Good morning everyone and Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there.
I’ve been up and about since about 5:30 this morning. I’m still the only one up and I’m enjoying the relative peace and quiet. I’ve got the dishwasher running too.
We enjoyed spending time with our friends last night. They came over and we grilled some steaks and chicken breasts and I made some roasted potatoes that I had mixed with some rosemary infused olive oil and little regular olive oil, rosemary, thyme, sea salt, pepper, onions, garlic, and little onion powder. Not too much olive oil, enough to coat it for the herbs and spices to stick. Dumped it all on a sheet pan and roasted them in the oven for about 40 minutes.
I had planned on grilling steaks for the hubby today, but he kind of blew that plan out of the water when we invited our friends over for steak. I shall have to find something else to prepare for dinner today. He really doesn’t want to go anywhere or do anything (at least that’s what he told me Friday), so I guess we’ll just relax here at home and maybe knock out a couple of chores.
My daughter is spending her first Father’s Day away from home because she’s in Missouri. I don’t know if my son has anything planned for my husband. His bank account is pretty anemic anyway. He spent a good chunk of his graduation money on registering for his college freshman orientation.
I had “drama” between the dogs today. Yesterday, hubby came home with a femur bone that had been sawn in half for the dogs, so each of the dogs would have their own bone. They looooooove those things. Anyway, all was good, each enjoying their bone although I noticed that Polar never strayed far from his all day and night.
This morning, Brandi somehow got hold of Polar’s bone. I could tell he wasn’t happy, but he tried to be a sport about it. He half-heartedly gnawed on Brandi’s bone, but he kept watching her and she’d sort of growl at him every once in awhile. Finally, Polar couldn’t take it anymore, and he went to lie down next to her. He lay there awhile watching her gnaw, and then all of a sudden he just pounced. She tried to fight back, but he was having none of it. He snatched the bone from her and went to lie across the room from her. I led her to her bone and went out to the garage to have a smoke. When I came back in, I couldn’t find her or her bone, so she must have gone upstairs to pout. She does that.
You know, for the most part Polar just doesn’t care if Brandi grabs one of his toys or bones. He just sort of shrugs in his doggy way and finds something else. However, every once in awhile there is something he has decided is his, and his alone, and he lets her know. I guess this a good thing, because Brandi becomes a little uppity at times. She’ll sort of growl at him if he comes near the food dish while she’s using it (we have two, of course), but sometimes Polar just wants to grab what’s closest, she’ll growl a little if she feels he’s getting more attention than him, etc. We of course, tell her to knock it off, and she does.
When the dogs had their spat this morning, I let them know that wasn’t cool either. Both sort of whined at me and Polar started “talking” to me. Anyway, all is cool now, but I swear, it’s like having teenagers around here with those two sometimes.
