Cold? It’s 67° INSIDE our house at the moment, and I’m quite comfy. Who knew you were such a wuss!!!
I believe there is a difference between a bundt pan and a tube pan. A bundt pan has ridges and troughs around it so that it’s decorative when it comes out. A tube pan usually has a detachable base and center portion for easy removal, and it’s smooth and tubular. Unless it’s a special pan that one uses when riding the London Underground…
We’ll be leaving in about 4 hours. We’ve got to hook up the trailer, then load my sister’s scooter aboard, tie it down, and cover it against road salt and crap. We need to pack the bag of knitted items, a decorative tin that belongs to my mom, my travel clothes hanger that my sister wants to borrow, the carrots, the b-sprouts, the spices, etc to prepare said veggies, Higgs and her treats, and probably other stuff that I’ll forget. I want to get on the road around 10 in the hopes of missing some of the worst traffic. Plus I need to do some cooking at Mom’s. Dinner at 2-ish. I think she said there’d be 20 of us.
So today promises to be insane. Hope everyone’s insanity is tolerable and reasonably drama-free. And heartburn-free.
Nothing else to report, survived a night out at the pub and had some very nice beer. Late night, early morning, wish I was back in bed catching up on my sleep. At least I have a lie-in tomorrow to look forward to before the great trek over to my doting parent’s place to help her celebrate being 80. Lawks! 80!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 42 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 54 for the day and sunny. Actually I think this kind of nice Turkey Day weather.
MOOOOOOM you are right. There is a difference betwixt a bundt pan and a tube pan. So there spaz, doggio etc.!
Mr. or Ms. Turkey (I did not ascertain the sex of said bird) is roastin’ away as I post. Ok, he/she has been in the oven all of fifteen minutes, but still roastage has commenced. Since everything else save the sweet N.O.T. casserole is cooked, and that will only take half an hour, warm ups will be all that’s needed to get everything ready. I can be leisurely about it all.
Rockin’ hope the tooth and back aches are better soonest! Since tooth and back aches are a kind of sick… Soft Kitty.
To all the Amurrkin Mumpers:
Happy Turkey Day!!
Yeah, I stole it. So what?
Ok, that’s all I got. I need more caffiene and rumbly tummy wants sustenance. I suppose I should make some effort to purtify. Can’t have guests showin’ up with me in my robe, sleep attire, and socks now can I? Ok, I could, but then they would all wonder why I"m dressed to go to :eek:Wally*World.
I saw the funniest description of Thanksgiving on the comments section of a soap opera comic earlier this week: The day Americans gather to celebrate genocide by stuffing stale bread up a dead bird’s butt.
To American turkeys: Sorry, this isn’t like Mothers’ day.
Seeing as I am neither American nor a turkey, and this is just Thursday for me, I should probably go do something useful. Maybe washing for starters. I shall hopefully attempt pieage later, but some eggs must be purchased before, and it appears we don’t actually have any kind of suitable pie tin, so it may depend on me finding one.
Oh, and as a bit of a themed question- do any of you know what collards are called in the YooKay? I’ve tried general searching, but so far I’ve come up with: we class it as a kind of kale, we call it spinach beet (highly doubtful), we call it bok choy (!? Looks nuttin like it), it’s just spring greens (ummm…), and finally we don’t have a name for it as you can’t get it here.
I’m a nosy person, so can anyone tell me which, if any, of those are true? Even wikipedia is unusually silent on the topic.
Thanks for the pick-me-up, Swampy. I’m nomming my oatmeal right now whilst I contemplate which to make first: The banana bread, the pumpkin bread, or the corn casserole. This is the first time Airman’s cousin has hosted Thanksgiving, so I’m trying to help out with desserts and such. None of these dishes require any real effort beyond mashing nanners, which is good because I’m taking Vicodin for the pain. I’m not high as a kite and I can be trusted with sharp objects, but I’m a bit loopy. That could also be the lack of caffeination, a situation which I must remedy soonest.
Nuts, the pile of wisdom that is Wiki tell me that the name “collard” is a corrupted form of the word “colewort” (the wild cabbage plant). So I suppose they are somehow related to cabbage. The pic associated with it looks very much like spring greens to me.
I’m showered, and mostly dressed. That is, I’ve got socially acceptable clothing upon my person, but the shirt will be exchanged for something nicer - I didn’t want to mess up a nicer shirt while prepping foods and tidying the kitchen.
**FCD **is in the basement trying to fix the tail light for my sister’s scoot - she’d broken it and he repaired it, but apparently not quite well enough, so he’s trying to make a more durable repair. I have a small cooler packed with veggies and the various items I need to complete preparation. Mom decided she wanted plain carrots, as “some people love peas and not carrots and some people love carrots and not peas.” Fine, no peas. I’ll just make glazed carrots. Easy peasy. I’ve also gathered up the various items I’m supposed to take with us. Unfortunately, we’ve got to take the truck, so I expect Higgs will be sitting upon my lap for the ride. Rah.
Slightly under 2 hours till we leave and all I have left to do is change my shirt. I should probably have some breakfast, since we’re not having dinner till 2 or so. I’m thinking egg sammich. Good plan!
Happy Thanksgiving all American Mumpers! It’s a good day to have the oven on all day. Plumb cold here. Got the collards in the slow cooker. Getting ready to get the rest going.
It’s a cloudy 35 degrees here and expected to get up to 38 later today.
There is still some snow in the backyard but none in the front.
I’ll be staying home today. I’ve been logged in at irk but it is slow as I expected it to be. Irk has been slow anyway, and I get paid by the calls I take not by the hours I irk, so slow sucks,
When I’m not irking I’ll just be hanging out watching the Twilight Zone marathon and piddling around the house. There is no end of things to do.
Mr./Ms. Turkey will be done to a turn shortly. Everything else is cooked and a heat up will be all that’s needed. I feel so domesticated! Plus since others are bringin’ other stuff, whatever needs to be re-heated won’t take long what with a regular oven, convection oven and nukulator available.
Nuts collards are related to cabbage and broccoli as I recall. That might include stuff like kale I’m thinkin’ as collards are dark green like kale. They are slightly bitter so I usually include a tsp of sugar. I also chuck in a hamhock. They are very tasty, but then again I like all greens. In the southern USofA they’re cooked as a part of “mixed greens”, which includes stuff like collards, turnip greens, mustard greens, kale, possibly spinach and other assorted greens.
Good morning, everyone, and happy Thanksgiving for those who partake. I wanted dinner last night to be as far removed from roasted turkey as possible, so I had … Baked chicken wings. :dubious: Chopped carrotonioncelery in couscous to go with it, the leftovers of which will be lunch at some point this holiday weekend.
Yay, I love getting to say that it’s the weekend on a Thursday! Whee!
I found a little (maybe inch and a half) glow in the dark alien toy while walking yesterday. It lives on the lamp on my nightstand now. Love it.
