That vote was because nobody wanted to perform there and nobody was buying tickets because he slapped his name on it, fired the real board, and appointed himself chair. That killed it. The “we need to close it” was to avoid the embarrassment that everyone hated him taking control of it. “Those grapes were probably sour anyway” essentially.
Whatever happened with the Gulf of Mexico? Is anyone actually calling it the Gulf of America these days, or did people just ignore the stupidity after the initial furore?
A Canadian friend sent me a screenshot from a blog called Life in Canada. It’s a border map with Lake Erie relabeled as Lake Trumpsatwat.
I’ll admit it made me laugh out loud.
We have too many threads about Chieftain Ineptstein the Orange Stain with No Brain, we had a brief discussion on Lake CIOSNB in the invading Panama and Greeland thread:
Naturally, it’s used by default among US oil and gas companies, at least in-country. They certainly aren’t using the naming in their offices in Mexico.
So, yes, it’s widely used. But many people end up forgetting regularly. I have, so far, not used that naming once at work.
For example, the use of Persian vs Arabian Gulf is something companies have to be very careful about. So, this isn’t a new thing but it is a particularly dumb example of it. It was never controversial to call it the Gulf of Mexico in the US ever.
Please tell me that you live somewhere near the gulf. I mean, it’s still a moronic thing to do, but if you live in, say, Ohio, that’s extra levels of delusion.
