"The Sarah Connor Chronicles" season 2 starts tonight (9/5)

I love this show. I really want to see where they’re going with the Shirley Manson T-1000. And I really think they’re going towards some weird John/Cameron hookup. I’ve thought this since last season, but I really think it now.

I knew that the liquid metalators were inevitable in this show, but I was really hoping they would stick with the more threatening mechanical ones for longer. I hate the liquid metalators.

There’s hordes of Terminators who are, apparently, working very hard to build Skynet. So, time loop.

You’ve got John Connor who was responsible for his own creation by sending Kyle Reese back in time so he could be conceived.

Obviously time is malleable to some extent. Which makes me wonder why Skynet (knowing since the '90s through its back-time terminators who could just leave a note) doesn’t make sure to just kill John while he’s IN THEIR CONCENTRATION CAMP!?!?

Right.

And am I the only one that thought the liquid metal special effect was not very well done, even for a TV show? Terminator 2’s effects looked better than this and that was a long time ago.

There was something just…bad about the effect where she morphed from urinal to Shirley Manson.

I’ll take “phrases Mahaloth never thought he’d type” for $1000, Alex.

not so sure about that. Derek’s exchange with Sarah -

“Did he see it all?”
“Everything”
“Damn”

seems really out of place. i assume that John would have already seen his fair share of deaths by then.

Apparently she is not creating her own identity. She is replacing a human who already existed and assumedly whom she offed. As we saw in T2, the shapeshifting terminator can do impersonations…

But the time frame was presumably very short and they both still had clothes on. Why would John or Sarah re-clothe the rapist?

I thought he just assumed Sarah killed the guy and was asking if John saw it all.

Good point. But why, if John killed the bad guy, would Derrick ask if he saw everything? What else would there be to see?

actually i didn’t even know there was a rape angle until this thread (i don’t buy it either), but something did happen or was edited out of the final cut for that exchange and also for her apology to John outside the bathroom.

I actually don’t think Shirley Manson is a T1000.

She is more like a T2000, this Terminator is working on a thought out long-term plan. That is totally unlike any previous Terminator programming. She is clearly a step beyond.

She’s a T-1001 from what I’ve read.

Eh - maybe he just saw his mother kill the thug, though. He’d never seen Sarah hill a human before - that’d be a hard thing to watch.

Would it really? After all the violence he’s seen in the events of T2? I mean, I know he forbade the T2 from killing anyone, but he did see dozens of people die, and helped his mom blow up a building, and break her out of an insane asylum, and all the stuff he must have seen in Central America, and the list goes on.

I don’t John would be hit all that hard by seeing his mom kill a badguy in self-defense. Hell, I don’t think he’d be all that broken up about doing it himself. There was something more that happened in that room. It may not have been full on rape, but something awful and humiliating to his mother that he was forced to witness.

Come on, that’s ridiculous.

The whole first season of The Sarah Connor Chronicles was summed up by Cameron early on: “I take orders from John Connor. Just not this John.”

The second season premiere was all about John growing up and starting to take charge. He is the savior of mankind dammit and even though he’s 16, you do not fuck with him. That was what the hair cutting, the rebooting of Cameron and the killing the thug who was about to rape his mom was all about.

Plus, if that guy had ever gotten his pants down in front of Sarah Connor, Badass ™, she would have snapped his neck before he even touched her.

The T-1001 is similar in design to the T-1000, except that it is programmed to make clever quips after killing someone even though there is no one to hear.
I thought the whole business with Conner and Cameron was pretty badass. It probably was a terminator mindfuck…and still…

Also, I think we’re supposed to assume she had overridden her programming by herself. She was still in ‘TERMINATE’ mode when she said she wasn’t there to kill him and after he handed her the gun.

Thats what I think. It’s all about the robot crossing against the light.

I thought it might have been towards charicterization, personally—wasn’t there a line earlier (from Sarah*?) that “machines don’t feel”? And the line the Shirleynator gives, for no logical reason, after offing the guy is noting that “he pissed her off, too.” So…spite.

*I sense a recurring theme, here…whenever Sarah Connor makes a self-assuring voiceover about some superior aspect Homo Sapiens has against machines, look out.

“Machines don’t innovate…they only build upon existing knowledge. A computer lacks human imagination, the ability to invent the truly outlandish…like releasing swarms of biomechanical rat-beetles small enough to fit inside your veins, and swim into your brain to eat your thoughts…and make it work.” :smack:

Now I’ve got a vision of two robots, who have Sarah bugged, sitting in little room, grinning at each other and furiously taking notes whenever she says anything like that. “Rat-beetles! That’ll be great!”
