The SDMB "My NCAA Bracket's Already Shot to Hell" Club

The 1st round is half over. Once again proving that Jimmy the Greek I ain’t, here is my list of picks that went wrong (so far):

I had-
Texas over Nevada
Alabama over UW- Milwaukee
Penn over Boston College (upset special pick)
LSU over UAB (note to self: never pick against UAB)
Pitt over Pacific
UCLA over Texas Tech
Creighton over West Virginia
UTEP over Utah (was drinking when I got around to picking this region)

Anybody else sent a few bucks down the drain already?

Two hours in, I had already lost 2 Sweet Sixteen teams, Pitt and Alabama. So far, the rest of my losses I had going out in the next round anyway, so it didn’t hurt too much in the long run.

Ruining the Perfect Bracket were:
Nevada over Texas
UWM over Alabama
BC over Penn
Pacific over Pitt
Texas Tech over UCLA (although I don’t mind this so much)
W. Wa over Creighton (great game)
Utah over UTEP
Cincinnati over Iowa

8-8 isn’t bad, and I still have my Elite Eight intact, so there’s hope.

The Chicago regional is a disaster for me. I missed:

Nevada over Texas
Wisc. Milwaukee over Alabama
B.C. beating Penn
UAB over LSU killed me, since LSU was an Elite Eight team for me.

I also missed Cincy over Iowa and W. Va. over Creighton.

Florida nearly killed me for good. How do you blow a 20 point lead?

First, hire Billy Donavon as your coach…

Casey1505, did you crib off of my bracket? With one exception, we had the same (incorrect) picks. Wonder what the odds are of that?

Well, of the 20 games that have been played so far, I’ve missed six, half of which were upsets I picked that didn’t come in (and half of which were upsets that happened that I didn’t pick, obviously).

I missed the Alabama and LSU games. The other “upset” I didn’t pick was Iowa St. over Minnesota. The upsets I picked but missed were Creighton, UTEP and Iowa. All the games I’ve missed so far I’ve also had losing in the second round, so my Sweet 16 and Elite 8 are still all alive.

Upsets I’ve gotten right so far are No. 9 Nevada over No. 8 Texas and No. 10 N.C. State over No. 7 Charlotte.

Lousy, no-good Pitino wannabe…

And for the record: Matt Walsh, you and your goofy-ass hair still suck ass. And get rid of that dorky headband.

The good news: I’ve only lost one Sweet 16 pick.

The bad news: five of the remaining first-round games are matches I have slated as upsets.

The worse news: if Syracuse or Georgia Tech go anywhere significant, I’m focked.

I prefer to think of it as we made the same intelligent and informed picks, and everyone else just got lucky.

So did anyone else pick Vermont to beat Syracuse?

[sub]I’m 20-7, but still have three more upset games to go - and a Kansas game I hope goes against Bucknell - before I can rest easy for the night.[/sub]

That would be a NO. Luckily, I have them losing to Michigan State, so all is well.

I’m 20-7 as well, and I picked the favorites in the rest of tonight’s games. What’s more, all my Sweet 16 and Elite 8 teams are still alive. I’m tied for 10th place in a pool I’m in, but I’ve still got the highest “best score possible.”

4-18 from the field, 1/8 from 3 pt. range. Pride of Scranton my ass. Lost an Elite Eight team there when you clanked two key three pointers, buddy.

Funny how quickly we turn on our own.

I BURNING YOUR DOG!! Dammit, that totally screwed my Sweet 16.

I would like to take this opportunity to announce that my bracket is nearly perfect on ESPN’s Tournament Challenge. I missed two games in the first round. I had Niagra over Oklahoma and LSU beating UAB. Other than that all is good and I am in the 100th percentile nationally.

In 2001 I placed 50th out of several hundred thousand entries with 14 of 16 Sweet sixteen teams, 7 of the final 8, four of the Final Four and the correct winner. I got a sweatshirt.

If it makes you feel any better, I have GW in the Elite Eight and Vermont in the Sweet 16.

I hope that we catch a little MoJo in the rounds to come, my friend

And that (Kansas losing to Bucknell) was the sound of a million brackets going kerfluffle … or worse.

Can I officially join the club now?

[sub]A Kansas-Illinois final would have made an interesting storyline, at least…[/sub]

You were right the other day when you said Wisconsin wouldn’t beat Kansas, at least.

On my “real” bracket, I went 25-7 for the first round. Picked UAB over LSU and NC State over Charlotte. I had Syracuse losing to Duke and Kansas losing to UConn so those aren’t huge losses for me. Unfortunately, I had Pitt going to the Final Eight.

On my “upset” bracket (because our pool gives bonus points for picking the first round upsets), I went 21-11 and picked the Wisconsin-Milwaukee over Alabama upset and UAB over LSU. Even worse than in my real bracket, I had Pitt in the Final Four! :smack:
