Things That Go Bzzzzz In The Night: A Ghostly MMP

Nope~~~and it’s driving me nuts (that’s a verrrrry short trip)

Yep

We lost the Internet after three hours. I put on The Great Waldo Pepper, and Xfinity pulled up to put a generator on the pole. They pulled up just as the PSE passed. Power came on shortly thereafter. I think (but have not checked) that they took down the generator. We’re watching the DVD.

Turns out FCD didn’t want supper, so I just threw together a salad. I’ll make the soup tomorrow.

SOMEONE let a 4-y/o drink more than half of a diet coke… after taking her to IHOP for pancakes with lots of syrup. He returned her sugared-up and caffeinated. I should never leave him alone with the kids…

OK, back to the reading posture.

Glad you’ve got power, again! Ours went out yesterday afternoon/evening. From around 2:30pm, until 8pm. It was boring. We enjoyed the quiet house, and listening to the wind. It was extremely windy at the time. I’m pretty much deaf, and even I could hear the wind. It was fabulous!

So, I forgot to mention before that I no longer have an early December gig. I cancelled it this morning. And it will likely be a long, long time before I have another one.

The Reader’s Digest version is that I’ve been doing some soul-searching/having reservations about the whole jazz thing all year; in fact, I’d already started confiding in a couple of people that the 12/1 show could well be my last one. Then this morning some issues with the booker came to a head, and I finally admitted to myself that I’ve been faking my interest/enthusiasm and shouldn’t actually be doing another show. And I think I have legitimate beefs with the booker. So, I cancelled. I’ve notified the three band members I’d hired, and am paying each of them 50% of what I’d offered (as a cancellation fee). I’ve heard from the pianist and bass player, so now I’m just waiting for the drummer to acknowledge my email before I cancel the FB event; I’ll cancel it in the morning if I still haven’t heard from him. No refunds are needed, because no tickets were sold — because no tickets were available yet (among my beefs).

Anyway, the whole situation is way more complicated and emotional than I could ever explain here, but a super simplified version is that I think I’m Done With Jazz…at least, for the foreseeable future. I still have stuff to figure out, including WTF I want to do next (after 13 years of All Jazz All The Time), but in the meantime I’m frankly relieved that this gig isn’t happening anymore. I’m still a jazz fan, though, and will keep going to friends’ gigs, Blues Alley shows, festivals, etc.

Even though I can’t begin to explain/describe everything, thanks for “listening.”

Some of my favorite moments are coming into the house after being out in bad weather. My place is small, but it’s warm and dry and clean and well-lit and there’s a sweet doggy. I adore that cozy feeling.

Our power is a bit flickery, so I’m warming the house up to 65°.

da nada.

Sounds like you did a lot of listening of the most important kind, to yourself.

Evening all. Added a third soccer game today (2pm), so totaled 8 games for the weekend, so I think I did my part. Most of them were assistant ref jobs on the sidelines, which is in some ways more strenuous since 11 year olds can be hard to run with, but I don’t think I made any mistakes (at least not any bad ones) and my stamina and legs are still good, so all that gym work must be helping. Then changed and cleaned up and went over to the next town to the Golden Corral for Soup, Salad, Pot Roast/Rice-n-Gravy, and pecan pie and cookies for dessert. A well-spent $20. Then drove about 25 miles up to Tennessee and contributed $20 to the Great Powerball Madness (and I was not the only one by a long shot). Home now and think that’s where I’ll stay, the day’s activities are beginning to catch up with me.

Oopsie, do what you feel most comfortable in doing; maybe a couple years off will re-ignite your interest or maybe it’ll never come back, but if it’s the right decision for you, go for it.

Flyboy, ace, glad power is back; been pretty lucky here the past few years regarding power outages.

swampy, I’ve known a few young ladies to have meltdowns over brunch, and most of them were old enough to know better!

Hope the aches go away soon, Bumba.

Bright tree, you sure get a lot of mileage in one post  :grinning: Glad your time with the various ladies went so well. No snow forecast for N. Ali-bama (got to 73F today).

Oopsie, always fun to re-connect with folks. Enjoy the off-days and remember the old British slogan “Keep Calm and Sloth On”.

Feel better soon, Sari

Nettie, I follow Freefall among several other SF webcomics (for those interested, The Whiteboard, Spacetrawler, Atomic Robo and more on the steampunk side, Girl Genius)

OK, still need to get several things done and I can feel the energy draining out of me so best get to it. All y’all take care and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.

I like “Whiteboard” and “Girl Genius” too. I also enjoy “Kevin & Kell” and “Questionable Content”, plus some old standbys on GoComics: “Calvin & Hobbes”, “Garfield”, “Pluggers”, “Pickles”, and “Breaking Cat News”. Used to enjoy “General Protection Fault”, but it’s gotten super-draggy in the current storyline.

So sports was a bust today. But at least I got to have the windows open all day.

Sorry it went down that way, but glad you can at least enjoy jazz.

Feel better, bumba

I am imagining the mystery chocolatier reading your posts while cackling and rubbing hands together…not much longer…almost there…next year I’ll send her ONE Hershey’s kiss.

NOOOOOOOO!!!

That’s how come she is going to remember him as the best grandpa ever!

I’ll bet you feel like a whole load has gone away. Good on you.

If there was any chance that doggio would show up on our lawn, I would plant a patch of grass so you would have a good landing spot.

Things have been rather unsettled this weekend so sorry for missing almost everyone. I did read all cause I want to know what has been happening.

The BBQ was fun, folks seemed to like my Deviled eggs (I sprinkled a little smoked paprika on them which got compliments). Hubs got some socialization and is planning on inviting a new friend over for a couple of beers. This makes me very happy.

The lady who lives kittywhompas from us has a bunch of health issues and fell last night. She has a broken hip and arm so will be in the hospital and then rehab for a while. She called me and asked if we would take care of her cats.

Of course we said we would, but when we got there we saw that the paramedics hadn’t fully closed the door and the cats were gone. We managed to put the grabs on one of them, but the other one wouldn’t show itself no matter what we tried.

We put a trap and gooshy fud on a table in the yard and caught a raccoon last night. This morning we found a very upset Raven. I made hubs let the Raven go because he doesn’t like to spend time outdoors and that Raven was never going to forgive whoever he blamed for the indignity.

Of course the poor woman was super upset about her kitty being out, so with her permission, hubs took the screen off her bedroom window and opened it for kitty to jump in.

Kitty was inside and yelling for dinner when I went over at their usual time so the house is secured and kitties are safe.

Thank you! I needed a happy ending for the day.

What good friends you two are. I definitely live in the wrong zip code.

Yay for JtC finding the kitty. I’m so glad that story had a good ending.

unknown (I think that’s right?) It’s what we’re here for. And the small, warm, dry, house with a sweet doggy sounds wonderful!

doggio Sprots not entirely a bust today. My Pats won. Ugly on O, but pretty darn good on D.

I kinda like "Girl Genius" but I dislike graphic novels or whatever you’d call that art form. They made a couple of novels out of the stories which I quite enjoyed. I’d much rather read than look at pictures with captions. I want to know what happens next, so I feel like I skim through the comics and miss stuff.

lol that’s what grandpas are for lol

cool story about the cats Jane … our last cat goes through the screen door and runs around the side of to the back yard so she and the stray we feed can stare longingly at each other like 2 7th graders at their first dance…

ehh ya weren’t feeling it … maybe if ya get in the mood ya can do the guest thing you’ve described before that way you don’t have all the stress and just can show up …

MY dilemma Is I have to find somewhere to sell a ton of VHS tapes some are collectors some are not …and e-bay has destroyed the market for Disney tapes it seems … anyone knows of a serious place let me know …

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. I’ll let one of the daywalkers start the new MMP.

JtC already did.
