Actually, maybe, yes: don’t you have to declare citizenship to register? But such a philosophical question is distinct from what’s actually going on, which is scapegoating and the usual fascism.
Sometimes there are data issues with state voting registrations and non citizens who have not positively declared themselves to be citizens are registered nonetheless. Some of those registrees also do not know that you can’t vote if you’re not a citizen, and plus, the government is mailing you stuff telling you that you can vote, so they think “Huh. I guess I really can vote?”
Which is a separate issue as to whether it justifies deportation.
I would bet it’s more along the lines that the GOP faithful are bigtime law and order types, and tend to view any sort of law enforcement technology as an unalloyed good if it might catch or impede criminals, no matter how invasive or rights-violating it might be. There are a lot of timorous old farts out there who are scared of “criminals” far out of proportion to the actual number of criminals or crimes, and they see Flock cameras as a good thing as a result.
And they almost always vote Trump/GOP because they have positioned themselves as the law & order party opposite the Democrats, whose position as the civil liberties party also sets themselves up as the anti-law enforcement party.
It’s basically just trolling the Left and/or signaling to the fearful old farts.
Incompetent, corrupt governments have been called “governments” in the past. Likewise, administrations.
No need to go to such efforts to find a MinTruth approved doubleplusgood neologism when we have one that has served that purpose before. Modifying adjectives are, of course, acceptable as well
TBF, a lot of people don’t understand the whole judicial system and assume because someone got caught by the cops that they’re guilty. Innocent until proven guilty is not something that the “tough on crime” set understands.
That’s why so many seem to feel like Flock cameras are a good idea, AND why so many seem to think that letting people go on bail is somehow unjust and people are skipping out on punishment.
Neither of which is true; pre-trial detainment isn’t punishment, it’s guaranteeing that you’ll show up for your trial, which is why bail is allowed.
Sure, but the vast majority of people are stupid and/or ignorant. And some who are neither are still not very well informed about where to get their information, and get it from highly partisan sites on the right and left.
The need to be actively centrist and blame “both sides” is another malignant and deeply ingrained American trait. And it does happen to exist on both the left and right
I never said they were sources of misinformation. I was more implying that they’re heavily biased, and that smart people don’t rely on sources from one side of the spectrum.
