The world laughs at Trump

Your lack of an imagination reveals a lot.

Actually the UN is nothing more or less than an organized representation of all the countries in the world. Your hostility to the entire world is rather bizarre, and even stranger is that you think all these countries hate the US because they’re jealous of it, since as Gary Kumquat alludes to in post #49, the US trails most other first-world nations in the important measures of quality of life, like outcomes in health care and education, and a peaceful crime-free society.

As for “resenting us for our freedom”, that’s another bit of unintentional hilarity right of the Bush-era neocon delusions. According to the Human Freedom Index published by the libertarian Cato Institute and other conservative think tanks, the US ranks 17th in the world in personal freedom, far behind countries like Switzerland, New Zealand, Ireland, Australia, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, and others. This is a country where major federal agencies like the NSA and the FBI spy on its own citizens, often illegally. A country with the highest incarceration rate in the world. A country where citizens distrust their own government so much that – uniquely in the first world – universal health care has not been achieved and may never be, because citizens don’t trust their own government to run health insurance or anything else. A country where citizens distrust their own government so much that they have taken it upon themselves to become the most heavily armed first-world nation on the planet, and regularly shoot each other at an alarming rate.

Yeah, I bet other advanced nations are jealous as hell!

Quite true. And the thing that was so funny was Trump’s shameless bragging that he was, like, the bestest president ever. Most of the world, like most Americans, have been laughing, too, as they would at most of your claims in this thread.

I just read the speach - actually pretty good (although not eloquent). He made his overall point very clear that from now on it is America for Americans. Now that is a message that appeals to many many people (not just Americans, there are plenty of Germans who think the same way about Germany, for example, and now their path is made a bit clearer perhaps). The only question is in whether or not what he is doing will actually be better for Americans in the long term. We will see I guess, but a good speech.

It’s always been Americans for Americans. America first. I’m agree it should be. But I disagree completely with America only. It’s good for America to help out. It good for everyone to help out everyone.

Yep. I agree. And he drew a good distinction between helping your friends but not helping your non-friends.

Problem being, he doesn’t know the difference between a friend, a bootlicker and someone who seems to be bending down to lick your boot while actually aiming to crotchbutt you.

Even when he manages to put sounds in a way that makes sense by itself, its coming from someone who’s less reliable than a dude with a pea, three nut shells and a card table turns it into a (bitter) joke.

As distinct from a eclectic block of centre left/centre right civil societies who are relaxed and comfortable about their own freedoms, consider the much vaunted merkin lifestyl an ill-affordable indulgence promoted by the same PR firm you had in the '50s and that the UN is rubber stamp of US foreign policy and domestic interests bought & paid for by aging white christian fundamentalists with a profound insecurity complex.

Not directly related, but a there’s a good article in the Guardian today about how Trump screwed up the transition when he became president.

‘This guy doesn’t know anything’: the inside story of Trump’s shambolic transition team

tl;dr Trump refused to prepare for a transition at all. What preparation work Chis Christie did was chucked out, and totally unsuitable people were put in, when positions were filled at all.

Are you Russian? I had no idea

So if someone points out America has flaws, your immediate assumption is that they must live in a shithole and hate America? Are those really the only terms in which you see the world? Is it impossible for you to conceive that someone might actually want to solve problems and improve America’s quality of life?

If a mechanic says your car is broken, does that mean he hates your car? If a doctor says you have an illness, does that mean the doctor hates you? Or does it mean they want to identify the problem so that they can solve it?

Do you react with rage every time someone points out a weakness or an error? (Who am I kidding, of course you do. You can’t imagine a world in which you aren’t surrounded by enemies.)

That’s quite astonishing that someone actually believes this.

I think Trumps acts only in his best self interest. But I’ll bite, what actions had Trump taken that had benefited you?

‘Dude’, trump cares about one thing and one thing only. He could care less about your interests. Oh, if you’re a racist (I’m not claiming YOU are), he will be supporting you because he happens to be a racist. But it’s only a means to an end. That end being finding any group that supports him. Russians (as a patsy), racists, misogynists or whom ever he thinks he can use.

The mind boggles…,

This.

And this.

Same as most politicians, really.

If this were true, then every US President speaking to the UN would be jeered.
However Barack Obama was regularly applauded when he gave his speech. (And of course Obama also won a Nobel Prize.)

Trump was laughed at because he is a compulsive liar who made ludicrous claims.

That’s because Obama is a socialistic anti-American whiner who hates the US with a burning passion. And he was born in Kenya, so he’s one of them.

My take is that they laughed at him because of his incredibly tone deaf speech. He boasted about having accomplished so much, but the audience knows better than he that there is precious little there. He got a Supreme Court nomination that was stolen from his predecessor rammed through. He got his fellow thieves in Congress to pass a tax cut for the wealthy. He reneged on a deal with Iran that was working. He publicly took a knee and sucked Vlad Putin’s dick on the world stage. Where are all the accomplishments?

Even if he did accomplish a lot (which he didn’t), would this be what you talk about with your peers? Would you say on a first date “do you have any idea how great I am?” The only rational response to that is to laugh in his face and bail at the first opportunity. How in the world are other leaders supposed to take him seriously when all he fucking does is brag about himself and lie about others?

You must be devastated to learn that Trump’s ambassador says that the UN loved Trump’s speech.

I think you forgot to add </irony>.

Because your government is going to have to deal with their governments concerning international matters, and if Trump keeps this up the other kids aren’t going to want to play with you when it comes to things like, say, trade. Or sharing intelligence.

This isn’t a Trump business deal. He can’t fuck his opposite numbers like shit, settle out of court and move on to the next sucker. He’s going to have to deal with the countries he insults for as long as he’s the president, and your government is going to have to continue dealing with them after he’s gone. You used to have a number of experienced ambassadors and diplomats to deal with these things, wonder what happened to them.

Yeah, but it’s not about you. He’s supposed to look out for your country’s interests. You and your warm fuzzies for Trump could cease to exist tomorrow, that wouldn’t change the fact that Trump is doing your country no favours.
