See, this is a problem that a lot of people don’t even realize.
The idea that there even had to be some exterior source of “damage” is one Trump himself promulgated and everybody just accepts his narrative, even if they blame different causes of that “damage”. Why do people, even nominally anti-Trump people, accept even a portion of his narrative without questioning it much?
The explanation for most, if not the entirety of, the problems is still…the folks who got the no-bid contract to work on the reflecting pool were grifters who didn’t know what they were doing which resulted in entirely predictable issues with the lining.
“We’re competent, we swear. It must have been some saboteurs”. FFS, don’t accept everything at face value except the source of the sabotage. How gullible can people be?
And guess who is getting even more money to fix the problems they almost certainly caused in the first place?

But what is really frightening here is that it does appear as if Trump has given up on trying to extract something that looks like victory.

But what is happening is that effectively he’s setting up the pretext, the groundwork for massive interference in the vote this November. That we’re basically seeing the stage set for some kind of attempt to block fair elections, maybe block elections entirely.

In short, “the call is coming from inside the house.”
There’s nothing “gullible” about thinking that driving a heavy motorcade over a shittily-lined pool might be responsible for some of the alleged damage to the pool lining. It’s clearly not the entire cause of the problem by any means (that would be the shitty lining) but insisting that it couldn’t have caused any damage is itself a little unreasonable.
And it was just such an asinine thing to do in the first place. Why did they have to drive an entire motorcade across it to “Inspect” it? Couldn’t Trump have seen it just by standing next to it? And why do it so soon after the work was “completed”? Everyone who’s ever had their driveway resealed or repaved knows they tell you not to drive on it for a few days. What idiot* thought this was a good idea to begin with?
*Okay, well, we probably know the answer to that one.
I wonder if they even gave the lining time to cure. Driving a 20,000 pound limo over a cured lining would seem likely to cause damage. much more damage, though, if the lining hadn’t cured completely.
And that’s mainly just to let the concrete set. Curing takes considerably longer. For a 20,000 pound limo, it wouldn’t surprise me if they needed to let it cure for more than a month.
And this is, I think, far flimsier than concrete.
And that’s not what I claimed - as noted “most, if not the entirety” but it’s still what gets the most coverage. And not, ya know, the millions sent to a neighbor and donor who has no experience in this type of work. And that’s going beyond the distraction the pool itself is from Iran or Epstein or other issues.
Even when trying to push back against Trump, people get trapped in his narratives.
We can’t help but be led by the nose. No matter how much we deny it, we get distracted from whatever is actually worrying him, whether that’s Epstein or Iran or which corrupt official screwed up most recently or whatever.
There was Chairface Chippendale, who tried to etch his name on the moon with a laser.
Who’s getting “trapped in his narratives”? Nobody’s denying that he gave a no-bid contract to a crony who did a shitty job on the pool.
We all are. While he’s not directly intelligent, he’s a master of distraction
We’re talking about the pool. And not Iran. And certainly not Epstein. And not the economy.
Even with the pool, we’re not even talking about the crony. We’re talking about people slicing or not slicing the pool and the motorcade.
It’s layers and layers of misdirection, and we all get caught up in it
Except we’re talking about all of that, all over the place. We can talk about more than one thing at once, and we do. And not just here on SDMB, but everywhere else I look. You can’t even mention the Trump Outrage du Jour on reddit without a dozen people mentioning all the other shit he’s doing.
We haven’t forgotten about Iran or Epstein or the economy. We can talk about multiple things.
I personally am aware of Todd Blanche’s latest bullshitting about why the Epstein files have not been released in full as legally required. I admit keeping up with Trump’s “changing by the minute” Iran strategy is difficult but whatever his view of the moment, the US isn’t winning and doesn’t have a plan to win, in large part because there’s no stated goal to “win”. And the cost of living keeps rising thanks to the war with Iran and tariffs and a host of other stupid policies.
In the pictures I’ve seen in the last few days, I don’t see any of the blue liner missing from the bottom of the pool. Is it possible that some pranksters got pieces of a similar liner from somewhere else and threw them in the reflecting pool to fool everyone, especially Trump, into thinking it was peeling? Maybe the tarps that are surrounding the pool now aren’t to conceal the damage, but to hide that there isn’t any.
I hope that the people accused of vandalizing the liner are getting evidence to exonerate themselves.
I understand that it is not literally the case that the other things have been forgotten.
But there’s very little collective focus on any of them. Just the outrage/schadenfreude du jour. And that changes from day to day. We don’t (figuratively) put any real effort into any particular one of them. Because as soon as we do, he tosses another distraction.
Some individuals (yes, even in Congress) do maintain focus and put in effort but we don’t them much attention. Or even blame of “doing nothing” or at least not enough when we’re worse in many ways.
So the traitor is destroying other things. Quite the legasy Mitch.
