The Sap is Rising in the MMP!

Oof. Ate a bit too much salmon. But it was good!

It’s profoundly cold up here in upstate NY. Therm says 4. The furnace is fighting it, says it’s 70 inside, but my fingers and toes and nose are still cold. There’s just a pervasive leak of coldness coming from the walls and windows.

Dog Park Etiquette: Putting Newbies in Their Place by ‘Queen’ Echo

I hope that you are getting around better soon nellie.

That sounds horrible. Your thermostat is probably on an inside wall so isn’t affected as much by the cold radiation from all directions, I’m sure it’s much colder in other rooms. Do you have fingerless gloves? If not, you can get all crafty and cut the toes out of a pair of socks and then put a thumb slit in the side of each sock. Put those on your hands and you can still do things with your fingers.

I hope you warm up soon.

What a clever idea! I love it~wish I’d known about it all those winter months I had no furnace. It was ok near the space heaters but outside walls and windows could be chilly. I have a bushel basket of single socks, forever abandoned by their mates, I could have used one for a day (and night) and pitched it and started anew with another orphan sock the next day.

@JaneDoe42, you are one clever girl!

Back before cell phones, we were out four wheeling in our soft top Jeep without paying attention to the weather because we were young and immortal. We ended up on the wrong side of a flash flood and the temps started falling. Soft top Jeeps aren’t very well insulated and one space blanket doesn’t really do much when even the floor boards get cold. Our emergency bag included clean socks and unders for both of us. I put my socks over my socks and hubs socks got sacrificed while hubs was all tough and shit.

It was really cold.

As you can tell, we survived to tell about it.

nelliebly, with your back do you use a cane oe a walker? Sorry if you have mentioned it before. I hope it gets better.

Random thought here…I have been told on good authority that if one needs a cane, they should go to their local grocery store and ask for the silver one (or black depending on your mood) and they will show you a huge box full of lost canes. Pick one from the bottom and leave guilt free. People leave canes hanging on their cart handle all the time, but rarely come back looking for them.

Hubs bought my carbon fiber self defense cane with shark tooth gripping areas because he’s hubs. I’d rather be using one of those cheap, light collapsible canes people leave all over the place, but you know…

Your Jeep had a top? My CJ-2As didn’t.

So…yeah…it wasn’t a top. It was a loud, leaking drag chute. We used to stop at the base of the big mountain so we could take it down and save a few dollars in gas going up. We bought it new and the gas mileage was around 20 mph. Hubs fixed that right away, I think we were down to under 10 when it finally took that last roll.

Evening all. Managed to make the cellphone take a picture and call my brother, and he and my Sis-in-law managed to get me to text a little bit. But frankly I simply don’t call that many people and most everyone I would want to talk to I do here or on Facebook. So the phone’s charms are still occasional ones…

Went to swim at the gym, but all the lanes had been grabbed by people who are serious swimmers, so sat in the whirlpool for 15 minutes and the Sauna for 20 and called it a day. Dinner was meatloaf at the Metro Diner (delayed Sunday dinner).

Have read all but absorbed little, so catch all y’all tomorrow when perhaps my brain will not be overloaded with all these cell phone thoughts and I can concentrate on you folks…

Allie largely uses this when there is a closed door between her and the human she happens to want at that moment. If one is in bed and the other’s still up in the living room, this leads to what we call “yoyoing”.

The fud has been picked up. GG is staarrrving!!!

Hubs has already taken his hearing aids out and I’m planning on sleeping with ear plugs.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

They didn’t come with the military style top? I learned something new.

I supose a rubber mallet is out of the question?

it’s 17° in Southern Merrylande this morning. About 10 years ago, we replaced out old aluminum siding with insulated vinyl siding. But this house was built in 1975 and it was definitely not with energy efficiency in mind. But our bedroom walls don’t get quite as cold as they used to. Plus we replaced the crappy windows and storm windows with triple-pane vinyl windows, which also helped. Mostly, tho, the pellet stove is what keeps up warm.

I don’t like phone talking either, but I find texting is great. Not only can I read and/or send at my leisure, I have a record so I don’t have to remember what was discussed - I can check when I was supposed to meet or what I was supposed to bring. In fact, my mom is the only one I’ll talk to (listen to!!) at length on the phone.

FCD recommends a shovel - he thinks he’s funny.

As mentioned - its COLD!!! Luckily, by the time I get to the school to get Toby, the car will be nice and warm for him. And we don’t have to go anywhere today - we can veg indoors. My only non-babby plan is the makeage of bean soup.

Dream weirdness continues - last night, it was about Neil DeGrasse Tyson - no clue why he invaded my subconscious. At least I had a good sleep - close to 7 hours, I think. And so my day begins.

Happy Tuesday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 32 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 71 and N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is a doc appointment at nine-thirty this mornin’. I also get to see the vampire. Outside of that, laundry, sloth, napage, and general uselessness shall rule the day. Sup shall be cabbage 'n snausages and baked sweet N.O.T. Oh, and I shall hunt for some cheap chawklit whilst out and about.

Poor GG! I am sure he has wasted away to nuttin’ by now.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ amongst the public attire.Woe!

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Afternoon, mumpers! Well, the sap has changed its mind today and sunk back down again. It’s cold, wet, windy and grim out there. Since it was not an ideal morning for walking, I got the bus to the train today, it’s cheap enough to buy a daysaver ticket so I’ll get the bus home too. It’s only a mile or so, and takes half the time it would take for me to walk it. Plus my pooly but nearly healed toe will thank me for it.

Also be good to get home quicker tonight, we have to visit our Gettin’ Sto’, and 'im indoors has decreed that we shall go to the good pub with the Nepalese kitchen for dinner. Not sure if that is a sideways casting of aspersions on the quality of my chilli (we were having leftovers from Sunday tonight) but I like the Nepalese curries, so I am not taking offense.

Poor GG! If he’s anything like our Stripey, he has The Staaaaaarrrrrvvvvvveeeeeessssss! And will let you know about it at every opportunity.

Good morning everyone.

It’s 40 degrees and dampish outside. Temps will remain solidly in the 40-48 degree range through Thursday or Friday, I think. It will also be cloudy.

So, the trip over to Yakima on Sunday was quite nice. The sun was out the and the scenery through the pass was nice. We arrived there, drove through town a little bit, and then had linner (late lunch, early dinner). Checked in the hotel around 4:30 or 5:00 and stayed in my room the rest of the night. I was awake at 3:30 yesterday, showered and logged onto my computer by 5:00. At six I went downstairs and got some coffee and fruit. By 6:30, I logged off, packed up my stuff, and headed downstairs to check out. Had to stop at Wally-World on the way to the Yakima office to buy a headset because I forget mine at home and I had some meetings and calls that required my presence. Anyway, the installers didn’t arrive until 10:00 and we didn’t get out of the Yakima office until 4:30ish. I fueled up, and we headed back home. It was snowing in the pass, but the roads were fine and at one point we had to follow a plow who was putting some kind of melty stuff on the road for several miles. He finally pulled over and we got to go around him. Between then and home I dealt with dark highways, dumbasses that don’t turn their brights down when a vehicles approaches, torrential downpours, and surprisingly more people on those roads than I thought there would be for that time of evening. Got to Olympia, dropped of my co-worker, and then headed home. I didn’t get home until 8:00 last night.

I am tired, and really don’t feel like working, but I have much to do. Like contact UNICOR and my procurement people about a stupid swinging door that doesn’t even seem to go with the cubicle furniture and doesn’t even have a latching or locking mechanism. It’s stupid. Plus, I WILL have to go back one more time for pieces that still have not arrived. Jeebus. I think I’ll have five trips under my belt just for the installation process before this is over.

Nellie, I’m sorry your Dr. appointment isn’t sooner and that you’re still dealing with pain. I really do hope things settle down.

Polar’s books would be title “AWOOOOO-OOOO-OOO, it’s 4:09 and Dinner Time”, “That’s MY spot, AWOO-OOOOO-MOVE!”, and “How to be a Picky-Eater and Make your Humans Cook for You”.

Toby crashed about 15 minutes ago - we’ll see if he snoozes at least an hour before he wants his face fed. Meanwhile, I’m trying Drano on the kitchen sink drain - it’s been really slow of late. Dammit. I suspect grease and little food bits because someone won’t throw the solids in the trash before putting dishes in the sink.

Other than that, just another day in a frosty paradise. C’mon spring!!!
