The Walking Dead; 3.04 "Killer Within" (open spoilers)

Agreed. Well, not the comfort with necropsies - I get woozy when I can’t get an earring in on the first try, but the other stuff, yes. Sometimes when I get a flipping massage, she hits a spot that hurts enough I have to steel myself not to jerk away. Holding still while someone slices through your skin, fascia, and muscle isn’t really feasible.

I did think the actress did a nice job both with her death speech and the screaming in pain though. Short of being able to thrash about, she did a good job selling that she was being cut open!

…not to mention Bombur, Bofur, Bifur, and Balin.

never forget biden and palin!

They’ve been putting bullets in the brains of walkers for these past few months not into the brains of the living. Putting Johnny Walker down isn’t the same as putting down a living breathing human being you care about. I might hold on to some tiny shred of hope that my actions won’t kill my friend. I can’t hold onto that shred of hope if I shoot them in the head. I’m not saying it’d be wrong to put someone down in the same situation. Just that I understand why someone would be incapable of doing so.

Especially one’s own mother. Heck, even Shaun had to kill his own mother.

Regarding Carl, and whether Lori’s alive, it would have been one thing if we’d even seen Carl put his gun to her head. Since we never actually saw anything, I’m inclined to say that he didn’t do it.

Maybe he didn’t say anything because he didn’t want Rick to get all…Rick. Maybe he thought that his mom wouldn’t been able to get out of that room (door too high after she was ripped in half, maybe?). Or maybe, since he’s a kid, he was still holding out hope that she wouldn’t reanimate.

Did he hear that they all carry the virus? Or did he not know that, and so didn’t shoot his mother.

So, for those of you who think that Carl didn’t put one in Lori’s head: what’s the dramatic purpose for it? From a storytelling point of view, what will that accomplish in the next episode?

I’m pretty sure this was meant to be Carl’s Old Yeller moment; they’ve made an effort to show some maturity from him this season, even if he is still reckless. So my money’s on no zombie Lori. Maybe they’ll have a retrieval and burial/burning just to spell it out for the fan base.

But the writers do have a record of creating drama by having characters do unlikely, out of character, stupid things. So if they want to crank up the awfulness of the situation just a bit more, they could have had Carl fake it. I hope not, it would feel cheap and melodramatic. Well, more cheap and melodramatic than the episode already was.

Well in the promo, Glen and the convicts were digging three graves. From the speech he gave, for sure Lori and T-Dog are going in two of them so Lori is down for the count even if Carl missed. So there could be a dramatic moment when they go to retrieve Lori’s body only to find out she is a walker and someone else has to put her down.

I personally think the baby is going in grave #3 and that Carol is alive.

Personally I don’t even see it as a dramatic moment to see someone come back as a walker. That’s just what happens. Now if you didn’t know they were dead, like Sophia, it could be a shock. But knowing a person you know is dead is a walker? Kinda unsettling but who really cares?

Why would the baby get it’s own full sized grave? If it died before Lori was buried they’d just bury it with her (this is standard practice when both mother & infant die at same time). Otherwise it’d get a very small grave.

Is it possible that Carol was already in the room when Lori, Carl, & Maggie arrived? Maybe she was curled up in a ball, traumatized by seeing T-Dawg getting ripped apart & possibly having delivered a coup de grace to prevent him from turning.

Maybe she comes around in time to deflect Carl’s shot & tells him to leave everything to her. She will either save Lori or put her down herself. Remember, Carol was practicing to perform the C-section.

Just thought of this : how incredibly awesome would it be if Lori came back as a walker, Rick cuts off her arms and lower jaw, chains her up and uses her as a pet/protector like Michonne did?

Maybe the third grave is for Carol when they find her.

I’m fairly sure that the reason they didn’t show Carl shooting Lori is because that was a thing they shy away from showing blatantly on TV. I’ve noticed that the show has no problems wallowing around in gore, but some of the more awful psychological stuff that happened in the comic’s been skipped over or very much softened - including Lori’s original death.

Can you post in a spoiler box how Lori died in the comics?

Yeah, 'cause Carl just isn’t mentally fucked up enough yet.

IIRC

She was shot in the back by one of the women from Woodbury, and landed on her baby.

No idea, but I’ll bet a week of my morning cup of coffee that Carol is alive and well. My beloved T-Dog did not die in vain. Sniff.

Shot in the back while fleeing an invasion from another group of survivors - the bullet went through her and then through the infant she was carrying. The person who shot her (a woman) is quite freaked out by having shot a baby.

I have been told that it is possible for a non-mother to breast feed a baby. Wasn’t that essentially what a “wet nurse” was?

When the baby wasn’t a zombaby, this ^^^ is what I thought

I reckon that if a hoarde of walkers was about to start chomping on me, I’d learn how to shoot straight PDQ!
