The WoW "Burning Dog Legion" (Cairne/Horde) 10-man Raid List.

Quite.

Ick was fun; the only reason I died is that when he started to cast his nova I mashed the wrong key and didn’t move :o

Bird, your tanking was not a problem. A couple of times you had some spikey damage and occasionally one of the other pallies pulled aggro, but it wasn’t out of control. After a few pulls I learned not to pre-heal or shield you until you built up some aggro and it was fine.

The only time it got a little crazy were on the first couple of pulls up the hill, when one of the Repentances broke.

Sorry, it’s been a busy couple weeks. I should be alright for next Monday night, unless my gf decides to lock me up in her condo instead.

Sorry again, guys. I neglected my allergy meds over the weekend and paid for it hard yesterday. I do want to join in on the raids, but Monday seems to be pretty rough for me most weeks.

Sorry I haven’t been showing up with Keliraeda. Since I’ve started running Heroics on my main (my human pally) she’s gotten a lot more fun and has been keeping me busy. Keliraeda is essentially a near-clone of my main, aside from gear, so taking a break from my main to play basically the same toon with a different model just isn’t doing it for me. And at this point I can’t manage to get interested in tanking or healing.

I’ve also been investing a lot of my non-pally time to my draenei mage, who is about halfway between lvls 75 and 76. I want to get her to 80 soon so that I can pass her heirloom robe and shoulders down to my [currently-level-28] priest, who has recently started to be a lot of fun.

But for BDL, I have been spending as much time as I can leveling my warlock, Hexpot, (lvl 32 now). I hope to get her to 80 before too long, to help relieve the overabundance of pallys, priests, and druids at the top. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt for Keliraeda to start working that Argent Crusade rep to get access to the heirloom stuff.

Pssssssst! Assuming they’re on the same server, there’s nothing to stop you from mailing the gear back and forth.

Yeah I do that. My char selection screen lets me know which one is naked. But right now I’m using cloth heirloom gear on my boomkin(in training) druid which isn’t working out great. Kinda like my mage was. Lotsa drinking.
But the +20% is key!

Oo, yeah, I didn’t think of that!

Kind of a bummer that all my clothies can share the same heirlooms, but I had to buy completely different mail pieces for my hunter and shaman.

From what I understand, quite a few people just buy the cloth shoulders and use those for all their characters. Even if it’s a Warrior, the 10% XP beats out the useless stats and minimal armor (and even then they grant extra Stam, so they’re not totally useless). If you have a pressing need to use your Emblems for level 80 gear, you can make do with that, and maybe even the cloth chest if you want to live dangerously.

I prefer using class-appropriate gear, though, or at least close enough to be useful. Right now I have cloth shoulders and chest for casters, leather +agility shoulders for rogues, druids, hunters, and enh shammies, and plate shoulders for warriors and pallies.

(Come to think of it, wearing cloth on a non-caster would probably get you kicked if you’re leveling through dungeons. So maybe it’s not as great an idea as it used to be, unless you’re powersoloing.)

My warrior already has the plate shoulders; I bought the mail caster chest for my shaman, and the mail AGI chest and shoulders for my hunter (though all count as leather at this point, since both toons are under 40). Haven’t bought any leather heirlooms, since I just don’t enjoy druids or rogues.

Since my pally is holy, I got him the mail caster heirlooms instead of the plate (there are PvP plate shoulders with caster stats, but I figured if I had the mail set I could use them for a future resto shaman too). I also have the cloth set which I used on my 'lock and the leater agility set my rogue is wearing. Wow I spent a lot on heirlooms!

Since this thread is more BDL-centric than the omnibus WoW thread, I hope no one minds if I use it to post a reminder of our weekly Wednesday night dungeon run.

Tonight we’re doing Steamvault in Coilfang Resevoir. Target level is 68-70. We’ll start around 8:45 server time. If you have an alt (or main!) around that range please join us.

I haven’t set up next monday’s raid yet, but should we attempt Uld10 for the 3rd time? Or would we get better response by trying ToC10 or Ony10? According to wow-heroes they’re only moderately more difficult than Uld10. And it might help that they are both very fast instances (right?) as opposed to the monstrous layout that is Ulduar.
As for the under-geared players (myself included), we may have to get carried once or twice until we start seeing some loot.
Or do people consistently run those and will be raidlocked by Monday?

Whatever generates the best possibility for 10 players actually showing up is the probably the best way to go to break this raidless cycle that’s been going on for the last two weeks.

I still have to get to UP for the Hail to the King achievement, and do the BGs for the School of Hard Knocks achievement…I feel that I show up too late at night to mix it up with our guildies…otherwise, hope anybody can group up with me if you still have some of the children’s week stuff to do.

Ony is just trash + 1 boss, so it’s very fast. ToC is five bosses and no trash, but the learning curve on the first “boss” is pretty steep, because of all the fight mechanics you have to remember. It’s actually three or four bosses, depending on how you count it: first Gormok, then Acidmaw and Dreadscale, then Icehowl–and they’re run gauntlet-style, meaning that if you wipe with Icehowl at a few hundred HP, you still have to start all over again. ToC10 will also be the first raid you don’t outgear, assuming most of the raiders are wearing Triumph badge gear (T9 and equivalent).

One potential complication: ToC is the weekly this week. (I asked Reins today if he was saved, and he wasn’t, and I haven’t done it yet either, but if you’re going to do it you should do it soon.)

Isn’t Ony a bit of a pain though? I’ll admit I never ran Ony in vanilla, but I understand that she’s a complete PITA to get through. Since we’re not overgeared I do not imagine it going smoothly.

We might be able to do Ony. At the very least, we would be able to get in multiple attempts. If you wipe, in only takes a few seconds to run back and try again. I wouldn’t mind attempting ToC but by Monday some people will probably be saved.

Ony isn’t too bad if everyone pays attention. It’s a three-phase fight:

Phase 1: Boss tank grabs Ony, drags her to the middle of the back wall. Add tank grabs whelps as they spawn on the sides. Everyone makes sure to stay away from Ony’s front and back (standard dragon cleave and tail swipe).

Phase 2: Ony launched into the air. Boss tank moves to the entrance tunnel to pick up the large adds that spawn there. Add tank continues to pick up whelps. Melee helps with the big adds (staying behind to avoid cleave), while ranged mostly stay focused on Ony. Everyone moves out of the way of breaths.

Phase 3: The add tank grabs the big add off of the boss tank, if one’s still up, and the boss tank picks Ony up as she lands & gets her back in position. Everyone again must be careful to stay on Ony’s sides, or well behind her in the back, because she will now start fearing, and extra whelps will spawn if you get knocked or feared into the egg caves on either side.

Really, a lot of the fight is just positioning + keeping adds off the squishies + cranking out enough DPS to take her down.

From what I understand, the mechanics aren’t that much different from vanilla, everything just needs to be ramped up. I think, when we try Ony, it won’t be too different from when we did 4 Horsemen in Naxx… just a matter of everyone getting comfortable with where to be and when. I did Ony a gazillion times in vanilla, but that was how long ago? I’d need some refresher too.

This session of hockey ends in the next week or 2, depending on if we make the playoffs. Once that’s done my Monday availability will be better.
