"The world's goin' to hell but I'm still here" MMP

seanette, I’m not a big fan of FE either. They could never find my last apartment, instead, leaving things like cooler packed insulin on an exposed porch across the street (evidently, they couldn’t tell the difference between Road and Court).

Got the houseirk done, groceries bought and cards / package dropped ant the post office. Supper was a stoner special. Now for chillage.

And in my case, Pixel is an elderly Chihuahua. :dog:

Howdy Y’all! Stuff got done. I even made a trip to :astonished: Wally Jr. :astonished: whilst out and about. The rest of the day was spent in chillage which included a very nice nap. Woke up all refreshed! Pizza and sallit for sup was especially good. I took some chili and hotdawgs outta da freezer for tomorrow’s big feed. Thus it has been at da cave today.

In my case, the late Pixel was a Dalmatian.

We ordered Chinese for supper. The evening has been full of TV and chillage. I’m going to crash soon. Exciting night at FairyChatEstates!

:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

(grumble mumble) Deliveries are a pain today. The Jungle delayed my shelving unit to tomorrow or Monday, no explanation, and Domino’s is taking forever to get pizza to me. FedEcchs has yet to appear either.

So one of the blinds broke when I opened them this morning, and I grabbed the wrong size at Lowes. Now I got to go back tomorrow after work and get the right ones.

Rancid rodent flavor.

VanGo, don’t beat yourself up too much. A lot of those “prestige” careers pay so much because you’re required to give up your existence to the job. Been there, done that.

Thanks all for the good words. I’m trying to tell myself that I do get to work for myself, do what I like, and actually make a living. But, yanno, I’d like to make a better living.

seanette (nettie?) I’m getting irked by the jungle. What’s with sending things by USPS to a business with a sunday delivery? When am I actually gonna see that?

Skritches to all the Pixels, and, I dunno, an extra mouse to Pretzel. Do snakes enjoy skritches?

They mostly … don’t seem to notice. Sometimes, though, they stop moving and seem to enjoy what might perhaps be an itch being scratched.

To them, for the most part, humans are a warm tree. Not threatening, certainly not food - only the very biggest individuals of the largest species could even come close to considering an adult human as possibly fitting down the gullet - so interactions are, to be brutally honest, primarily for the sake of the human owner.

But hey, we buy them nice enclosures and heat mats, and change their water & feed 'em and clean up their poops. Might as well get something in return out of the deal.

One of the assistant managers quit today. Like, she was supposed to come in this afternoon & just quit instead. I don’t know all the background gossip, though I’m sure stuff will come out of the grapevine over the next few days.

Meanwhile, I’m heating up a chicken pot pie (frozen/boxed - don’t judge!) although I am at least oven baking it instead of just nuking the damn thing.

Well, Domino’s took two hours to arrive cold, and the store was not answering their phones. Heated post on Facebook ensued, while DH was posting reviews and hitting the corporate Contact Us link.

FedEx straight-up LIED about attempting delivery at a time when I was outside my apartment, very alert for any sort of delivery headed my way, with none of their vehicles or drivers visible at any time.

Damn. Corporate America just hates you, huh?

One of Wifey, RN’s patients was playing guitar and singing at a place out in Everson, so we went there for dinner. He was very good. She bought a print (#11 of 14) from him last week for a double sawbuck. It’s a pen-and-ink drawing of a ‘smiling’ alligator by a swimming pool, with an empty shoe nearby. Quite lifelike. Mrs. L.A. is having it framed. The amazing thing is that he’s sight-impared.

Anyway, we both had prime rib for dinner. The Missus had a couple of Blue Hawaiis, and I had a coupla ginnintonics.

Goo and friend.

Goo is a very pretty kitty.

Just to be clear, Goo is on the right.

The other kitty doesn’t have a name.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Good to know. : skritches Goo :

I only judge people based on their 'que sauce.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and mostly clear (partly murky?) with a predicted high of 85 and partly to mostly N.O.S. for the day. Not much doin’ today. I know that comes as a great shock to everyone! Sloth, tackleball, and the makin’/consumption of sup shall rule the day. Sup shall be chili/cheese/onion/slawdawgs and oven fries. Fartfest to follow.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

For someone who claims to be a retired drain on society & talks about sloth all day, you sure do get up early!

At least they deliver to you. Apparently seven miles is too far away for delivery here. Dammit. And the one pizza place that does deliver here raised their prices and did away with all their coupon deals. So if we want pizza, I drive. Dammit. :stuck_out_tongue:

Wouldn’t we all? I worked for the Feds as an engineer for pretty much my whole career. Had I worked in engineering in the real world, I’d have made more money, and I considered it, but honestly, I was comfortable where I was, and I did like what I did. Now that I’m retired, my savings, etc, may not be as cushy as I’d like, but I realized I’m doing OK. The bills are paid, there’s some money to have fun with, and we were even able to pay Roxy’s school tuition, since her parents absolutely couldn’t afford it. So “doing OK” is working out fine.

Personally, I don’t judge unless it’s a Hot Pocket. Those things are nasty! :face_vomiting:

Sometimes, old habits die hard. I don’t know what swampy’s career work schedule was like, but I used to get up around 5 AM for decades. I don’t know if that reset my internal clock or if I’m a morning person by nature, but it’s rare for me to sleep past 6. This morning, however, I didn’t get up till nearly 7:30!!! YOIKS!!

We’re expecting rain later today, so I’ll saddle up John Deere and do mowage/leaf mulchage before then. Our yard is becoming covered in falling tree pieces. Then a cold front is coming thru (lows in the 40s starting tonight) which means I absolutely need to set up the heater in the greenhouse. That also means the windows will probably be closed later this afternoon.

Not sure what else may be on the agenda - probably just figure it out as I go along.

Happy Saturday!!

Hee, I just had a very ‘cultural difference’ complicated conversation with one of my housemates. She’s Chinese, and just asked me why I was here, as it was the weekend. Cue confusion on my part- where else should I be? She then clarified that she assumed that, as I am English, I’d be going ‘home’ for the weekend. Home being where my family live.

It’s a surprisingly tough explanation when someone has a cultural expectation that families live together unless there is a reason not to, when you’re from a ‘move out ASAP’ culture. I think she now thinks she’s put her foot in it and offended me…

Nothing much on the agenda today- I’m debating going to a craft store to buy fabric, having decided I should do the slightly batty aunt thing properly, so should attempt to make a baby quilt for the impending nibling. I have some fabric already- but it’s not quite right… at least not without additions.

Good morning.

I slept in until 4:30 this morning. I don’t think I’ll ever sleep in, even when I do finally get to retire.

No Zoe this weekend, so I can just do what suits me. Depending on the weather, I may shop or I may head up to Mt. Rainier just for the heck of it. I also have chores, but I feel the need to get OUT, so that’s what I’m going to do. Now, watch me do nothing but slothify. My word and I’ve decided it’s a word.

I become irritated when I order something via the big A and the vendor sends it USPS. That’s BS. It happens often, and I’m sick of it. I order from A because I want it delivered to my door, I pay for Prime, by golly, I want I don’t want to trudge down the block to my mailbox. I am paying the sloth tax, damn it, now deliver the stuff to my door! Not a fan of Fed Ex either. I can’t tell you how many times my packages of have disappeared in Oregon. They just all seem to stop there and are never found again. You can’t talk to a real person, or if you do, all they do is look at the obviously the same tracking screen I can see and just repeat what’s there. They are worthless and I would never personally use them for a service. Frankly all of them leave much to be desired anymore. I get it, there are more deliveries going on because of COVID, etc. Perhaps if they didn’t kill their drivers with ridiculous hours and expectations things would be better, but somehow I doubt it. Rant over.

I don’t think Polar was feeling very good yesterday. I hope he feels better today. :frowning:
