I’ve been interested in groups like this for a long time. It’s amazing how mainstreamed a cult can become if the men wear expensive suits, have law degrees and don’t practice polygamy.
Some of the Fundamentalist Baptist churches are way worse than the Fundamentalist Mormon polygamy cults in terms or abuse and control, but without the salaciousness of polygamy, they fly under the radar.
The line between church and cult isn’t bright, and I’ve described lots of these “churches” as cults-in-waiting. These are groups of believers that have become increasingly co-dependent and insulated from the outside world. All they are missing is the abusive leadership, and that frequently appears or evolves.
Anyway, I think the first key to understanding these groups is comprehending that for the most part they really believe the stuff they spout, no matter how absurd it seems to us.
There’s room for debating whether the leaders at the very top of the power structure really believe, some of them are straight up cons but others have fully internalized their place at the top of the power structure.
So what if this GSA putzface tries to claim that the decisions from all the GOP lawsuits have to be established, first, before she’ll grant a transition for Biden?
I bet you he’s just going to put up a statue of himself. They’ll put a plaque on it saying that he was declared the greatest president in the history of the universe.
They seem to be tearing up a bigger patch of lawn than would be needed for one statue. Maybe he’s terminally ill, and he’s building a mausoleum to house his soon-to-be-shuffled-off mortal coil?
There probably isn’t much that can be done. I can’t imagine the laws that require the document she needs to sign would tie the signing of that document to media calls, projected outcomes, or anything that vague. The actual language states that it’s based on GSA “ascertaining” that there is an "apparent successful candidate”. There is no language anywhere that says what that means.
The last delay in ascertainment was in 2000 pending the lawsuit in Florida. It was finally provided on Dec 13. Perhaps of note, the 9/11 report stated that the delay in the transition was a contributor to unpreparedness in the lead-up to the attack.
There was a story that the Biden team was considering litigation to force ascertainment, but that seems rather unlikely to be successful at least until results in various states are certified.
