Is anyone else getting really sick of threads about beer? If so, join me in the SDTU!
Our first meeting begins right now. Up for discussion: the best non-alcoholic beverages. I humbly submit orange juice, water, Diet Coke, and IBC root beer, slightly chilled.
Well, I can’t really say I’m sick of the beer threads; I largely ignore them, since I couldn’t care less about beer, good, crappy or otherwise.
I do live on Coke, however. I also enjoy Cherry Coke and Cherry Pepsi. And I absolutely love Thomas Kemper root beers and cream sodas (chilled, of course).
You know, I always thought that Crystal Pepsi tasted a lot like 7-Up. I figure it’s because it didn’t have the brown color to cue your brain that it was supposed to taste like Pepsi.
And whatever happened to 7-Up Gold? And how did it differ from plain 7-Up?
I’m a teetotaller, so it’s nice to hang out with you chaps*. I am partial to Lucozade - do you have that in the US?
However I am also a member of the SDSFS club (Straight Dope Slightly Fussy Spellers**). TemperAnce, please.
Also temperance can mean moderation, or partial abstinence.
Cheers!
andygirl,
I see you are a member of the Unholy Lesbian Vampire Army of the Night. That sounds interesting (to put it mildly).
Do you accept ‘associate’ members?
Is Buffy popular with your group?
Also I am a member of SDMTS (Straight Dope Mild Tautology Spotters). Surely there isn’t an Unholy Lesbian Vampire Army of the Day, is there?
*British affectation, which of course includes all sexes.
**Please feel free to point out spelling mistakes in this post. We are a polite society.
I live for Diet Mountain Dew, which is probably bad for me in all sorts of ways people haven’t even thought of yet. And I also am a teetotaler (which has two acceptable spellings) (probably depends on what side of the Atlantic from whence you come).
I don’t really mind the beer threads; I just ignore them because I have no useful input for them.
Are Spiders welcome in the Unholy Lesbian Vampire Army of the Night? I could practice being spooky.
How’s this:
-----
—////\\
But I’m not mad, or at least not angry (no one has called my sanity into question lately) so maybe I’d better end with this:
Tomato juice is also good, you can put a little pepper on it if you like.
Something I like in hot weather is a stuff called Crystal light which you dissolve in water. I like the lemon-lime taste. Vey refreshing. Never really cared for Iced tea though.
There are, of course, several satellite groups of such a fine organization. They include the Unholy Lesbian Vampire Coast Guard of the Night and the ever popular Unholy Lesbian Vampire Girl Scouts of the Late Afternoon. There actually was an Army of the Day, but they were unfortunately disbanded after the incident where everyone forgot sunblock and became Unholy Piles of Dust.
Anthracite is our Dark Queen. Buffy is extremely popular with me. Alright, Alyson Hannigan and her tv girlfriend are, but I love the rest of the show as well. Quietgirl shares similiar sentiments.
Lucozade? Can’t say I’ve ever seen it stateside. Btw, I’m going to blame my spelling on posting at four in the morning. Vamping is exhausting.
Spider Woman, you crack me up. Yes, of course you’re welcome. I think the membership agreed that all it takes is a general degree of unholiness to become a member.
Now that the SDTU’s membership has grown, who’s up for going to some bars with sledgehammers?
Or we could just partake in this lovely IBC root beer.
Diet Pepsi for breakfast. Then coffee until noon. Caffeine-Free Diet Pepsi until bed. If I feel real decadent I have one (count it, one) fake beer every couple weeks.
Andygirl, we have much the same taste in women. Which may be one reason guys usually don’t have much against lesbians–shared interests. I, also, would rather sleep with Alyson Hannigan than a guy.
You are the outright winner of the SDSFS club (Straight Dope Slightly Fussy Spellers) annual award for ‘Best reason for a misspelling’.
‘I’m going to blame my spelling on posting at four in the morning. (Lesbian) Vamping is exhausting.’
The citation reads simply 'Thank you for that image! '.
dropzone,
you posted ‘Which may be one reason guys usually don’t have much against lesbians…’.
I just know there’s a double entendre in there somewhere.
Spider Woman ,
you posted ‘I also am a teetotaler (which has two acceptable spellings) (probably depends on what side of the Atlantic from whence you come).’
Absolutely. My (English) English dictionary defines teetotaller and then gives ‘teetotaler = US spelling’.
At this time of year, the best non-alcoholic beverage other than coffee is apple cider, if you can get it fresh and unfiltered.
The rest of the year, it’s vanilla Cokes, which are like cherry Cokes, only with vanilla syrup instead of cherry. Cherry Cokes aren’t bad either, as long as they’re Coke with cherry syrup added, and not the fake canned stuff that the folks at Coca-Cola came up with.
Then there’s teamonade, a wondrous mix of lemonade and sweet tea. (I take mine 2 or 3 parts lemonade to 1 part tea; it varies.) And I’m sure that if the Southern contingent finds this thread, words will be said in support of sweet tea by itself.
Okay, pass the V-8, and add that great celery stalk, and I think we gotta party goin’ on here!!
I’m also a severe Coke-a-holic, which is easier to get in the morning than coffee anyway! [Anti has a wonderful case of rationalization going, wouldn’t you say?? ;)]
However, unlike many drinkers of potent potables, I have a bigger investment in that I am learning to brew my own…
One might even say that I also enjoy Cider, but I prefer mine a little more… shall we say… aged??
As for the ULVAN, I would be interested, but sadly lack the appropriate plumbing. Do you have a mens’ Auxilliary? Also, my wife is bi-sexual… do you have some sort of ‘don’t ask, don’t drive a stake through the heart’ policy?
