The Simpsons/Cleveland Show/Family Guy/American Dad - Sunday 5/16

That was a pretty good night overall. The Simpsons and Family Guy were funny, and American Dad was okay. I only watched about half of Cleveland before I wandered off.

Loved seeing Bender on Family Guy, and him waving his arms around like the Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm-Flailing Tubemen, and then seeing them do it as if following his example. That made the whole episode for me.

Marge: Lots of people sound like Sideshow Bob - like Frasier on Cheers!
Homer: And Frasier on Frasier!

I watched Family Guy. My jaw dropped at the Vietnam Memorial joke. Dang.

Is there really a dirty joke with a “your vagina’s in the sink” as a punchline? I don’t think I want to hear it.

Haw! Haw! Haw!

That’s a good one!

I’ll spare you, but yes, there is.

I thought The Simpsons was lame. Making fun of Kelsey Grammar’s voice was hardly good writing. The five state plot and police officials was stupid.

A bad Sideshow Bob episode.

Regarding Family Guy was it my imagination or did I see this in the credits:

“Based on a short story by Richard Matheson”?

If so, what story?

I was so happy to recognize Roger giving Steve Earle’s AA speech from the Wire on American Dad.

“. . . Then I went home and watched the Wire which is where this speech is from.”

Yeah, that’s my first impression, too. I like Sideshow Bob but the murder plot was too far over the top, and four sight gags of faces getting cut off/falling off was too many. It’s also kind of late for a Face/Off parody. There were some good bits mixed in there but I don’t think they balanced out those problems.

then put it in a spoiler box!

Completely redeemed by having Bob step on a rake, IMHO.

Not your imagination. Wiki says this episode was based on a Matheson story The Splendid Source.

ETA: Which is about the search for the source of dirty jokes.

I’d really rather not. It’s easily Googled.

double post

I loved the beginning of Family Guy, but thought that once they went to the island, it was just lame. Anyway, I was pretty certain that the sink joke was just a punchline with no joke, sort of the reverse of “Why is a raven like a writing desk?” I guess I was wrong.

I think it was better as just a punchline.

I just watched the Simpsons episode online. The face stuff was disturbing, but somehow not as disturbing as learning I’m older than Chief Wiggum.

It would have been nice had Lisa called the cops in all five states. She used to be the smart Simpson; this time she was literally just along for the ride.

Nah, on a Sideshow Bob episode it’s gotta be Bart that figures it out.

Can anyone explain this joke from The Simpsons that night?

It was right after the mayor announced the early release for the lower-tiered criminals. One went right over to a newspaper machine, put in a quarter, took out a stack of newspapers. That one I got.

But the next scene had three go over to the Springfield Isotopes stadium, where they stood in front of a fence that had the words “No Peppers” painted on it, and proceeded to play a game of catch. Or something. I couldn’t make heads or tails out of it. Anyone pick up on this?

“Pepper” is a baseball exercise.

See the last paragraph of the linked article in particular.

Bart would still be the one who recognized Bob, but Bart didn’t know they were headed for Five Corners, did he? And Lisa has an active role at least in the first Bob episode, as well as the one with the air show. It’s not a big deal; I just thought one quick line of exposition would have made the ending more satisfying.

Thanks!
