The rally was on June 20. Symptoms can start within 48 hours. And according to the CNN article he’d had cancer and that would make him more likely to have more severe complications from COVID.

I doubt it. The only death that might make an impact is Trump. And I doubt that too because if he died of COVID I bet his team would lie and say he died of anything but COVID.

The right-wingers at my place of work are certain, CERTAIN that doctors are putting COVID-19 down as cause of death for things like heart attacks, because they somehow (mumble mumble) get more money from the government if they do so. So, apparently not.

Not only ^this, but: somehow Trump is still being seen by these deep thinkers as ‘not the government.’ Somehow they give him a complete pass for being responsible for what ‘the government’ does.
It has to be some sort of psychological-identification phenomenon: these people want to be adored toddlers who can do anything (ANYthing!!!) and be forgiven, so they award Trump the status they crave for themselves, and simultaneously identify with him.
What else would account for such abandonment of all common-sense notions of personal responsibility?

To be fair, hospitals do get extra for Covid patients.
There is a 20% surplus charge so that treating a patient with Covid pays 20% more than treating a patient with pneumonia, for example.This was started as part of the Coronovirus Relief Act and presumably compensates hospitals for the fact that Covid-19 patients have longer, more complicated courses with extensive ICU stays. (Remember that hospitals are paid a set amount by Medicare for a patient with a certain diagnosis. For example, they get X dollars for a patient with a heart attack and Y dollars for a patient with pneumonia. This is apparently to encourage efficiency and prevent hospitals from just keeping patients and doing multiple tests as was happening when they were paid fee for service. The surplus for Covid-19 also helps to make up for extra costs for PPE, etc. Theoretically, then, the hospital could make money by listing any patient with pneumonia, heart attack or stroke as having probable Covid-19 in order to get the extra money. Frankly, I think that there are some hospitals who might do this, but most likely would not).
