And for those to whom this is only vaguely familiar, Betsy is who David wrote the note to and tried to give to Michonne. Michonne refused, so Betsy never got her note.
At this point Glenn has to be alive. The way they are being coy about it would be shitty if a character who has been there since the beginning was really killed off.
to the fans it seems shitty - only because we want him to both be alive (we like him) and dead (no way even ‘he’ should survive this particular mess).
In story - it makes perfect sense - its a dangerous world - they were on a particularly dangerous run and alot of things (well, damn near everything) wen’t sideways - in story, you don’t always get to find out what happens to the people on these runs.
The novel Zone One by Coulson Whitehead handled this very well.
The main character - nicknamed Mark Spitz - meets up with another survivor and they end up developing a sexual possibly romantic relationship and winter together. One day she goes out on a supply run and never comes back. He waits a few days and then moves on himself and that’s the end of it. He doesn’t try to find her, he doesn’t “need to know” because that’s not how you survive a zombie apocalypse.
Wouldn’t you prefer to out with a bang?
So was Deanna’s eldest son Spencer.
I believe Deanna changed because she’s lost her husband to a drunk, has been forced to confront the deadly, bloody reality that is the ZA, and realized that her dream for the future of Alexandria has not been realistic. What this community really needs is a good cheese-making, forensic physiatrist (but they killed him off).
While Deanna realizes that she’s ill-equipped for physical fighting, she did attempt to use her skills to organize the Alexandrian farm crops. She’s doing what she can.
I’ll propose a new twist. The writers/director released actor/crew photos to ET (Entertainment Tonight) showing Glenn with a not-yet-introduced character. Assumptions are made by the fans. The editors then edit Glenn’s character out of all future episodes. With multiple, out-of-sequence scheduled scene shoots, and digital editing, the producers/editors/writers can keep cast and crew from leaking possible storyline endings and ruining the suspense/drama/interest.
Or not.
Not too make too much of this, but the trope is not platonic bonding with a gay guy. Forming a platonic friendship with a gay guy is not “moving on”.
Plus, we already saw how that trope was broken in the first few episodes of this show.
The show is an Atlas Shrugged-esque work of philosophical fiction, and like Atlas Shrugged it’s completely in the tank for its philosophy, and is willing to sell out everything else - other characters, plot, watchability, consistency - in the name of pushing Rickism.
First of all, Rick gets back and they are surrounded by the zombies, so, he gathers up everybody and yells at them to be quite.
Then, do they gather together the people who want to fight back and come up with a plan of action to get out of there ?
Hell no, they split up into little groups and wander around like the a-holes they are.
Think what a swat team or seal team would do to these zombies.
All they would have to do is make a lot of noise on the other side of the place and escape out the other ( they have cars.)
Those sewer tunnels could be a great escape route in case of a wall failing, too bad Aaron won’t tell them about it.
Like it gets mentioned here every week, I just hate how common logic is dropped for dramatic effect!
If I was Alexandria, I’d try to send out a team to find a big Caterpillar D10 Bulldozer. The person in the cab is about 12 feet off the ground and the blade is about 8 feet tall by 14 feet wide.
If they got one of those within a couple of hours they could just bulldoze the hoard into a giant pile and take care of them with fire or something.
Then I would dig a deep dry moat large enough for a dozer to fit in, so once a week it goes through the moat and cleans out any walkers that get caught.
Also I don’t know why you don’t just get a half dozen people on the walls with .22 rifles mounted with scopes. .22 ammo should be very readily available (most outdoor places have boxes of 500+ readily available). In a week these people could probably thin the heard out by 80+%!
This is a strategy they could have used back at the prison.
MtM
I agree actually. I could see the characters never know what happens to Glenn, in theory, but the audience is a different story.
McDeath,
you are right about the .22’s. That would really cut down on the weight of the ammo too.
That will never happen because it’s cooler to have a cannon. Look at Rick with his trusty six shooter.
A nice little .22 or .25 would be great for close up work.
You, also, would think they would try to get more appropriate vehicles. Anything would be better than what they get from the sponsor’s. They could, at least put something over the windows, like bars. Chicken wire would be a step in the right direction.
One does hope they closed all the doors and traps on the way back.
So - what was Diane’s point of smacking the front gate? Showing zee army that she is not afraid, taunting them?
Does she not realize that’s about all the extra stimulus that it might take to have them come crushing thru the weakest point of the perimeter?
(of course she doesn’t but — )
I thought Maggie was inconsistent. The run up to Terminus, and her believing that Glenn was alive, and now not even a day into the worst day in Alexandrias history, she is already putting his name up on the in memory of.
Declan
I don’t believe it was Maggie who wrote Glenn’s name on the wall. There were other people doing that. I believe Maggie later began removing Glenn’s name and Aaron was beginning to remove Nicholas’s name.
this is correct -
