The Walking Dead; 4.10 "Inmates" (open spoilers)

There’s plenty of fodder for complaints about these characters’ stupidity and lack of foresight, but I’m not entirely sure their reluctance to murder an infant qualifies.

There was so much Idiot Plot in this one, it was painful.

Beth sure sings well for a deaf person! (Seriously, the writers’ attempts to have zombies sneak up and/or ambush people are becoming more and more desperate and stupid. And that’s saying something.)

I understand the railroad lingo and why it’s “Terminus,” but I couldn’t help picturing the citizens’ whiteboard as they brainstormed names for their sanctuary from the apocalypse:

[del]Final Reward
Passaway
Repose
Serenity
Requiem[/del]
Ah, got it - Terminus!

It also occurs to me that Michonne roamed all over the state looking for the Governor, and still managed to miss Terminus.

“Come To Our Community So We Can Enslave and Murder You” - too on the nose?

Do we know she’s dead? Or is she just another one of the missing? I’ve lost track.

I want them out on the road for a while before we fall into another single location for too long of a time. I think there’s a better dynamic for the survival aspect of the show if they are out moving from place to place than if they hunker down. I find the “survival” aspect of the show more interesting than the “good versus evil” spiral we fell into while in the prison.

I wish TWD was more like “The Road” than it is.

When they were at Herschel’s farm there was absolutely no other place to go also.

Her sister said she saw her mobbed by walkers. Since she wasn’t wearing Glen’s armor, she’s dead, Fred.

If I’ve got myself in an apparently secure location with food, it would be nuts to go wandering around looking for a new secure location. Especially with ninja walkers sneaking up on you all the time.

As long as they can pull a bottle of formula out of the Magic Giving Backpack they should be okay.

Which reminds me, someone questioned this on Talking and the host quickly shut them down. I realize that Talking exists to promote Walking, but it would be a more interesting show if they were allowed to question and address some of the lazy writing and outright stupidity, especially if show producers, directors and writers are there to respond.

Ooh! I haven’t watched this week’s Talking Dead, but I’ve always wondered about this. I assume they screen to only have positive comments rather than people pointing out obvious stupidity.

Other dumbness that annoyed me in this episode:

  • When letting the zombies out of the bus, a walker starts bearing down on Maggie. Bob, from behind the walker, shoots it through the eye. Wouldn’t it be a bad idea to shoot a walker when your buddy is directly on the other side of it?

  • The child’s shoe thing still pisses me off. They show the child’s black high top shoe attached to some gore, implying that it came from the fresh kill the zombies were munching on. Then they show that Mika was wearing the same shoe, implying that she was the one getting munched on. They reveal that she walks away towards terminus safely shod. Where did the child’s shoe come from?

  • What was up with the Larry Bird looking guy (not that I agree that he really was Larry Bird looking, but whatever). First, his group gets into a scrape with a few walkers and they are totally incompetent at fighting them off on their own. Tyreese shows up, so Larry Bird becomes a spectator, standing there half crouched in an action pose long enough for a walker to sneak up on him from behind. Finally, he doesn’t seem particularly affected by having had a big bite taken out of his neck – at least, he shows absolutely no pain or functional impact resulting from the experience.

  • Why didn’t Carol and company take the weapons that the other little band of walker fodder had been armed with?

  • Since when did walkers become attracted to fire? Seriously, the Molotov cocktail trick lured them away. Pro tip – set up bonfires around your perimeter. Walkers will be drawn to them and catch themselves on fire. Except that I seem to recall a walker ignoring an open fire (actually walking through it) to try to get after the Governor, so maybe they are only attracted to fire when it’s a burning car?

Also, the shades of Woodbury II, with Sgt. Bull Randleman rolling up at the end was just annoying. Further, as others have already noted, this joint existed within spitting distance of the prison. Surely Michonne came across it during her exhaustive searches for the Governor. One has to assume that she just never mentioned it because this show is full of characters who keep fundamental knowledge from one another for no good reasons.

They might do that once.

Yeah the girl said she saw her sister get swarmed and taken down on the field, and that she wasn’t even supposed to be there.

“Oh yeah, I knew Terminus was there - I just didn’t mention it because no one asked me a direct question about it.”

I agree it stretches credibility to have a whole new refuge within walking distance from the prison that they never heard of before. They should have figured out a way to let them get some distance to make it more believable.

Ladies and gentlemen, let us try to keep the anger levelin these discussions down.

Actually, those three characters (Abraham, Rosita and Eugene) are from the books and met up with Rick and company sometime after the prison debacle. They are good guys. The show is starting to get awfully crowded with alpha males…

But yes, there was a whole lotta dumbness going on. Argh.

Could you keep the spoilers out of here?

The baby is strategically poor but once it’s there would you be able to kill it? We’re not all Lizzie crazy.

Hey, we haven’t shot anyone in these discussions yet!

I think one of the ground rules we’ve established for the Walking Dead tv show threads is to pretend that the comic books don’t even exist - we’ve had far too many tv threads hijacked with comic book discussions that a whole bunch of us tv watchers don’t give the slightest little rat’s ass about.

I don’t mind spoilers, TV or comic. I’ve not seen it, we will watch it this evening.
Doesn’t the thread title mention spoilers? I rather expect them once the program has aired.

Spoilers for the tv show, he spoiled stuff that hasn’t been shown before. In fact it was the cliffhanger ending of the episode basically.
