Meh, they are paying the guy anyway.
Mother’s test results for something or other were negative. “After I spent all that money, they should have found something wrong with me!”

metal mouse, I do hope your pants were handy before you went out.
Nice house sunny!
Moooooom, if you don’t think that libraries keep self published crap, you’ve obviously never been a cardholder at a small town southern one. Especially on the genealogy, history and poetry shelves.
Yay for the raise ruble and I hope that you don’t need it to repair the hip.
Welcome back 2gig!
Ouch butters! I hope that your bumps and bruises heal quickly.
I learned some new reports that I’ll be taking over for the geek side of our department today. Then, when I went to leave, I couldn’t get into my locker. The built in combination lock would not open it. I called maintenance and their master key wouldn’t work, so they removed the lock and replaced it. It wasn’t like I could go anywhere with my phone, billfold and keys were in it. Now my blonde, middle aged brain has to learn a new combination.
Howdy Y’all! We supped and then I went to the Evenin’ Prayer/Healin’ service over to the church house. I should go to those more often as I always enjoy the service. Tomorrow I get to go to the doc in the a.m. and the dentist in the p.m. Joy.
I do not unnerstand this ‘59 minutes’ stuff you guys are talking about.
Of course, I’ve pretty much always (since the college) been a white collar type who was expected to put in 60-80 hour weeks for the same salary.
I know I had something i was gonna say when I came in here, but I’ve completely forgotten it. :smack:
Happy Hump Day!
Came home from irk a little early and took a nap. Naps are good.
Off tomorrow. Soreness is setting in but I am pretty sure there is no damage other than to my pride.
Fabulous house Sunny.
59 minutes are free time off usually given the Firday before a holiday. Basically it’s a free hour off.
Presents? I ain’t got no stinking presents.
At work, treading water. My supervisor left last month so I have all his duties, minus the title or pay. Though there’s a reasonable chance I will get both, eventually.
Unfortunately I am still scheduled as a full time shooter, whereas my supervisor was a full time manager, sooo… y’all know the story.
Sorry about not dropping in as much. Gonna try to do better.
In my copious free time.
2gig, holding down what amounts to be two jobs is reason enough; drop by whenever you can.
Bumba, like Butters said, duly authorized people (like base commanders) can authorize 59 minutes administrative leave with pay (just under an hour, for some reason other rules kick in if it’s more than an hour or more off) for Government workers. Usually happens on a Friday before a Monday holiday or before Thanksgiving/Christmas. Or in my workplace, birthdays.
Soccer practice went well, the kids had fun but with ths sun going down by 6:30pm we’re running out of time. With the older kids it’s not that much of a problem, the field we practice on is lighted, but not for the 7U ages.
Need to get the garbage out and the lawn mowed tomorrow. Oh joy.
Red - in my pre-retirement job, our offices had combination locks that were changed frequently. For a mnemonic, we had a picture of a phone keypad by the door, and the combo was a word. They’d let us pick our word, 6 characters, and it made it lots easier to remember. Maybe you can do something similar?
Bedtime. I’s tahred…
Way back when in the ancient days (4 years ago) virtually no-one at Amazon was full time except the management teams; all the rest of us were part-time seasonals. Under some hard looks from Uncle Sugar and pressure from other companies trying to steal a lot of us away they invented a full-part-time classification so the sortation system could operate. Promises were big – our hire date would be when we were first hired, instant raise when we converted, simple process for those who wanted to convert. Once they actually started, a couple months later, a lot of that changed. Hire dates became when we converted cheating most of us out of a year seniority, our $1.50 raise became $1.00. Our benefits ended up about half what was originally proposed and some things like the college funding became so limited and restricted that fewer than 5% of those who applied got anything and 90% of us never so much as qualified to apply.
Now with all this ----------- right now as a full blue badge I get $1 more than seasonals and temps but that won’t be the case in the future. People who work from OhGod:30 in the night to ChristOclock in the morning get a shift differential of $1.50; that is now going to be heavily restricted or possibly phased out. AMZL currently makes more than I do but no one seems to know if that is going to change. And no one seems to know if this filters to our fully-owned subsidiaries such as Whole Foods. It will NOT include all our contract workers (janitorial, facilities, security) or our flex-drivers and others in that boat.
I am cautiously optimistic but I fear the timing. This all comes into play just as Peak begins. If things aren’t as terrific as “promised” (and lets face it basically nothing has been promised) folks will bail just as we need them. And a month later when people realize that nothing has changed and a shit shift is still a shit shift more will bail; just as our need for them becomes critical.
So all in all, it will be interesting times. Since the last of our good-top-grade managers let me know he is bailing in three weeks for our Whole Foods project, I am seriously considering cashing it in myself. Time will tell.
I had a thread a while back ya missed ruble ……https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=862404
Last day in the factory. Tomorrow I’m at central office, my last day in the project. Tomorrow’s Quit O’Clock can’t get here fast enough.
After checking distances I’ve decided I’ll drive to Lyon via Liège to stop at The Factory Store. When people hear that you’ve just moved to the Liège area they ask if you know where the factory store is; the first day as he drove me to work, my manager made sure to point it out. It’s important, the factory store. This factory.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis <snerk> 69! <snerk> Amurrkin out and clear (I can see the moon and stars!) with a predicted high of 92 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Around here Fall means Summer with less humidity. As I mentioned yestiddy I get to go to the doc and the dentist today. Doc at nine fifteen this a. of m. and dentist at two-thirty (As in the best time to go to the dentist is tooth hurty. I crack me up!) this p. of m. Both are follow-ups and should not take long. We shall also sup upon majik intartoobz pizza and sallit. Sallit, as everybody knows, makes majik intartoobz pizza healthy.
Nava I say a visit to The Factory Store should be the highest of priorities.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, since I must be about the public, I suppose I should purtify and don appropriate goin’ about the public attire. Such a bother!
Happy Thursday Y’all!
Oh Swampy, you’re jokes are so clever! I went to the dentist yesterday, but my appointment was at 4:40 - nothing funny about that.
Nava, looks like a great factory!
Nothing new here. I just finished breakfast and I’m hanging out with my pups before I go to work. Tonight I have a meeting about a possible part-time job. It’s been in the works since February though so I’m not getting my hopes up until it’s official.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off o work. Hockey and tailgating after work.
This has been a busy morning already, and I’ve just been in the office about 15 minutes… I wanted to drop off a check to pay the HVAC company, but they don’t have a drop slot and their door seals tightly - I’ll have to hope I pass there before 4 this afternoon when they close. Then I had to stop for gas - I was well under a quarter of a tank. Both of those stops made me later than usual getting to my desk.
Team meeting at 1 today - we haven’t had one in ages. Other than that, just another day in paradise.
Happy Thursday!!
Morning all. Already put the garbage out and have to wait for the sun to dry out the grass before mowage can take place. Still due to be in the mid-80’s and humid today, with that now-common 20% chance of rain.
Nava, beats iKEA as a store worth visiting…
swampy, sticky buns, you know why the dentist is a D.D.S.? It means “Dey Died Screaming…”
ruble, hope you get everything that’s due to you (all y’all can take that anyway you want, but I’m sincere in regards to ruble).
mental image of gnawing on sofas
I know this will jinx it, but so far, the drawing from hell has been almost workable. I may actually get it done within the hour - I expected it to be an all-day adventure!
I am hereby officially angry with Kendji Girac I first discovered his work a few jobs ago: Spanish team working in France (including three Catalan-speakers), we heard some songs on the radio which were… rumba catalana? If it wasn’t rumba catalana it was the twin of rumba catalana, only the songs were in French. Having caught the name “Girac”, I put it in YouTube and got the video for one of those songs, with its accompanying playlist. A few videos later, the story opened with two guys leaving a bar; their conversation was subtitled?
because it was in Catalan! At which point I said whattheflyingfuck in a combination of every language I can speak and a few I can only cuss in and, since I already had the guy’s full name, googled him. Turns out this Lyon-born, Catalan Roma won the 3rd French Edition of The Voice with what French critics were calling “pop with strong flamenco influences” (by “won” I mean that the contest was about who’d get second place). Flamenco influences los güevos del gitano, that was indeed rumba catalana!
So, since the next gig is in Lyon and I like to change my ringtone for each project, I’d thought of getting a Kendji tone, but ah c’mon, it’s Lyon, there’s bound to be other people with Kendji-based tones, so maybe find something else.
And I go to youtube to check out his latest album (recently out, as anybody who’s right now in France and not deaf-blind can attest), and the first song is one I’ve been hearing in the radio and wondering who the heck that was but I couldn’t get the name…
So I’m mad at him. Or at DJs in the cow’s-ass end of France for playing songs without saying whose songs they play, one or the other. On irá fer la fe-te, on irá fer le guá…
Happy Thorsday!
The sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, another pretty day.
I have a big blurf, and grumpy too.
