"The world's goin' to hell but I'm still here" MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 62 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 87 and N.O.S. for the day. So, a nice Fall day for these parts. Today we shall procure provisions. I shall also take care of some church janitor Junior Warden duties over to the church house. We shall sup upon leftovers from yestiddy. Other than that, sloth and who knows what else shall occur.

red I gather you are happy with the old lady gig. Also sorry for your cousin and her loss.

nellie hopin’ for the best for your sister.

talky hope you get the doc appt. re-scheduled soonest. Sucks when that happens!

Everyone else, yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around, as needed.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and so much bother, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Oh the burden of it all!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Nah, though I’d like to get back into that industry. The pay is better than current food service job. (I work at a chain BBQ joint now.)

I outsourced this to the larger Doper family recently:

There’s tons of suggestions, on various platforms.

Good!

My credit union has a service that automatically monitors your credit card purchases, and you can set criteria. Mine is set so that any on-liine purchase and any purchase over $50 will trigger a text and an email to me. It’s funny to be checking out in Food Lion and as soon as the card is approved, I hear my phone ding!

But after having 3 cards compromised in short order, this is a wonderful service. That, plus it’s one of those cards that you can just hold up to a terminal, so no worries about bogus skimmers. FCD said he doesn’t even have to take the card out of his wallet!

No, you’ve achieved the wisdom of age! Yanno - smart enough to come in out of the rain!

My needles are plastic, so magnetism is worthless. I just want the 5G to kick in so my wi-fi signal is better.

Breakfast out has been canceled. Poor FCD was up for hours in the middle of the night - he came back to bed around 5, and he’s sleeping now - I hope. Tomorrow, we see the pain specialist - here’s hoping for relief soon. This lack of sleep is really messing with him.

So my plans are altered. Food Lion has Diet Coke on sale, among other things. I also need to get the ribs smoked so we can take them to FL. And I think I’ll get my greenhouse veggies planted in the big pots and set the timer on the light. We’ve got 4 fairly warm days forecast, then cooler weather comes back. And about that time, we’ll be heading back to the summer that is Floriduh.

Leaves are falling in abundance, too. So I need to get the mower out. First run will be just mulching them, but soon, I’ll need to hook up the mulcher/vac. That’s going to be a challenge - FCD can’t help me, nor can SIL, and I don’t know if I can muscle that beast out of the shed by myself. Maybe if I put a dolly under the tongue…

Always something. Happy Wednesday!

Happy Hump Day!

Killing a little time before I head out to pet sit. I’m taking the brats with me.
I hope they behave.
Debating taking my laptop.
Probably not, I’ll watch TV, something I never do at home.

Al this talk of credit cards reminds me; I got a text in the middle of the night about one of my cards. I think it’s a scam, but I should check it out before I go.

All y’all have a nice day,

Good morning everyone.

I have read, but retained little because there was a lot of reading to do!

I had to go into the office yesterday to deal with several things and because I had a feeling that a new employee had not been properly set up with a laptop. Turns out I was right, but I fixed everything in very short order. She’s not really an employee I would take care of, but since she will “hotel” in our office and her chain is very far away, I wanted to help. We’re all one team, right?

I have to spend a few hours today and tomorrow in union and labor relations negotiations concerning the COVID shot requirement. There aren’t enough roll-eyes. Get the damn shots, I’m just sick of idiots fighting everything and screwing things up for the rest of us. At stake is potential termination for those who do not comply with the mandate to have their vaccinations by next month. There will be some exemptions, but I think they will be few. Of course, I can’t express any of my personal feelings during these negotiations. I’m irritated that I have to lose several hours to this process. God help me when it’s time for them to renew their collective bargaining agreement next year.

We’re coming up on days and days of rain. I basically have today or one day this weekend to get the lawn mowed because the rest of the days in the 10-day forecast show nothing but rain. I think I’ll knock it out after work today because it’s long now and 10 days of rain is just going to make it a real mess to mow.

Afternoon, mumpers! I have skimmed but retained very little as my head’s in the usual start of term fog. Work’s been crazy, to be honest it’s been crazy for the last 18 months but there doesn’t seem to have been any let-up in the craziness yet. I have booked quite a bit of time off to use the days I need to take before December, I still have 85hrs to use up before Christmas but don’t think I’ll get the chance to use much of that. I have an appointment with our Occupational Health people on Monday for my work-related stress. I am not expecting anything from it, but it will make my boss feel better as she can say she’s done something

I drove up north for a family wedding last weekend which was a very pleasant occasion. All went well, there was no drama and no fistfights. For a bunch of Geordies and Scots, I’d consider that a win! Got plenty of things in the diary over the coming weeks too, loads of things rescheduled from this time last year that are finally coming through. I need a holiday just to get over it!

I did get my flu shot this year but no sign of a covid booster yet. I heard somewhere that it needs to be 180 days after the second shot, but I have no idea if that’s true or not. If it is, I won’t be eligible until the end of November/early December anyway, so I’ll just wait for my summons.

We are hoping international travel to the US opens up for us toxic Brits as we’ve got plans for a trip to Vegas in December. I even have a shiny new passport, and a note to self that I need to update the details on my global entry wossname. And I need to book the cats into a cattery for our November trip to Scotland too, otherwise they’ll end up eating their own legs if we leave them at home relatively unsupervised for a week.

I thought I saw a report that the US is about to let vaccinated folks from Canada and Mexico cross the border, so can crossing the Atlantic be far behind? Who knows… I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

As for the 180 days - that’s pretty much the rule here - well, they say 6 months - same-same. But it’s just for the Pfizer so far, tho we’re expecting to hear Moderna and J&J boosters have been approved, which will be good - SIL got Moderna and FCD got J&J. It’d be great if he could get boosted before we head to FL. But he’s just shy of 65 (Nov 3) so we shall see. We both got flu shots, tho.

He’s still abed. I’m still in robe and slippers. Sky is still overcast. Lazy morning continues…

Can I use this everday? 'Cause we have someone at work who keeps scheduling meetings with no notice and it would make attending those meetings a hell of a lot more fun. “Who scheduled that meeting so damn early in the morning?” “Looks like it was Hemorrhoid Craig.”

Speaking of, we had another one of those meetings that was scheduled at like 10 p.m. for, oh, 9 minutes from now with an “Attendance required.” Given that this person is not on my team and has absolutely no power to require me to attend jack shit, I nearly declined, but two of my team members are going, so as their boss I feel like I have to be mature and listen (even though having two team members already there is redundant; three is stupid, but whatever). Plus, I don’t have a meeting scheduled then (by design - I use that time to organize my brain).

Anyway, today’s going to be on again, off again rain. I’m all ready to waddle when this meeting is over and I hope I can do it outside between raindrops. Oh! I’m gonna get a new coffee pot. Y’all are right - it’s got to be done. I’m off Friday so off to Target I’ll make a pilgrimage in honor of The Great Bean then to see what deals they’ve got.

Can you block out that time in your calendar, so you don’t lose necessary mental org time? Maybe set a “meeting” for just yourself?

This is even funnier if the “someone” in question isn’t even named Craig.

Yeah, I know, I know. Laughing at him = karma coming back to, uh, bite me in the ass.

See? I can’t stop!

('Tis good to be juvenile, dammit!)

I have about an hour before I gotta leave for irk. I sorely need to get the next rat tub set up (I have at least 3 groups that are desperately long overdue for fresh bedding :frowning: ) and there’s constantly more effing laundry to put away, or I could poke around a bit of job hunting crap.

Yeah, you can already tell I donwanna, huh?

I just wanna sit on my ass and play with kitties, and do some cross-stitch out on the side steps since the rain finally let up.
Then I’ll kick myself for not accomplishing anything.

(I did play with Charm, my little snake, for a bit when the cats 1st went out, since they were preoccupied with the fact that water was no longer falling from the sky.)

We just started “Catastrophe” on Amazon. So far, it’s hilarious, if you don’t mind some crudeness.

Okay, I split the difference. Sat on my ass doing some cross-stitch (the gift for my friend, so I could feel like I accomplished something outside my own little needs) but also made a P.B. sandwich for lunch AND scrambled & ate a couple of eggs.

Also heard blue jays, so I tossed a few peanuts out to them & was gratified by how quickly the 1st came - and shouted to his friends - to get their treats.

If I keep up my energy today, I might (might!) go see a friend tonight.

Now I really gotta get going. Onward!

I have 11 whole students in class today. So we are all sitting around, watching Shatner head to space and back and munching on foreign candy. I have to say I found it rather thrilling. First launch I’ve watched live in a looong time. Now I want to go!

Morning all. Slept in until near 9am, rescued the newspaper and took my pills, so the basics are done. I also scheduled my COVID Booster, flu, and pnuemonia shots for this afternoon at the Kroger pharmacy, since I don’t have any soccer practices scheduled, I figured if they made me feel sore, I’d have 24 hours to recover. So that is my adventure for the day.

quietly, also watched the Shatner launch, turned it off before they started making speeches…don’t think I can afford it, but it does give some hope for old, fat guys like me someday going into space.

Taters, good on ya for taking care of the newbie even if you didn’t have too. And don;t roll your eyes to hard during the negotiations…

FCM, hope FCD gets some relief soon. And one of my credit cards is getting replaced (new bank bought out my current bank) soon, so I’ll look into that.

OK, need to get some sustenance and be about the day and not dwell on getting three shots all at one time…

If Murphy and TVCTPMO had an offspring, it would look like dogbutler’s week so far
We’ve been shorthanded, so I’ve been busy. But then again, why pay some Blueberry regular wage, when they can pay me time and a half. :money_mouth_face:

If you want wedding fights, go to a wedding in Pittsburgh. But hope you can come back to this side of the pond soon.

Seconded! I used to block out time to grab lunch too, or I wouldn’t eat.

Nothing much to say here. Pixel is hungry but he doesn’t want that. I assume he’ll come around.

I have a blurf today.

I went to bed early last night, so woke up early this morning. I was freezing, so checked the thermostat: 59º. I like to try to make it to November before turning on the heat–no reason other than the challenge–but I had to turn it on this morning.

I’m going to get back to work on the genealogy stuff this morning. Those dead ancestors aren’t going to research themselves, apparently. My brother sent me a copy of our paternal family tree made 150 years ago. It’d be a huge help if it were legible. Also, what I can read of it is spotty, like a branch that merely says, “Daughters.”

That sounds like the fun part.

shoe and VanGo, good job on feeding yourselves!

Taters, I’ve heard about labor unions fighting the vaccine mandate and am puzzled. I’ve always been pro-union, but I can’t understand how a union can take a stand that actually endangers its members. Hope the negotiations go OK. And happy mowing!

Oh, the irony in that sentence! Seriously hope you can make the trip. The US could stand a little classing up these days.

I’m going to steal this even though I’m retired. I know lots of Hemorrhoid Craigs–piles of 'em, in fact.

Quietly, you got ELEVEN seniors today? I’m amazed. Please don’t go into space. You know what happened the last time a teacher went up. :disappointed_relieved: (Or has there been one since?)

A quick look around shows 3 asleep on the floor, 1 doing school work, 3 reading and the rest playing Monopoly (Hey, it’s an Economics class!)

I totally shoulda blocked the time on my calendar. 'Tis done now for tomorrow and henceforth. I also have a few minutes blocked at the end of the day, a leave-over from when I went into the office so I’d have time to wrap up & get to childcare. I can probably take that off, but sometimes I have to use it for “lunch.”

Right now I’m waiting on tenterhooks for the husband to get going. Love that man, but oy - we would NOT be good business partners, and I’m looking for the end of his furlough. Right now he’s standing on the second step - literally the second step from the top of the stairs - headed to the garage but has gotten totally lost in thought and has been for the last 7 or 8 minutes.

We went out for lunch, then I ran into WalMart to get purple temporary hair color for FCD. Apparently, the wife of one of his coworkers now has purple hair, and FCD dared him to do his beard purple. That led to “I will if you will” and my sweetie intends to call his bluff. So when he gets up from his nap…

I’ve got some boneless ribs in the smoker (I guess really it’s just hunks of poke) and I made a cucumber salad. Next on the agenda is cleaning and slicing strawberries for snackage. Not sure what else I’ll do. It’s still overcast and dreary and my motivation is sorely lacking.

Mrs. L.A. wanted to get rid of her 26" digital TV and a DVD player. I posted them on Nextdoor and Craigslist, and there were no bites. So I’ve just moved them into my bedroom.

She wants me to get rid of my 20" Sony CRT I got around 1992 or so. Last time I turned it on (yonks ago) part of the screen had a red tinge. I suspect it needs to be degaussed. I don’t want to throw it away, but I don’t want to put it on eBay either.
