The Walking Dead; 5.12 "Remember" (open spoilers)

I actually wanted to comment on something else but others had already done it better. A small correction was all I could offer at the time. I should have specified what the spoiler was about.

Either way Carl’s going to start thinking with Carl Jr and let her lead him into a disastrous situation that almost get’s him killed, and almost surely results in the deaths of others.

As for the kids; one of the boys Carl was with mentioned there are “little kids” who go the makeshift school in the mornings.

She just needs to force Darryl into a shower (at gunpoint if necessary), and he can put on the clean clothes she lays out for him afterward or just walk around naked. Actually forget I said about laying out clean clothes for him.

Which raises questions of it’s own. Why was Northern Virginia singled out for a massive civilian evacuation? And more importantly how did the military actually manage to pull that off? :dubious: Where did they all go?

Also if she was a congresswoman is anybody going to bother asking if she has any clue what happened to the federal government? Did they try & evacuate Congress to whatever bunker replaced the Greenbrier? Granted she’d probably refuse rather than leave her husband & kids. I rolled my eyes when she said she was on her back to Ohio to help her district get through the crisis. Did anyone not take that as “I needed photo ops in case the world doesn’t end and I have to run for re-election”.

Now that you mention it I can’t help but see that. Hopefully she’ll get the karmic death Janeway managed to avoid.

It’s an accurate statement; just think for a second wow female wolves reach if their cubs are threatened. Carol is they most dangerous member of the group and it’s precisely because she’s so good with the weak & helpless act.

I loved this episode. This is exactly what I want the show to become. I really hope Alexandria is as it seems (and I think it is). Differences of opinions and how best to restart society would be more interesting than some bull shit “secret”.

I am enjoying that it is basically setting up the main character to essentially be villains because they are so shell shocked they can’t reintegrate into society. Alexandria isn’t “weak”. The entire point of civilization is that humanity doesn’t have to spend all of its time getting food and safety. Jobs are shared so that people have time and energy to accomplish other things. What they are calling weak is also known as “society”. Is the place perfect? No? Could it be improved? I am sure. That is why they want new blood. That brings in fresh ideas to benefit everyone. Rick seems to be glossing over the fact that they survived just as long as his group did, albeit in a different way. It will be interesting to see where this goes.

A few more thoughts:

  1. Carol is the best. So smart. I rewatched the premiere of Season 2 recently and the difference in her is amazing.

  2. Rick’s totally going to bang Haircut Girl and her Husband is not going to like it.

  3. I love how they are having Darryl deal with this. Before the zombies he was a loser in the shadow of his awful brother. The end of the World made him into a man and a good person but down deep he thinks he is still that loser. Bring civilization back and he doesn’t know what to do with himself because he thinks that loser is who he will become again.

  4. So is Enid (played, by the way, by one of the Cast of Characters from too Many Cooks!) just a rambunctious girl going through a similar shell shock or is she a scout for a rival group?

  5. I got the impression last week that Aaron goes out and finds people to add to their town and it is a relatively common occurrence but some things this week made it seem like they only have done this a twice before with Enid and Rick’s group.

Did they say Enid had been there for a few weeks or a few months? If weeks, I could buy the scout story…but still why wait that long to raid them? You’d think after a few days she’s report back or hide a note under a rock or whatever and say “oh yeah, come and get 'em”.

I think this is ultimately going to be a real weakness of this plot-- Aaron had clearly been watching and following the group for a while–without any notice by the group. A group that includes super tracker Daryl. That to me initially implied that Aaron and maybe his group was really savvy at this kind of thing (stalk and recruit). After this episode that really doesn’t seem like the case.

The thing that was clear is that they only go out and find others when needed -

Douche ROTC guy -> Glen – “you all are only here because we lost 4 last week”.

I was just wondering if it’s significant there hasn’t been a newborn since the ZA. Judith could have been conceived before, and everyone now could be sterile or something?

But Aaron was following the group for three weeks wasn’t he? I think he just meant being allowed to go out on supply runs.

RIP hobo mountain man Rick.

Carol could’ve said she’s good at dealing with problem children.

Prepare for maximum teenage romance angst. I’m queuing up Evanescence.

I think we wondered about that a few weeks ago, but I forget what the consensus was. If there haven’t been any babies born in the last, let’s say 12 months to allow for any conceptions before the Zombie Apocalypse (ZA), then they have a serious problem.

Oh, please, no.

Admiral Janeway. :dubious:

Good point.

Hell, she murders the weak and helpless.

I enjoyed it but ------- considering these people seem almost idiotically unrumpled for survivors, how the hades did they survive? IOt has to be more than just good walls. Other had better walls.

Didn’t Darryl mumble a few episodes ago, “Ah thought Ah heard somethin’?”

Don’t jump on me, Ah mumble like that early in tha mornin’.

I thought he meant that they only had them on their excursion because the four people died not that they let them in at all.

How could Aaron have been following the group for ‘weeks’ if they only just made it to VA ‘recently’ - wasn’t it a dead run from GA to VA to get to Noah’s home area?

Granted, time fly’s (or doesn’t) on this show as needed.

I can see it going either way - I took it as to why they allowed Rick’s group in ‘at all’…

Watching this excellent episode, I kept thinking about the movie “The Village”, where little snippets and details of people’s histories were talked about - only to come together in the end as the main plot to try to build a utopia of a simpler and safer time.

The inclusion and exclusion of some details I found to be very interesting:

The lack of adult men - well, really, the lack of people over all - especially since Deanna said that survivors came and helped build the walls.

The walls seemingly being built backwards.

The three men that were exiled.

The four people that died on the patrol.

No mention of Deanna’s husband and Aiden’s father.

Aiden being ROTC, but not being conscripted to help fight the apocalypse at the beginning.

It’s certainly not unusual for politicians to travel, but if they were going back to Ohio and got stopped in Virginia, then they had to be coming from some place like the Carolinas. Both Alexandria and New Alexandria are on the wrong side of DC if the congresswoman was traveling from DC to Ohio.

I usually don’t put much stock into shows throwing out random details, but these details seemed to be very specific and engineered.

I can’t remember now. I thought they stopped at Noah’s place in South Carolina, then headed off for DC when their vehicle broke down and they had to walk.

Well - that’s the other thing - they specifically mentioned they had only expanded the radius to 50 miles for thier runs - it’s doubtful that Rick’s crew has been within that zone for weeks.

Its a minor nitpick - this was a better episode and atleast we’re back to wondering abit about what will happen next.

Eight months.

Alexandria is weak because it’s a society like our society. Our society is absolutely weak in terms of a zombie apocalypse. That’s why it crumbled.

One thing I did notice was a lack of Minorities in the native Alexandria population. Until Deanna offered Michonne a job I thought maybe that was by design and would be a plot point but it seems it was just a coincidence.

WOO HOO! They finally found a stroller for Judith!! Damn… and a playpen!

We gotta pray the stroller survives so they can stop carrying her around.

My gut feeling is the walls are reinforced from the outside intentionally to keep people in, not out.

I’m wondering whether their defense strategy is to let potential raiders in, and ambush them eventually.

The girl definitely has Rick’s gun.
