Hello.

I’m curious about members here and who is noted for doing/being what.

And so, I made a bit of a survey to say what you think, and also to pay tribute and compliment members on being a certain way.
So here is a minor poll of sorts that gives you a chance to give out an award to another member here.

Just some items I wanted to mention.

No, this isn’t a “favorites” or “popularity” contest. It’s opinion, and if the mods think this is more suitable for IMHO and wish to move it, then so be it.

It’s a chance to give a cyber “pat on the back” to a fellow poster, to show they are appricated for being who they are and that we love em just that way. Granted two or three of the awards are negative in a way, it still gives people a chance to have fun and pass out awards to people who they think are most deserving.

Yes you can put down yourself for anyone, (or all of them if you like, that way nobody can read and whine about how they feel left out about not getting an award…if you are reading, and haven’t gotten one from anyone yet, then fill it out and put your name down!)
You can also have the same person for more then one. However I hope that on each one you have just one person, if you can help it. Only have two people for the same award if you cannot pick between the two.

Also, if this topic is a complete bomb, and drops to the bottom of the page with nary a post (or one or two that say “Man, you suck”) that’s fine too.

It’s just for the bored and just for fun.

In two weeks (if this is popular), I will come in here and total up the mentions and give the results of the winners.

Poster least like a militant, environmentalist, black female accused of running a prostitution/hash ring out of the basement of the local church. (Although that one did have some stiff competition).

I would suggest not having a dislike award. That could get ugly.

Besides, everyone knows that would be Coldfire. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d avoid gender specific awards, on account of some posters and/or their screen names being non-specific.

My first nomination would be a “Good Sport Award” to Giraffe, for the whole “Sandwich Incident”.

I believe this was done at least once before(quite a long time ago) and it did, in fact, get quite ugly.

What happens, unfortunately, is that human nature sets in. Those who get named are happy, those who do the naming are happy, but plenty of those who are not named get peeved about it and don’t mind saying so. Invariably someone will post saying the whole thing is a popularity contest and shouldn’t the SDMB be above that, or some such drivel.

This is why I said that if anyone is not thus far on a list as getting an award, by all means, they can put themselves.

I also have the last question being, “give an award to yourself”

They’re always popularity contests, even if people just put themselves on it - because then, other people will chime in with “Oh, I agree, White Lightning IS the coolest!” or something. It’s not that the thread has any kind of bad intentions, because I’m sure it doesn’t. But some people are incredibly insecure about themselves, and they project that here by complaining about these awards, no matter how well intentioned they are. (And I say that having posted a similar thread a while ago.)

Me? Serious? I’ll have you know that I came in 11th in a field of over 100 comedians in a citywide standup comedy competition in Los Angeles, sir!
