The Trump Administration: The Clusterfuck Continues (Part 2)

To add a little to my previous post, if he’s removed from office by the 25th amendment I’m not sure it will be publicly announced. For that I’d expect to see him “hospitalized” for some unrelated reason, but he’d still nominally be President. Depending on what happens after a few days or weeks would determine if it’s permanent or not.

I wish I had your optimistic view of Trump’s cabinet.

I think it’s far more likely that Trump uses conventional weapons to attack and destroy civilian infrastructure in Iran. Which is a war crime, of course.

And Iran will likely respond by going after civilian infrastructure in neighboring countries with drones and missiles.

I wouldn’t even put those odds at 0.03%. “Finally! This is the one that brings him down!” announcements are just tiring.

I’d agree. The nuclear option is, well, ‘the nuclear option’ and I don’t think Trump is quite backed into a corner enough yet. Won’t stop him murdering thousands of civilians though, by more conventional explosive means.

Trump’s tweets the past few days have been far more unhinged than normal. Last night he tweeted

“‘A whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will”

Regardless of how he wants to destroy a “whole civilization”, nukes or a massive strike with conventional weapons, I don’t think we’ll see the scale of destruction he’s promising. If Trump himself backs down, then fine. If he doesn’t back down, that’s where we enter “unprecedented” territory.

Oil prices are slowly falling, looks like traders are smelling TACO

Isn’t that the truth! He’s going to need time in a rest home after trump leaves office. A nice place in the Alps somewhere with lots of mountains…

I think these back and fort, up and down, yo-yo threats (spewed by the Big Yo-Yo himself) are generating stock market profits, and that may be his real “plan.”

“Look for it only in books, for it is no more than a dream remembered, a Civilization gone with the wind . . .”

– opening epigraph to the movie Gone with the Wind

One hopes not. Destruction on that scale will solve nothing, and condemn the US in the eyes of the world for the foreseeable future.

Part of the 25th Amendment is that Congress is notified. If that happens, it’ll be almost certain to be leaked. Of course, the current Admin leaks like a sieve, so the word is likely to get out even if they didn’t tell Congress.

Even if he’s 25th, he’ll still be President. The VP just becomes Acting President.

'No. I’ll resign. I’ll do whatever I can do legally to stop this, bc this is insane…

We may be at the point where the only way to stop a nuke (or other hypothetical massive war crime) requires something that is not legal…

If we’re talking odds, I think they are:
49.5% TACO Tuesday, with the excuse of “They are bowing to my powers, and negotiations are going bigly in our favor” (narrator: negotiations are not underway)
49.5% Lots of bombs blowing stuff up
1% Something more terrible

All this “TACO” talk increases the chance he’ll do something extremely destructive to prove his"bravery" IMHO; I recall much the same being said about Bush before the first Iraq war.

I figure it’s about evenly split between leaving with some excuse it’s a victory, a large scale, indiscriminate conventional bombing attack, nuking Tehran then demanding unconditional surrender (from the possibly dead leadership), or the widespread use of nuclear weapons with the intent of essentially exterminating the Iranian population.

At this point, that might be our best way out. There’s enough conservative pushback right now that if he attempts to order it, it might finally result in him being removed.

If you were to give odds, I would take them, because Vance is in Hungary tonight.

I’ve long held to a theory that I was in a horrible car accident in 2016, that I’ve been in a coma since then and all this shit going on in the world is the best my brain could come up with to approximate reality. Therefore, I full expect nukes to drop on Tehran tonight. It’s the only thing that makes sense.

On the bright side, if Tehran exists tomorrow morning it’ll mean that I’m not actually in a coma.
Wait. That’s not a bright side.

Y’know, you have to just love when he gives a direct example of dissonance. In the same post he proclaims there has been total complete regime change AND threatens civilizational death.

What I have perceived for a couple of weeks is he will recurrently lie about there being negotiations and requests for terms, and the Iranians refuse to play along and instead call him on that there’s no such thing.

The Congressional GOP leaders meanwhile are just hoping that if they’re still around to reconvene by the time Easter Recess ends, whatever was going to happen or not happened or didn’t and they can pull their trademark “why talk about what already done, let’s move on” line.

(BTW I too have mentioned before that you have to be carefull how hard are you rubbing TACO in his face.)

I’m hardly the first person to point it out, but truth just doesn’t mean anything to Trump. He doesn’t even bother to come up with consistent lies, he just says whatever makes him feel good or seems like will get him what he wants in the moment. So he’ll casually contradict himself in the same speech or even same sentence because to Trump talking isn’t about conveying information or meaning; it’s just a tool to get what he wants.

Notified by whom? I thought Congress is the entity that does it.

You really can’t compare trump to Bush or to any other person, animal, vegetable, or mineral. Although… vegetable…
