The Unofficial Start of Summer MMP

Home early - those of us who didn’t get 59 minutes last Friday got to take it today, so yay!

And it’s official - the separation incentive pay has been offered and I’ve initiated my paperwork. Assuming no glitches, I’ll be officially retired in 8 weeks - 30 July, to be exact. It’s not quite sunk in yet… So I’ve got 8 weeks to get old files in order, shred some stuff, an bring stuff home. I started today with the walking shoes that I kept in my locker.

I think I’m ready, but like any change, it’s scary. especially the part when my income is cut to about a third of what it is now. But eventually, I expect to work at least part-time, and who knows - maybe it’s the beginning of my pottery empire!

{{{**Bumba **Fambly}}}

Weather is gorgeous today - mid-70s, breeze, low humidity - I left the house open, and I’m glad I did. Just glorious.

I have a load of unders in the washer. I may also do a load of jeans. Or not. Who knows? I’m a rebel that way.

I’m very happy for you, FCM. I’m also a little jealous. Although I have lots of years, I just don’t have the age. I’ll have 28 years in service come September.

I’ve renewed my car registration and tabs. I have a hair appointment at 2:00 and I’ll have to pick up a few groceries. I also picked up some cash for my son. He’s taking a girl to the U2 concert in Seattle tomorrow and his bank account is pretty anemic since he hasn’t been getting much in the way of hours at work.

The sun is out, but it’s not exactly toasty. It’s pretty breezy outside too.

I hope your MiL is doing better today, Bumba.

We went to Capt Leonard’s for supper - I love their crabcakes. I’s now stuffded!

Off to knit and chill. Laterz!!!

Stuff I forgot during the week:

Good thoughts and prayers headed out for your MIL,** Bumba**.

Hope week 1 wasn’t too awfully horrible, Soapy. Sorry about the FB incident; gotta wonder what’s going on in some of those teenage minds.

How’d the rest of your week go, LiLi?

Clearly they don’t realize how valuable this place is, Nava. How’s the hotel? Are you going to be able to stay there long term?

Congrats on the retirement prospects, FCM! At least you don’t have the suspense from not knowing whether it’s really going to be possible anymore.

I had an interesting little adventure today.

I was running late and decided to drive part of the way in and then walk. Imagine my surprise when I went back at the end of the day - and…no car!

Because, as everyone knows, one can’t park on that side of the street from 8:00-10:00 a.m. on the first and 3rd Friday’s of the month from April to October (srsly). Did I read the sign this morning? Why, no, I didn’t. Instead, I vaguely remembered something about not being able to park there certain Tuesdays. Fortunately my friend is a kind soul who volunteered to bring me home so that I could find out where the impound lot was, get required stuff, and take me to the lot so that my weekend didn’t get too messed up.

And it turns out that they have a very nice phone service that will confirm that they have your car, tell you what you need to bring, and - gulp - tell you how much you owe. $203 in my case. Also, the clerk was very nice AND knowledgeable. I made it there and back in less than an hour.

Live and learn.

On a more amusing note, my extremely snerkable fortune from lunch:

The life of every woman or man - the heart of it - is pure and holy joy.

Now I’m just waiting for brother and nephew to get home so that we can go to Noodles & Co for dinner.

Hope everyone is having a relaxing Friday.

Hugs.

GT

** <snerk> IN BED! <snerk>**

Also, sucks about the impound but at least gettin’ your vehicle back wasn’t a real PITA.

Congrats MOOOOOOM! When you retire you can bake us cookies!

Salmon patties, English peas, smashed N.O.T. and bizkits for dindin cause I was in the mood and also got sad puppy dog eyes from OYKW yestiddy to make that. He gets me with that every time.

Oh, I don’t have to irk tomorrow! YAY!!! It was decided that it was just not worth the effort to be at that particular doin’s. So, instead, POOL TIME!!!111 JDD and Partner and MOG are comin’ over for chill time at the pool. They’ve also got the beer and tequila covered. I’m told tomorrow we go to Margaritaville.

Now where’d I put that salt shaker…

DUH! The salt shaker is lost, Swampy! It’s over there wasting away in Margueritaville! :stuck_out_tongue:

I made the sad mistake of getting involved in a pit thread. :o

Parents are off line-dancing. I should get up and have dinner and clean my room so I can walk in it again.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 101! Oh and there is a “chance” of late afternoon/early evenin’ tstorms. Again, no breath holdin’ on my part. Matter of fact I have the sprinkler on waterin’ the back yahd cause it looks kinda pitiful. Le sigh.

I also have brats (the edible kind not the human kind) soakin’ in beer. Dindin shall be beer brats, hot dawgs, coleslaw and chips. Easy enough. Course that means I need to make coleslaw which is no prob due to the wonder of my KitchenAid stand mixer with the handy dandy chopper attachment. I lurve that thing!

Should I blame a woman or is it my own damn fault? :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, enough of this. I suppose I should seek more caffiene, feed rumbly tummy some cereal and milk, then make the slaw. Oh, and remember to like check the sprinkler in a few minutes. Hopefully I won’t do my famous trick of only waterin’ half the yahd. I’ve been known to do that. :smack:

Up, caffeinated, off to irk. 3 more days.

Goood luck with the retirement, Moooommmmm.

Sorry about your car, gt.

Swampy, surely you know by now that it’s always some woman’s fault? In the case of margaritas, I am more than happy to take the blame!

It is hot and sunny over here today, quite a shock after the less than summery week we’ve had but I will out making the most of it before the promised 10 degree drop in temperatures tomorrow.

It’s a friend’s birthday today, she’s having a party tonight so we’ll soon be off into town in search of chunks of meat to throw on a fire. Should be fun! It is also my turn not to drive, especially as our friends live fairly close by so we’ll get a cab over to their place. Another friend may also join us, she only lives a few minutes away from us so we can share a cab from here.

No doubt by tomorrow I will be regretting any decisions made with the help of Auntie Smirnoff, but today I’m quite happy about the idea!

Coleslaw is made and livin’ in da fridge. Also, we have a revised weather forecast. The high will now be only 97! BRRRRRR!!!

Up, dressed and off to the boat. More later!!!

Up, almost ready to go garden at a friend’s for a couple of hours. (She’s got a broken shoulder and can’t do much for a while…)

Back later…

GT

I am now in appropriate pool attire. I agonize over such things you know.

I’m up and caffienating. The sun is out and we’re supposed to reach temps of around 75 degrees. At least that was last night’s forecast.

I plan on doing some yard work for part of the day. We’re heading over to some friends’ house to BBQ this evening. I’m bringing my pasta salad over as my contribution.

That’s pretty much it for me.

another lovely spring day on the Guylindt.

Well, they were wrong. After flying MIL in a helicopter 100 miles in the middle of the night, booking an OR, assembling OR staff and dragging a scared old lady into said OR, did I mention “in the middle of the night”?, they (at OHSU) discovered that it wasn’t necrotizing fasciitus. She does have an open wound that won’t heal and a horrible infection, but not in the muscle or bone. So they debrided(sp?) the wound and put her to bed and sent her back to the hospital in Springfield in an ambulance yesterday. I can’t even imagine what all this cost. The state’s paying for it at least. Ima give all you credit for her not having the really bad stuff after all. Thank you.
I shoulda posted the news last night, but it was Artwalk in our little town and I was busy. Please forgive.

We’re at the Public Market today so I’m typing kinda slow, so to all you fast readers, I apologize. :stuck_out_tongue:

did I tell you I got a Kindle last week? We’ve been kinda intrigued by all the e-readers lately, so when Woot.com had refurbed Kindles on sale I got one. Not sure what I’m gonna do with it, but I’ll have fun playing with it for a while.

Later.

So…

Last night was Friday night, which means Happy Hour for Rebo. I picked up some BBQ for dinner and left it on the kitchen counter before leaving for Al’s Sports Bar.

A few minutes after arriving, I get a call from Dad. “How much bbq did you buy?” I had bought 1/2 lb of ribs, a 1/2 lb of brisket, and 1/2 lb of smoked sausage.

It seems Lucy had helped herself to some of the meat. Exactly 1/2 lb of sausage and 1/2 lb of ribs. Including bones.

I had to go buy more meat for dinner.

:frowning:

Obviously I didn’t feed her dinner last night, but the two little dogs didn’t eat their dinner. I’m hoping they at least got a share of the spoils.

Bumba, while I’m sorry your MiL had to go through all of that trauma, I’m very glad it wasn’t what they thought it was.

I lived in Springfield while my Dad was in Vietnam. I lived there with my grandparents and my mother on A street.

It is getting rather toasty outside. I’m not complaining.

I got a Kindle Christmas before last. I love it. It’s rather handy at airports and just to read at home, especially if what you’re reading is a big, thick book. Much lighter. I find that I tend to read faster when reading a Kindle too. I’m not a slow reader to begin with, but I read even faster on the Kindle. Finally, the books are less expensive, and there’s lots of free books to download too.

Back, and glad to be in the cool. It was hot on the boat, especially when we were working on deck. But the sail cover is looking good and I can finish most of it tonight. We should be able to install it tomorrow. I just ordered some burgundy trim to go along the edge, but I can add that easily when it comes in. My sewing machine is light enough that I can take it to the boat easily.

Daughter locked her keys in her running car while we were down there, so **FCD **had to come home, get her spare key, and take it to her. Dumb kid… And her idiot bf was hiding to avoid **FCD **when he showed up. I’ll be so glad when she sees him for what he is and dumps his ass… It chokes me not to say what I think of him every time I see her.

That’s all for now. It’s about 80 here, but it’s 73 in the house, and with assorted fans going, it’s quite pleasant and I don’t have to turn on the air yet. Yay!

Seven weeks and six days to retirement.

PS - Yay, Bumba!!!
