So, I decided just now that we need a SDMB drinking game, you know, for the various things (traditions, running gags, etc.) you can always see coming in a thread.

  1. Cite? (Take a shot)

  2. Whenever treadmills get mentioned in a discussion of airplanes (Take a shot)

  3. Hi Opal! (Take a shot)

  4. Whenever national anthems get brought up, and someone requests that the US get a new one (Take a shot)

Any others?

Eh, the national anthem thing only gets brought up every time the national anthem gets brought up (most recently, a thread inspired by Christina Aguilera’s rendition of the song).

Which reminds me…

Take a shot every time someone mentions Mr. Plinkett’s reviews during a Star Wars or Star Trek discussion. Take another shot if the thread gets derailed so the fanboys can talk about how awesome and funny Mr. Plinkett is. If that discussion gets derailed by yet another sidebar, this time arguing about the length or said reviews, switch out your shot glass for a Rum and Coke and take a sip for each post on the topic.

  4. “Let me see if I’ve got…” or “Do I have this…” followed by “…this straight” = shot
  5. If 2 and 4 are combined in the same sentence = triple shot
  6. IANA*, ISTR, WAG, or WRT = shot, maximum of two per thread
  7. Any “joke” that relies on deliberately misreading an unclear sentence for “humor” = shot
  8. If number 7 occurs more than three days after the unclear post = double shot
  9. Any “joke” where poster responds to statement of hatred for an item with example of item (eg: “I hate cutesy chat abbreviations” “ORLY?”) = shot, maximum of two per thread
