The Pew Research Center released a new poll on Thursday showing that just 27% of Americans support all or most of Trump’s policies, which is down from 35% at this time last year. The poll noted that the change “has come entirely among Republicans.”
While overall confidence in Trump’s ethics in office was already relatively low last February (29%), it has declined 8 percentage points since," the poll results read in part. “And nearly all of that drop has come among Republicans: At the beginning of Trump’s second term, a 55% majority of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents said they were confident that Trump acts ethically in office, but that share now stands at 42%.”
There has got to be some conservative with funds who looks at the presumptive GOP nominee Vance, who may face a primary fight with Rubio, who can call trump out on the cognitive tests. Just the drawing of a clock with all 12 numbers correctly placed, and some random time sketched in.
There is no way he “aced” that test. There is no way he passed that test. Be the candidate to gain some prominence, be prepared to defend against the DOJ, make trump look like a fool, and guarantee he cannot just stay on, or run again, even if he claimed he’s already had 2020-2024 robbed from him.
Vance is the VP and Rubio the SOS for a President who proves you can be out of your mind and have Dementia at the same time.
Waiting till after the election to declare means Vance gets to run two more times after trump makes his mental illness clear.
“‘Fellow citizens, we cannot escape history. We of this Congress and this administration will be remembered in spite of ourselves.”
That is what he said. That is what Abe Lincoln said.
Those poll results seem almost too good to be true (only 42% of Republicans say Trump acts ethically in office) , It would be nice if they are real but they could just be a random outlier.
If Trump really is starting to be unpopular among Republicans the tide against him could shift very fast. Once 51% of Fox news viewers or Republican Primary voters start having a negative view of Trump. The right wing media and Congress will jump ship without skipping a beat and start pretending that they never supported him.
If we had a Stupid Trump Idea of the Day thread, i would put this there.
Trump says if Canada does a trade deal with China, China won’t let them play hockey any more.
On Canada, Trump said that “it’s even more dangerous for Canada to get into business with China. Canada is not doing well … You can’t look at China as the answer,” Reuters reported.
“President Xi is a friend of mine, I know him very well … The first thing they’re going to do is say you’re not allowed to play ice hockey anymore. Canada’s not going to like that,” Trump said.
Meanwhile, footage circulated today of a woman in Minnesota who left her home to warm the car for her kids and got taken by federal agents. The video shows her calling someone to look after her children, who were left alone in the house.
Richardson puts links/cites to all of her stories at the bottom of every post. I’m on my phone, so it was problematic to check each link to see which one refers to this incident.
Respectfully disagree. Someone else in one of these threads (maybe the ‘Trump is dying’ thread, maybe even this one, hard to keep track) made a trump ‘legacy’ comparison to the movement to discredit Stalin after his death. I too think there will be a ‘destalinization’ of trump’s legacy, beginning soon after he dies. The crowbars, both literal and metaphorical, will come out, ripping his name and the taint of his gilt-ridden trumpery off everything in Washington.
Most Republican Congresspeople secretly despise trump, from what I’ve heard. Look at the ones who suddenly grow a spine and speak up against him after they are no longer running for reelection, like Thom Tillis. And of the current trump toadies who at one point spoke out against him but changed their tune, like Graham, Rubio and of course Vance, I don’t believe they had a ‘Paul on the road to Damascus’ style revelation of what an amazing leader and all-around great human being trump actually is; I think they came to a crossroads where they had to choose between their political career and their integrity. There will be no Reagan-style mythos and reverence for trump after his death.
It’ll probably be forgotten how they had his back for so many years, after the mourning period (and that mourning card is re-playable), and it devolves into primaries.
It’ll likely depend on what happens with his personality cult after he dies. If it falls apart I expect the leadership will basically try to pretend he never existed; if it holds together and turns him into some martyr/messiah figure even after his death I expect they’ll continue with the Profiles in Cowardice behavior.
After all the mourning, there will be two kinds of GOPpers:
High Praise for our Greatest President. I will carry on his MAGA policies. Vance and Rubio, at least are in this group, along with those who depend on MAGA.
Our great President and I had some philosophical differences, yet under my leadership, the great USA dollar will once again be worth more than the Euro.
Anyone riding the outside rail where they challenge trump needs to do so before election day this year, take all the hits, draw a clock in real time, and challenge trump even to draw a circle.
He’ll never be a Saint Ronnie, who spent his two last years as president with-- taps forehead repeatedly – oh yeah, Alzheimer’s. Just don’t know if it’ll be an extended golf vacation near Walter Reed or something live on TV, yet he won’t see June.
Love conquers all is a myth. Hate is an extremely powerful and long-lasting, even addictive, emotion. The organge stain is not supported because the magaflatearthers love him. They support him out of hate. And there’s one thing they hate more than anything else: politicians who don’t hate whom he hates. If they try to pretend they don’t support him after he craps out on the terlet in the wee hours one night, the magaflatearther populace will turn on them like a Biblical plague. The trumpeter voting public will continue their current behavior. It’s more Pavlovian than anything else at this point.
And that’s not the only date the clown’s clowns missed.
My best guess is they’ve pulled out more Epstein files as a squirrel to distract from the current disaster the felon’s other flacks are creating in Minneapolis.
Call me silly, but I think it’s not all that diplomatic for administration officials to be hobknobbing with groups dedicated to breaking up a country that’s been, up to now, our ally.
