The secret MMP

Tahred… but it was a productive day. Beddy time!

I’m back from my trip!

Yesterday my sister and I went first to Cheyenne Bottoms Wetlands and saw fantastic numbers of birds. Got a total of 42 species, some just a few, but others in incrdible numbers. It’s a major stopever on north south migration routes, and is managed to encourage stopovers for all species.

In the afternoon we drove on to the Quivera National Wildlife Refuge. Again, many many species of birds, including especially waterbirds. But the most spectacular of all was a whooping crane! They are still incredibly rare, and it was my first sighting ever of one. My sister, an avid birder who has birded on three continents, had only seen one twice before. She immediately reported it to a bird alert listing, and provided a picture she took, so there was documentation. She has had a reply from from the head of Quivira that it’s the earliest sighting, in the year, of a whooping crane at this refuge.

This morning we went back to Quivira, then drove on to Stafford, Kansas. They had an Oktoberfest celebration, including wiener dog races. My dog Mauser traveled with us and I entered him in the races, but we’d never practices and he didn’t know to run when the chute opened. He just ran around in a circle, and never even came to the finish line. Oh the shame! But he had a good time and so did we.

Whooping crane! Wow!

A friend who lives near me got a picture of what she said was a “rare crane” here in Montreal. I recognized it as a great egret and told her they’ve been getting more common around here.

At Quivira this morning we saw a huge flock of avocets, and along the shore were a couple dozen ibises, and an equal number of egrets. They are so gorgeous, and the avocets so striking in appearance, especially in the numbers we saw.

It was a good Saturday to be out of town. I live in Topeka, Kansas, and this evening President Chump was in town to support Kris Kobach in his candidacy for governor of Kansas. I live about seven blocks from the site he was speaking at, ugh.

It sounds like you’ve had a great trip Baker. I’ve seen Sandhill cranes, but never Whooping cranes.

On Monday, I pick up Akiko, my new puppy. I am happy.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work. Hockey after work

I’ve always wanted to see A Flock Of Seagulls.

And congrats on the puppah!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 91 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today’s plan calls for deheathenization (I have ush duty), brunch at the church house, and Blessin’ of The Animals/Blessin’/Dedication of the doggie park at the church house at four this afternoon. I don’t have a pet to be blessed but I like goin’ to hang around and see the various critters bein’ blessed.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence. Also must warm up the corn casserole.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Woke too early from bizarro dream, but I waited till 7 to drag out and tend to the critters. I’m about to hop into the shower, then breakfast and start my day. Not sure what I’ll do today - maybe drive John Deere around the yard, mulching up leaves.

Happy Sunday!!

I’ve never seen a wild crane except on holiday in Kenya (I was on holiday anyway, I didn’t ask the crane if it was). I’m envious. I’ve not been doing much birdy watching since I moved down here, aside from out the window. I should do more of it.

I appear to be not doing much today. I’ll head down the allotment shortly, but that’s looking like the excitement limit for the day.

MetalMouse, sounds like a hot, draining kind of day… I hope you’ve sufficiently recovered.

Swampy, does one get a certificate for having achieved corn casserole?

My picnic was actually quite nice, Midget. :begrudgingly: I’m glad I went. I ended up sitting next to my fellow committee member who also happens to be a teacher. She was saying that she had also been having issues with chronic fatigue and found a doctor who helped her after her regular doctor had tested her for everything. She gave me this doctor’s contact information. He’s a holistic medicine specialist which I would normally be a little skeptical of but she said that she was too at first but that he was really helpful.

Today I paint the front door purple!

Happy Sunday.

I’m sleepy. the only reason I’m up is that Ripple woke me.

The annoyances just keep coming.

Congrats on the birding success, Cupcakes; it’s not my thing, but I understand the joy of spotting something few ever see.

Sunny, safe travels and looking forward to pictures of the pup!

Sticky Buns, got a good 8 hours of sleep and while still a little sore, I feel much better; still going to make an easy day of it. And hope the new Doc can help, albeit I might be a tad skeptical too.

swampy, may all the animals be blessed; sometimes it’s the only thing that convinces me that humans are alright. (One of the girls on my soccer team has a Basset Hound/Pitbull mix–damnest looking thing, but a real sweetheart).

Another sunny day near 90, but they are predicting rain on Wednesday and highs next weekend around 70F…could the Fall season actually exist!!!

Question for those of you on Win10 - do you ever have wireless mouse issues? I just swapped mine for the 3rd time - I tried a Logitech, then a Microsoft, and I’m now using the second Logitech. The two that are piled in the corner of my desk would either not respond, or they’d get all jumpy instead of a smooth scroll. We tried battery replacement, but that didn’t seem to make a difference.

Yet another reason I hate Win10…

baker, it sounds like you had a lot of fun. And if he practices, maybe Mauser will get the hang of racing by next year.

Moooooom, the only 'puter that I work on with Windows10 is the one at irk where we have mice with tails, so I don’t know about the wireless thing. However, I’ve found that since the change, I have to come down hard on G and H to get them to take. Maybe coincedence, maybe not.

swampy, I always liked the feast day of St. Francis of Asissi when the animals got blessed at my home parish. It acknowledges the importance of animals in our life. I think it rocks that you have a dog park at your church.

Chilling over breakfast and coffee. The puppy crate is cleaned, a load of towels in the wash and Sunday chores are about to commence. I need to go out today to gas up the car and get some bug dope. I looked like a victim of the Texas chainsaw massacre when I came in from walking Nelson this morning because of all of the skeeter splats on my arms and face.

I ran to the grocery store for a few things - we were almost out of bread. McKay’s (where I rarely shop) had a great deal on poke loins and chickie breasts, so I stopped and got one pack of each. Two items. FIVE bags. I don’t understand…

Think I’ll go ride the mower around the yard.

I have win10, but I also have a laptop, so no mouse.

Does it do it everywhere or just on FB? FB has sucked lately with the screen bouncing around.
It also keeps suggesting groups I might like to join and all of them are church related. And everypost comes with the popup asking me if I like the post.

If they’re playing some distance away from you, would you run to see them? Would you run so far away?

I’ve run…twice since yestidy evening. I also got a photo I’ve been waiting months to get. Yup, last night was all smoke & metals.

**sari **- it did it randomly regardless of what I was doing - Word, Excel, Firefox, a game…but the current mouse is working fine. So who knows…

**Moommm **Sometimes the sensors get dirt trapped in them, and the ball will behave that way. You could try popping the ball out, wiping it off, cleaning off the sensors, and then putting it back together.

Yesterday I had the new top fitted to my MGB.

A little bit ago I installed floodlights over the new exterior door.
