Yeah, we finally have more than enough tanks, which is a nice luxury; we even had another player (Ghastliar) who had a tanking set he could have used but didn’t end up needing to.
That was me over on the left with you and yes, the chains helped. Looking back at it later, I had a thought-- if/when we only have 3 ranged again, how about one of us stay in the middle by the healers instead of 2 on one side and the 3rd on the other? I wasn’t having any range issues where I was standing and if you (or me, or whoever) stays in the middle it would eliminate the running around.
Crease: You don’t want to do that if it’ll mean you’re stacked on the healers. IIRC Saurfang has an ability that will give him Runic Power and/or heal him based on how many people are standing in the vicinity of the person with the debuff.
The healers generally stay as far back as we can from Saurfang, so you might be able to get between us and him and be in range of both sides without being too close to us.
I don’t think we were clear enough on instructions – it was the first time doing gunship for at least one of our guys, and he’d stay over on the other ship longer than was necessary – that dorf hits like a truck after a while if you stay over there too long.
On 10-man, the way I tank the boat is to jump up on the center of the ledge behind Saurfang Sr., wait for him to get close, then jump back down again, to right about the edge of the Horde symbol, around where the Mage portal spawns (using my rocket pack). You need a healer to come over with you to top you off because he will hit you occasionally, but it means that you can have a single group jump over and stay there the whole time, killing axethrowers when there’s not a Battlemage active.
I’d assume there’s a similar structure you can use for Bronzebeard–in fact, the Alliance ship may be even more conducive to rocket kiting, such that a careful tank wouldn’t need a healer at all.
Note that using this method will also net you the achievement I’m on a Boat, assuming that no one falls off, forgets, and jumps back over.
If you’ve got a Pally healer, have the Pally Beacon the jumping tank and raid heal. Voila. The 60 yard range on Beacon heals is fantastic for the gunship battle.
Yep, on my pally I don’t worry about the range at all. But even healing on my priest, I never jump over. If I stand on the edge of our ship I can reach anyone on the other boat, unless they go waay over to the other side.
This will be in the center of the back edge of the boat, so it’s possible that it might be out of range. Dunno where that would fall in terms of concrete numbers.
I was on the left, burning down the blood beasts…I would usually get a crusader strike, a hammer, a white damage swing, exorcism and then I would taunt the beast back to me to finish him off. I then noticed that the beast on the right was still chasing the ranged around, so I went to the right to throw more range attacks to finish that one off…that fight was a lot closer than our previous Saurfang fights.
For anyone other than a pally, you’re right it’s probably to far to heal without jumping over.
Yeti, am I understanding you correctly that you’d be taunting a Blood Beast on to you to kill it at melee range? Wouldn’t that result in it hitting you which is A Bad Thing?
Plus it sounds like we had 4 of us on one Beast and leaving poor Corn out to dry on his own…whoops!

No…I saved the taunt for the end after the other attacks and the beast was much closer to the ranged so I had time to finish it off before it attacked me…well, except once.
Ah, I see, so it was getting too closed to the ranged and you taunted it back to help kite it?
Yeah…and sometimes the taunt finished the job!
In other news…I see a battered hilt for 9k on AH…I’m thinking of pulling the trigger.
Ah, gotcha, I thought you were saying you were taunting it to you so you could hit it more when it started to get out of melee range and I was all :dubious:.

Fuzzy is a Doggie. Somebody keep an eye on our vault and temporarily demote him (I don’t remember his toon name- it’s a 'lock in the high teens iirc- but his SDMB name is in his player note). I’d do it myself but I’m not home right now.
