Attorney General Todd Blanche left the door open on whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) would intervene in states’ midterm elections verification processes, telling reporters Thursday there are hypothetical “scenarios” in which it could block the certification of votes.
“Yes, of course there’s scenarios that we can all come up with hypothetically, you know, some doomsday scenario for example, right?” he said. “So, I don’t think it’s proper to make any kind of conclusory statements about what’s going to happen in the future, because I have no idea what’s happening in the future.”

“The war would have been over in one day,” Trump said. But he said the unnamed general, “who probably isn’t with us any more,” then “decided to hang a right onto the farmland and then take a left to Kyiv,” and got tanks stuck in the mud instead of staying on the highway and conquering the Ukrainian capital.

The administration is also rolling out a $25 million whistleblower initiative called the Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program, or WHIP, announced by Trump and Vice President JD Vance . The Justice Department will run the program, allowing people to report suspected fraud through the government’s designated reporting website. Under the plan, tipsters whose information leads to criminal charges could receive between $10,000 and $30,000, according to the Justice Department. Trump said he hoped the financial incentive would “keep a lot of people honest.”
Licensing data reviewed by CBS News did not fully support Shirley’s claims. Records dated Dec. 30, 2025, showed that only two of the childcare centers examined lacked active licenses, while state inspectors had checked the facilities that remained open within the previous six months. Inspectors had flagged numerous problems, from sanitation and safety concerns to faulty equipment and gaps in employee training. Yet despite those findings, the records contained no documented proof of fraudulent activity.

Referring to Trump, who was standing next to him on stage, Mitchell said: "They’ve never given you the Nobel Peace Prize by the way, which is a disgrace. So what I came up with, Mr President, is a new award: it’s called the Man of the Century award. It’s the Man of the Century award.

Donald Trump is hanging out to dry a former adviser who is now the subject of a Justice Department inquiry.
Trump, before flying to a midterm rally in Iowa, spoke at the White House about the inquiry into Corey Lewandowski, who was the top adviser to then-Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem until their March ouster. Lewandowksi, 53, is alleged to have profited from his role, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. He denies the claims.
“No, I don’t know about it. I mean, I heard something about it. But I don’t know exactly what it is. All I know is, I want my people to be honest, and if they’re not going to be honest, they have to be prosecuted,” Trump, 80, said. “I don’t know about specifically, but—because I view it [if] people are not honest, they’re stealing from me, as president. They’re stealing from me. So, I want my people to be honest, and if they’re not honest, I’ll have my DOJ go and do whatever they have to do.”

PENDLETON — The blue-shirted protester who in viral video footage is shown being punched and then escorted out by police during President Donald Trump’s campaign rally said he went to the hospital for neck injuries and called Trump his “best witness” in any law enforcement effort to identify and charge those involved.
The morning following the Oct. 21 rally near Clemson University’s campus, Matthew McDaniel told The Post and Courier that one man put him in a chokehold while another punched him.
McDaniel said his description of the two men was general — “basically a middle-aged man wearing a red hat and another guy.” But he believes it wouldn’t be difficult to identify them, even in a large crowd, because of widespread video recordings and Trump’s commentary in which he praised the person who threw a punch and asked him to identify himself.
“In terms of a witness, he’s actually my best witness,” McDaniel said of the president. “I mean, he describes in detail what happened, and I would say it’s probably one of the few times I’ve ever seen him actually tell the truth.”
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating the complaint.

“I don’t know who’s going to be your next president,” Trump said. “And I think the law says, I’m not 100 percent sure, but I think the law says that I’m not allowed to run again.”
Trump then acknowledged that he had examined the restriction and found little ambiguity.
“I’ve studied that phrase forever,” the 80-year-old said. “Unfortunately, it’s quite concise. There’s not a lot of wiggle room.”
But moments later, Trump suggested he nevertheless had grounds to seek the presidency again because of his continued false claim that the 2020 election was stolen from him.
“They cheated us on the second one because we won it three times, so I think I have the right to run again. I think I have the right to run again because they cheated.”
He continued: “They rigged the election. They rigged that.”

The worst of the damage he’s done is he’s shown the entire world the United States cannot be trusted, cannot be an actual ally. It was bad enough the first go-around, but the people of the country gave him another shot at destroying the country’s reputation. That shows the rest of the world that it is the people of the country, as a whole, who cannot be trusted as an ally. And that is permanent damage. It will never change, not in our lifetimes, nor in a century from now. That’s on the interational stage.
On the domestic stage, he got away with his attempt to overthrow an election he lost. For well over a year now, he’s been sending in miltiary to select places. The real reason he’s doing that is to show those places he’s in control. Do you really think he’s not going to attempt to overthrow next month’s election? He’s aready started! And in two years, when the office of president is up for grabs, it’s not that much of a question if he’s going to try for it. Again, he’s already started! That damage is permanent.
I hope you’re right about the rest of the stuff, but, as I predicted years ago, people are dead because of him. For them, that damage is permanent.

Military review boards in the Navy and Marine Corps have recommended retaining service members diagnosed with gender dysphoria in most cases despite President Donald Trump’s executive order barring them from serving, The New York Times reported Friday.
The boards have recommended retaining transgender personnel in nine of 12 cases, an unexpected development as the Trump administration works to restore military readiness standards and eliminate policies it says undermine combat effectiveness.
According to the Times, Navy boards voted to retain sailors in seven of nine cases, while Marine Corps boards recommended keeping two of three service members.

First Lady Melania Trump has been accused of trying to steal credit from the pope for securing a ceasefire in Ukraine.
The White House announced the agreement with great fanfare Friday, with President Donald Trump praising Melania for the move. A ceasefire confined to the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky will begin Oct. 29 to allow humanitarian aid in and prepare evacuations, according to a statement from the first lady.
She called the city’s situation “dire” and “on the brink of disaster,” noting that the primarily elderly residents who remained were in urgent need of medical attention.
“It was abundantly clear that without my intervention, the possibility to bring humanitarian aid into the city and to evacuate the elderly would be impossible,” Melania wrote, without mentioning Pope Leo XI.
When asked how it happened, Trump said the ceasefire was Melania’s initiative, contacting “both sides, and both sides wanted to do it.”
“What she wants to do is save children,” Trump said. “She’s doing a very good job.”
Contrary to their claim that the first lady herself made the ceasefire happen, however, the Vatican told Reuters that Pope Leo XIV had called Putin and “asked him to arrange a ceasefire to let aid and food into the town” on Oct. 16.
The Kremlin had also announced the pope’s outreach to the Russian leader, saying in a statement on Oct. 16 that Putin had agreed to “cooperate” with efforts to “create the conditions necessary” to make sure Oleshky residents are safe and provided with “vital supplies.”
The Vatican’s secretary of state, Pietro Parolin, said the ceasefire was the pope’s initiative.

Los Angeles (AP) — Federal prosecutors sent letters to county registrars across California on Friday demanding that local officials set aside and verify ballots that the Department of Justice said may belong to noncitizens , according to the Los Angeles County registrar and a letter obtained by The Associated Press.
The letters are the latest escalation in a legal battle between California and President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice, which has recently focused on the state in its efforts to root out noncitizen voting ahead of the midterm elections. Data shows illegal voting by people who aren’t U.S. citizens is incredibly rare , difficult to prove and has not been shown to change the outcome of races.
Earlier this month, the federal government targeted Los Angeles County and the California Secretary of State’s office in a lawsuit that aimed to block them from counting the votes of roughly 20,000 people who are “likely” noncitizen voters. A hearing on the case is scheduled for Tuesday.
The Trump administration asked the 9th Circuit court of appeals to rule on the lawsuit barring a decision from the district judge assigned to the case. They set a deadline for Saturday.
Now, according to the LA County registrar’s office, at least 18 counties across the state have received similar letters. They have been given a 48 hour deadline to provide identifying information corresponding with ballots that the federal government believes were sent to noncitizens illegally registered to vote. The letter requests that county officials also sequester any ballots where citizenship cannot be verified.
