If Spicer is fired, SNL needs to institute a policy in which Melissa McCarthy (or another woman, if she’s unavailable) plays any replacement.
Hell, I think SNL should consider having a woman play Trump.
Definitely Rosie.
Until today, I had no idea this was something I have always wanted to see.
Removing Alec Baldwin from that role would be a terrible disservice to the human race. Trump already hated Baldwin’s portrayal of him so that base is covered.
You can have women play everyone else though. Rosie O’Donnell as Steve Bannon is a great idea, even though her Steve Bannon will pale badly next to McCarthy’s Sean Spicer; McCarthy is approximately ten million times the actor O’Donnell is.
Alec’s Trump is hilarious, but I think having a woman play him would be more likely to irritate Trump – and his irritation has the potential to be even funnier than Alec as Trump.
I know that’s true, but I imagine it would also irritate Trump if, instead of telling jokes, they just had a cast member stand on the stage, read out the lies Trump told that week and carefully refute them with facts. I love SNL skewering Trump, but it’s a comedy sketch show and it survives by being funny before anything else. (If you don’t see O’Donnell play Steve Bannon, it will be because they let her try it in rehearsal and she wasn’t funny.) Just doing anything that maximizes the bother to Trump will kill the show, and then it won’t bother him at all.
True. But maybe just one sketch, with Rosie as Trump…

MLK niece feels that Aunt Coretta would have felt differently now.
From the article: “… Alveda King, an anti-abortion activist and Fox News contributor who voted for President Donald Trump, told Fox Business Network.”
Yeah. I’m sure she has her thumb on right on the pulse of the civil rights movement as represented by her uncle.
I hope they stay away from Rosie as Bannon. I think it would come across as partisan hackery. I’m trying to think of something comparable on the left. Best I can come up with: having Monica Lewinsky on one week last fall to play the part of Bill. Or Paula Jones on to play the part of Chelsea or Huma Abedin. Sure, everyone that hates the Clintons would’ve been like “YES! Excellent choice! This will TOTALLY get under her skin for sure!” But really, what would’ve been the point other than to needle?
Sure, Alec’s Trump is meant to poke fun (and I’m sure the “attention” Trump lavishes on SNL via Twitter is quite a motivator for Lorne), and McCarthy’s Spicer is as well. But Rosie as Bannon seems too gimmicky and just seems like a desperate attempt to irritate.
Rosie should play Melania.
One of my all-time favorite Doonesbury strips was about a press conference with Nixon’s press secretary Ron Ziegler. After delivering a typical goobledegook answer, Ziegler called on Time magazine’s correspondent Hugh Sidey, who said:
“Ron, sometimes I imagine you must get up in the morning, look in the mirror before you’ve shaven, and think to yourself, ‘Ron, you’re about to begin another day of evasion and deceit.’ Here’s my question, Ron: What do you do after you’ve come to such a realization?”
Ziegler’s response: “I shave.”
I’m not sure O’Donnell is quite analogous to those people - Trump’s weird feud with her seems to be something he just kind of made up on his own. Still, I agree it’s stunt casting, whereas Baldwin and McCarthy got the jobs because they’re highly skilled comedians; O’Donnell isn’t in their league.
The current Barron on SNL - Mikey Day in a Grim Reaper outfit - isn’t funny, so I can understand why they’d want to try something else, but really they should be looking for someone who can skewer Bannon with skill.
Bannon. Barron is the son.
As the Washington Post put it, Lil Sean went all Melissa McCarthy today.
She had a very public feud with Coretta about whether MLK would be pro-life and hate gays or not.
If O’Donnell plays Trump, Bannon should be played by Leslie Jones. There would be steam coming out of Trump’s ears and Bannon would plotz. Hopefully literally.
Good old Sean claimed that when Nordstrom stopped carrying products in the Ivanka line, that (in and of itself) constituted “a direct attack on his (Donald Trump’s) policies and her name”
Jesus Christ.
A department store must carry Ivanka’s products, otherwise they are directly attacking the president’s policies.
