minute.”
Tom Brady: "[playoffs are] exciting, it’s all about the team - "
Me: “Okay, I’m done.”
My wife: “Thank you.”
I actively dislike football, but the Bills are my wife’s hometown team so we’ll be watching today’s playoff against KC.
Whoever made the decision to dip the Commanders’ game gloves into cooking oil probably should change their strategy.
A cavalcade of stupid plays from the Commanders today. Not even giving themselves a chance to be in this.
I think a better strategy would have been “let’s play like we did against the Lions,” instead of “let’s play like the Lions.”
LOL, I was thinking almost the same thing. ![]()
I was irritated on one play there during the last drive Washington had in the first half. They set up to snap the ball and one of the defenders rushed forward, shoved his hand into the center’s face, and poked his eye (before the ball was even snapped). That resulted in a five yard penalty.
I didn’t know grabbing a guy’s facemask and poking his eye when he’s defenseless (setting up to snap the ball) was only worth five yards.
