Hmmm, a pizza joint with no hot wings or lounged out at Sue’s in front of HDTV with any food we care to bring/order. Ummmm, I’m down with Sue’s for the Superbowl and maybe Cicero’s another weekend.
Sue, since I respect the sanctity of marriage, may I request that you go ask your hubby to molest you most rudely?
Your hospitality is so effing unbeatable that your offer is neigh well impossible to refuse. The importation of Cicero’s pizza will be mandatory unless you agree to help me assemble another pizza party at that locale.
As papa of this thread I hereby open the podium for all to check in and respond to Sue’s most generous hijack (now there’s a new one for you).
Alla youse, please register your responses. For those of you unfamiliar with Sue’s hospitality, allow me to say that it is beyond reproach. Please try to remember just how picky I am when you think about this.
OK gang, let’s hear it!
You guys, sniff, are so cool! Finally! Guys who don’t go gaga for sports. I have truly found my group.
As for Sue’s idea, I’m down with that. I’ll go as long as I don’t have to talk about football.
Hey, I only watch the Superbowl for the commercials.
If everyone is okay with coming to my place, then we should start to think about the food.
So we’re getting Cicero’s to-go, but I could also make a big pot of chili (or maybe Cheffie’s Cuban black beans?) Definitely a salad. I’ll do a cake too, I suppose, I have an easy chocolate one that goes great with ice cream. I’ll also make a couple of dips, one cold, one hot.
I don’t dare attempt wings plus I don’t have a deep fryer, so if someone (Zenster?) wants to tackle that, I’d be appreciative.
What about zyzzyva? I assume you’re a vegetarian, but how far do you go? I can make half the chili w/o meat (substituting that tofu “ground beef”) if you’re really hardcore, or I could do a veggie lasagna if you still eat dairy.
What else? It seems as if a Superbowl party should only have foods that make you burp and fart…am I incorrect?
Whoops! I missed pugluvr’s post that she does wings. There ya go.
I’m totally hijacking this, I’m sorry. Well not really. I LOVE having a houseful of people, it’s like my calling in life.
BTW, I have three extra bedrooms if anyone needs to use them if they get too toasted (or just NEED them…cough rasaandoldie cough).
Well Sue, once again it seems as though you may have gotten your nefarious way.
Shall we consider a salsa bar? Ask the folks at the Holiday Dopefest how much fun that was. I can also bring a fine vegetarian appetizer (if Feta cheese is all right Zyzz).
Once again Sue, if you’re willing to attend a separate pizza party at Ciceros, then we can all think about that event later. Today, I talked with the grandson of Nunzio (the owner) and he disclaims all rumors about any changing of hands. To me, this translates into a few more months if we’re lucky.
Anyway, let’s see about a concensus before we all go pall mall on this one. I might even be able to dig up my mini-deep fryer for the wings. Otherwise, we’ll just go with a big cook pot for the Buffalo appendage-like objects. pugluvr, give us a read on the situation if you would.
The rest of you (Demo, thanks for your prompt response) please check in with comments on this tumultuous change of plans. Well…?
I’m there, what should I bring?
Ok, how did we get this totally undeserved rep? Jeez, show up late for ONE Dopefest cuz you’re… ahem … busy making brownies… and look at how the rumors start flying! I’ll have been there for almost a month by the time Sue’s party rolls around, perhaps the novelty will have worn off by then. Eh, who am I kidding?
[sub]Yeah yeah it wasn’t really the brownies that made us late for Zenster/Camster’s party…[/sub]
yes, i would love to come- especially since Sues house(not to mention Sue) is so lovely, and closer.
Umm, <serious question> when is superbowl sunday? Is that sports?
Keep me apprised!
“The cool kids… they come to Cali…” You bastards. You guys have all the fun. I’ll just sit here in a dirty room in an old house in a boring city. Pheh.

I’m full vegan. No meat, dairy, or eggs, and i try to avoid refined sugar whenever possible (sometimes). Don’t worry about the sugar tho. I always tell party hosts to please not go out of their way to make sure i have something to eat. I’m very good at improvising something, and hey i can always pick up a frozen soy cheese pizza on the way.
Man, I’m a sports editor, and even I couldn’t tell you when Super Bowl Sunday is.
I vaguely recall from the last time I opened a sports page a few years ago, that Super Sunday is always the last Sunday in January. Someone should be able to confirm this soon.
As for you zyzz, please check my recipe thread and see if my red pepper coulis sounds vegan enough for you. My friends’ restaurant (Falafel’s Drive In) also make some dynamite hummus and tabouli, so I might bring some of that as well.
I feel obliged to remind all of you here that still have a pizza party or two to hold. Sue, since you have so thoroughly hijacked this event, I will hope for a degree of cooperation from you. I feel that bringing the pizzas to the party may be too much of a hassle (Cicero’s doesn’t deliver). It is a doable concept, just not the best way to enjoy their excellent pizza. pug, the wings sound most excellent, what say ye to a mini oyster bar? I can shuck with the best of them. Maybe you could hit the Los Gatos oyterman on the way in? Fortunately, we have plenty of time to decide.
The rest of you; I’m taking names and you have all gotta be down for this pizza thang on another date. Details will follow…
All this trouble over my birthday? :o
Really, you shouldn’t have…
Zenster, hon, the SuperBowl is on our birthday. Yay for you!
The best pizza in
Berkely is Greg’s Pizza on Telegraph, just a couple doors down from the campus.
I’m in… There’s no way I can refuse an invite to Sue’s house.
and it really was the brownies that made us late.
well, kinda…
I will mark the calender and by January I will have time to consider what I can cook. Soooo - what about a football pool to spice things up? Hmm?
Well, i’m allergic to bell peppers, so that’s out. Hummus and tabouli would be fine, though. Like i said, don’t worry about it. The last thing i want is for this to turn into a “what are we gonna feed zyzzyva?” thread.
I think i’ll change my status to a “sure, why not?” Anyway rasa says I have to be there, and I wouldnt want to dissapoint her now would i? :). It’s the day before my first day of classes for next semester (if this is the last sunday of January, but, my first class doesnt start til 4 pm on Monday anyway.
Mwahahaha! I’m eeeevil I tell you, E-vil!
Yeah, sure I’ll go to a seperate party at Cicero’s, not a problem.
zyzz, are there any other things that you’re allergic to of foods you just despise? I consider it a challenge to come up with something you can eat without having to resort to tofu pizza. Let me know and I’ll whip something up.
I don’t know about an oyster bar Zen, I kinda rank oysters right up there with um, swallowing. (though I don’t mind them cooked)
