Trump’s thinking is that the only reason the Iranians are holding out is to help Democrats and make him look bad, and once Republicans win bigly they’ll come to him with tears in their eyes and say “Sir, we want to make a deal like nobody’s ever seen”.
Utterly delusional, but it’s the same thing he thought was happening with covid in 2020.
Yeah, Fuck That $2.50 gas and $4.99/lb beef.

Sherrerd:
The “war is gonna end immediately after the election” is much more alarming. Donald knows that if he sends troops into Iran today he’ll have hundreds of Republican office-holders screaming at him. He doesn’t like that. Even though he holds all the power, he doesn’t like getting screamed at.
But after the election, they won’t scream. So he can send in the troops to die in their hundreds (at least) and “take Tehran.”
If no one stops him, he will do this.
I think you are right about this.

I suspect the attempted con is far more feeble though equally duplicitous. I think Trump is just desperately trying to make voters believe that the only way to “win” the Iran conflict is to re-elect Republicans.
Trump’s current line of bullshit is that Iran is somehow able to obstinately stave off disaster for another few weeks despite hanging on to survival by a thread, in the hope that Republicans will be defeated in November.
Because if Republicans lose, Trump claims, Iran will magically be re-energized and/or Democrats will inexplicably fail to seize the victory over their totally exhausted and helpless antagonist that “can’t hold out any longer”. Only if Republicans win will the wiped-out, completely depleted and defeated Iranian forces actually crumble.
And then, allegedly, that golden day will dawn when the USA returns to $2.00/gallon gas and low prices and low taxes and wonderful jobs for everyone.
Of course, the reality is that if Republicans do manage to hold their seats not a damn thing will change, in the Iran conflict or in the economy. But Trump is hoping he can fool voters into believing otherwise. And to be fair, Trump voters so far have not shown any indication of being too smart to fall for such obvious bullshit.
An emergency chute on the Qatari Air Force One accidentally deployed right before Trump was scheduled to leave for Dallas today. Trump told reporters that they were really just checking it, you know, like they do minutes before take-off. Nothing to see here. The original AF1 was brought out for backup.

The felon “gifted” three female government workers $45,000 each.
Donald Trump reportedly gifted Natalie Harp and two other female White House aides $45,000 each in cash.
Harp, 35, deputy director of Oval Office operations Chamberlain Harris, 26, and communications adviser Margo Martin, 31, all received the money as a “cash gift for the holidays,” outlets including CNN and Politico reported, citing financial disclosures filed by the White House.
Harp, Harris and Martin all make annual salaries of $150,000, per publicly disclosed White House documents .
The White House commented on the reports on X , sharing a statement that read, “The president has a longstanding practice of giving Christmas gifts to people in his orbit, including at times employees and aides, both in government and in his time in the private sector.”
“The gifts at issue here have nothing to do with any of these individuals’ official government duties, and, therefore, are entirely permissible under relevant legal and ethical standards,” it added.
Yeah, right. Nothing to do with their official duties. That doesn’t pass the smell test. And, yes, I’m referring to the smell from the stable floor.
Yep, nothing like a squeaky clean celebration of America’s independence. And that’s exactly what he did: nothing like it.
Congressional Democrats are calling on a key government watchdog to investigate whether the Trump administration unlawfully used taxpayer-funded 250th anniversary celebrations to bolster Republican’s midterm campaign efforts.
In a Sept. 8 letter , Reps. Jared Huffman and Joseph Morelle, leading Democrats on the House Natural Resources Committee asked the Government Accountability Office, Congress’ nonpartisan investigative arm, to examine whether user data collected during Freedom 250 events has been used by Trump and his Republican allies to build voter contact lists.
“President Trump and his allies are in a position to use information on American voters, harvested with taxpayer money and government resources, in an attempt to tip the scales in the upcoming midterm elections,” the lawmakers wrote.
Freedom 250, the quasi-government group Trump created to carry out his vision for the nation’s 250th anniversary, hired Campaign Nucleus, a company founded by the president’s 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale, to run ticketing, registration and data collection. Parscale also owns the company that handled Freedom 250’s email and text messaging, Dyspatchit.
Americans who sought tickets to an array of 250th events, including the FIFA World Cup Fan Zone on the National Mall, the Great American State Fair, the July 4 Salute to America, and the Patriot Games, submitted their name, email address, phone number and ZIP Code to the Campaign Nucleus system.
USA TODAY previously reported that those who requested tickets to the Great American State Fair were asked to consent to receiving requests for donations to an organization affiliated with Trump’s campaign arm. They were also directed to 45.donaldjtrump.com , a site asking people to “consider donating to the MAGA movement.”
Grift Force One slides on for the felon.
WASHINGTON, Sept 9 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump departed Washington for Texas on Wednesday aboard the Air Force One plane gifted by Qatar after an emergency slide was accidentally deployed and was removed.
Military personnel accidentally triggered the slide, a person briefed on the matter told Reuters.
The slide was activated shortly before Trump was due to board for a flight to Dallas for the first-ever Republican midterm convention. The issue briefly delayed Trump’s departure.
Asked by a journalist whether he was sure that the plane was safe to fly, Trump said: “Yeah, I am, or I wouldn’t be on it.”
The convicted felon wants to screw up the 2030 census.
Sept 9 (Reuters) - The Trump administration proposed on Wednesday changing the national census to include only U.S. citizens and permanent residents, a move that could significantly change how much political representation and federal funding each state receives.
The U.S. Census Bureau submitted the proposal just over a year after President Donald Trump ordered its parent agency to craft a new census that would block immigrants in the U.S. illegally from being counted. The bureau will conduct the next full census in 2030.
The proposed rule changes would exclude even more immigrants from the census, such as those in the U.S. on a temporary lawful basis. The proposed changes would also eliminate parts of the questionnaire that seek information on race or ethnicity, which have been included since the first census in 1790.
The proposal is open to public comment for 30 days.
Demography experts and civil rights advocates warn that both changes could warp the data used for drawing congressional and state legislative districts, enforcing anti-discrimination law and allocating federal funds for public services.
To paraphrase a line from, IIRC, Crucible of Blood : “He really hates fucking immigrants except, oddly enough, when he’s fucking immigrants.”
Loony Loomer has some unhinged advice for Junior Dictator Vance. (The bolding is mine.)
Right-wing provocateur Laura Loomer publicly urged Vice President JD Vance to refuse a handshake with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at an upcoming 9/11 anniversary ceremony.
Loomer, an ally of President Donald Trump with a large social media following, made the plea Tuesday in a series of X posts laced with anti-Muslim rhetoric .
“I’m saying this from a place of concern: Mr. Vice President…Do not shake [Mamdani’s] hand when you attend the 9/11 ceremony in New York,” she wrote. “It will be a photo you live to regret forever if you shake his hand at the 9/11 memorial.”
In a separate post, she wrote that the “most America First thing” Vance can do “on 9/11 is refuse to shake the dirty Muslim Mayor’s hand.” She also baselessly characterized Mamdani as a “jihadist.”
Well, alrighty then, NATO is obviously no longer needed.
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin assured U.S. President Donald Trump in a phone call Tuesday that Moscow doesn’t harbor aggressive intentions toward Europe, a senior Kremlin official said, after European officials blamed Moscow for sabotage campaigns on their soil.
&
Yuri Ushakov, Putin’s foreign affairs adviser, said the hourlong conversation between Putin and Trump was “constructive and quite frank.” Moscow has a positive view of the results of the weekend visit by Witkoff and Kushner, he added.
There was no immediate White House comment on the call.
Ushakov told reporters that “in view of the speculation about Russia’s alleged hostile intentions toward European countries, it was underlined that we don’t have any aggressive plans regarding Europe.”
Pentagon going Gattaca to find Transgender members.
The Pentagon is using military medical and personnel records to identify service members with current or past diagnoses of gender dysphoria as it moves to separate transgender troops under the Trump administration’s ban, according to a Federal News Network investigation published Monday.
The effort has led commanders across the military to receive notices identifying troops in their units who may fall under the policy and directing them to begin the separation process, per the report. The outlet cited multiple service members, advocates and internal military documents.
An internal Air Force email obtained by Federal News Network said the Office of the Secretary of Defense had identified service members “who may have a current diagnosis or history of or exhibit symptoms consistent with gender dysphoria in their electronic healthcare record.”
Yet another Nazi LARPer rises to the top ranks of the scuministration. (The formatting is from the link.)
Marco Rubio is facing renewed questions over the background of a senior State Department aide now helping shape his policy messaging. The scrutiny centers on Nate Hochman, whose 2023 exit from Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign followed controversy over a pro-DeSantis video containing a symbol associated with Nazis and white supremacists.
Hochman now serves as deputy director of the State Department’s policy planning office, the New York Times reported. His email signature also identifies him as Rubio’s chief speechwriter. The appointment has revived scrutiny of Hochman’s 2023 work for DeSantis.
Axios reported at the time that Hochman created and circulated a pro-DeSantis video featuring the Sonnenrad, or Black Sun. The clip ended with DeSantis’ face placed inside the symbol as soldiers marched across the screen.
From the Trumpapalooza convention tonight:
“If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate…I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000.”
That works out to $1.29 trillion dollars.

Do all airplane slides typically look like they are sealed with duct tape? Does the autopilot for Grift Force One look like:
He thinks everything is for sale. He can be very generous, particularly when it is not his money on the line.
Interesting that he does not know what a dividend is. And that he can’t issue them.
I wonder what that will do to inflation. I say will, because of course he will win, he never loses, even when he does. So he’ll have to put up or admit that he lost. Which is not possible.
Or cheat his way out of it, again. Like the Americans are his contractors, or hookers.
Nah, it’s interesting when he actually knows what something is. Not knowing is the default status of his entire, sorry existence

Isn’t this blatantly against the law? 18 US Code It seems to me just the offer alone violates the law.
Yeah yeah, I know. Trump slices up law violations on to his Cheerios in the morning.
Would anyone taking the mythical $5000 be in violation of the law too? If the Pubbies win but you voted for the Democrat, would you be safe then taking the never-to-be-seen $5000?
Don’t worry, if you’re a likely Dem voter, your mail-in ballot will be lost at the post office.

But you still wouldn’t be in violation of the law if you took the vaporware $5000 but didn’t vote for the Republican. Right?
