Things That Go Bzzzzz In The Night: A Ghostly MMP

Morning all. Slept until 8am again, paper retrieved and pill taken, another beautiful day (heading to 78F), but rain is forecast for tomorrow. Swimmin’ is planned along with a 5:30pm soccer referee job ‘under the lights’. Signed up for 4 games on Saturday, we’ll see how much rain we get and how many uniforms I go through to do the games if they go ahead. At least my weekend is planned.

ace, hope daughter heals up well, she can start making up stories about the scar she’s likely to have.

Taters, a couple of weeks feeling poorly sounds like something that ought to be checked out. Hope you get to feeling better (same for you, talky)

So do I…

JtC, sounds like Grumpy old man is a sweetheart in disguise…but I would expect nothing else of a man married to you…

OK, need to find some sustenance and get about the day. All y’all take care.

It’s raining cats, dogs, and billygoats. My friend will be here in an hour to take me to the train station so I can get to the big city, where my son will pick me up. We’ll have lunch before he drops me off for my post-op appointment. Then I reverse everything, minus my son and lunch. I’ll get home around 8 PM.

ace, that’s a lot of medical news! I think it’s the removal of all the bits that causes the hot flashes, but as it’s been a long time since you last had one and this was more like a long wave than a flash, maybe it was some weird hypothalamus fluke? Ugh, either way, and I hope you don’t get any more.

red, glad Nelson is back to his usual adorable self.

nettie, I know that doggy look. One of my son’s dogs gives you that look every time it rains. It’s Seattle, so it rains all the time.

swampy, the Catholic version of that incense makes me queasy. When I was a kid, our church was in the school basement, so the ventilation was poor, and at High Mass, the incense made me feel like I was suffocating. The nuns told me to offer my suffering to “the poor souls in Purgatory.” I was pretty sure I was about to BE one of them. Once again, the Whiskypalians offer the kinder version.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 10c/50f outside and not expected to change all day, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Could be colder, could be warmer. I wish the weather would make up its fucking mind”. We have had storm conditions and heavy rain for a couple of days, it’s been very windy but today seems much calmer out there. Fortunately I was not required to go anywhere near campus as there’s a train and tram strike so it would take forever to get there.

swampy I am sure you are just jealous of Moooom’s suggestion about the butcher. We all know you’ve got a thing for burly butcher bacon, which must mean it’s really a thing for burly butchers

shoe you really are too harsh a critic! You’re only human, and you are entitled to not be perfect all the time. You apologised, that’s what matters - you realised you did something out of character, and you admitted to it. Now you can move on, knowing you did the right thing, and knowing your colleagues understand that. Bet they’re even more impressed with you now!

red glad to hear Nelson is back on his food again.

Taters sorry to hear Polar had a little mishap :frowning: Ophelia has had more hit and miss accidents around the litter tray recently, I think her eyesight is failing a bit now. Puppy pads are definitely our friend there.

ace good to see you here (as well as on facebrick), I saw your postings about your daughter’s injury, and I’m glad she got treatment for it quickly before she ruined all your carpets! You have a lot of medical things going on between you, fingers crossed everything works out well.

nellie why would the poor souls in Purgatory want your suffering? Haven’t they got enough of their own? Nuns, silly grown up penguins, the lot of 'em.

I have had my head in spreadsheets for exam stuff all day and I am bored with it now. I have a 4pm meeting that I could do without as I’d hoped to finish irk by then, so instead I am spending some time on here so I don’t go over my hours for the week. Sounds fair to me!

Metal Mouse, I’ve had this crud for close to five weeks now. I did see the doc last week and she said it’s just a virus; vitals, lungs, throat, ear canals, and nasal passages looked good and lungs sounded clear. She said that some people are hanging on to this virus for six to eight weeks. I’ve never been this poorly for that long, or even this long, my entire life.

If it’s not cleared up by next Thursday, I’m going to set up another appointment and also ask for an x-ray. This just isn’t normal for me at all.

Morning, all. Had a bad case of Gluteal Myopia this morning, so I called in a sub and slept in a bit. Then it’s out back to whack the rest of the weeds of summer before we fully launch into Winter. Tango has been a little hellion this morning. Lost his collar rassling with Caelan, which made him stealthy, so when he decided to launch sneak attacks on my toes at 4am I didn’t have any warning. Little stinker.

Otherwise a glorious, chilly day in SoCal. Hope everybody ends the week on a high note (Teeeeeeeeee!!) and your weekends are wonderfully wacky.

Heaving went OK. Went to check on my glasses. There was apparently escalation to the store manager, the district manager, and a change in labs since last Friday. The result? 10-14 MORE days to get them. Maybe.

{{{{{A}}}}}

I should do that, and set it against the guy creation an immortal leviathan lobster god. Best unholy giant invertebrate god wins! :lobster: :hocho: :beetle:

One post-Christmas Mass they had replace the creche scene with a smouldering incense burner. When I came in through the corner door, with the pews blocking the view, I almost yelled “HOLY SHIT, THEY’RE ROASTING THE CHRIST CHILD”.

I don’t do funerals. But there was a ‘celebration of life’ for one of our dear friends last night over in the valley and we both wanted to be there. He was one of those people who made you want to be a better person so that you deserved to be his friend, although he accepted everybody for what they were. I don’t think that really explains it, but he was a truly great guy. Anyway, Anyway, since the event was on a Thursday evening, Wifey called our old dentest’s office, (the office manager is an old friend) and asked if there was any way one or both of us could get in and lo and behold, they had two cancellations! So we went over Wednesday so we could be there Thursday morning and did that. Also Wifey had the tire store where we bought our studded tires mount her studs back on the Hyundai. Then we went to the thing and drove back, getting home abut 9:30. We did have a little excitement on the way back. The car advised us that one of our tires was losing pressure. I guess they did something wrong when they mounted the studded tires, or we picked up a foreign object. This morning I had a message from my credit union that someone had spent $3.00 on my debit card for air at Fred Meyer’s gas station, :scream: and was it a valid transaction?
Anyway, we’re home safe and sound(?)

Hope the puppers are better today Red and Taters, and Taters, I hope you get better soonest.

If I was prone to give advice, Shoe, I would advise cutting off all contact with your mom, but I know how difficult and complicated that can be. I didn’t speak to my father for years after I left ‘home’.

Hope daughter’s finger heals up well, Ace. Machetes is dangerous things.

Well, now that I’m caught up need to get a shower and get to doing.

Y’all be careful out there.

(Stayed at the kids house Wed night and they have Hulu, so I watched 3 episodes of Hill Street Blues while there.)

Holy socks, Batman! Have skimmed quickly, seen that there is much drama in my Mumper lives, but I gotta go make pizza, or else this damn town gonna starve.

Strap on a kerchief - screw makeup today - and here we go.

Oh, hush, Monkey, you have food!

I hope that you and taters shake your cooties soonest wordy.

It’s seemed like a Saturday all day, even though I did most of the usual Friday stuff (a non standard day off will do that to you sometimes). I went to the supermercado for some red beans for Sunday’s dinner (red beans and rice, Kroger doesn’t have red beans that aren’t kidney) and some bay leaves and somehow, a pumpkin empanada fell into my buggy. :stuck_out_tongue: That will be good with coffee tomorrow, if it lasts that long.

Howdy Y’all! I did the candle thang and we had a good brunch at Eggs Up Grill. That place has yet to disappoint me. Today I had the pimento cheese burger with home fries. It was hyuuuuuuuge and sooooo good! We both needed to achieve nappage when we got back to da cave. I yanked some snausage outta da freezer so it can thaw. I have decided to make a sausage, cheese, and cornbread casserole for first Sunday brunch. Thus it has been in swampland.

Ace good to see you here on the playground! I read about your daughter slicin’ herself over on the book of faces. Maybe this is punishment for her likin’ sugar in cornbread. Perhaps you should talk to her about mendin’ her ways. Seriously, though, hope she heals fast and with minimal scar.

shoe can Monkey see the bottom of his bowl? If he can, then he will surely strve to death before you get off irk today!

wordy and taters hope both of you get over this stuff soonest and finally.

Nice b-day dinner - Roxy gave her grandpa a screwdriver with changeable tips. She wanted to give him a drill, but Mom put a stop to that plan… SIL said she grabbed a screwdriver that was about 18" long - she’s a trip!

Roxy is spending the night with us. She’s watching some videos on my tablet, and shortly, we’ll have a couple of books. Then sleepy-bye (I hope!) We’ll drop her off tomorrow on our way to the in-laws’ place. I’ll be helping BIL do some on-line job applications. And we’re taking some leftover pot roast and veggies to them.

Later this month, we’ll host Tobias’ first b-day and SIL’s mom is going to come! We had to promise to keep Higgs and the cats contained, so we’ll just do it in the basement. I’ll need to put down a drop cloth when he has cake - he wore FCD’s cake well tonight!

Long day - glad it’s over. Hope I can sleep tonight.

Up from naptime, watching hockey. Making Cajun catfish with rice and sauteed green beans. And a Sazarac.

I really like you!

Five weeks of feeling like crap would make anyone cranky.

Back when I was young, the advice for dealing with the crud was to drink a bottle of whiskey while taking a hot bath, then pass out under all of the blankets in the house to sweat it out. I never tired it, but I’d probably be considering it by this point.

Poor Polar, how upsetting.

My husband had a quad bypass because his heart was too blocked for stents. Open heart surgery sounds horrible and scary (and is) but is actually pretty routine and the surgeons do it all the time and you know what they say about practice. I know it is horrible to think about, but it isn’t the end of the world.

If it does happen, turn into bitch wife and make him get up and walk around. The longer he lays around, the harder his recovery will be. The nurses had hubs up and walking the next day and I enforced the exercise regime his surgeon recommended. Hubs recovered well enough that his heart survived several bouts of un-vaxed COVID.

That would be about right…I’m putting my money on the first load after dinner. Start looking at replacements now, you need to be semi prepared when it does give up the ghost.

That is very sweet of you, but don’t spread it around!

I am impressed and heartened that the propane company has a process set up for anonymous fill-ups. This means that there are enough kind hearted people in the area want such a thing. Sadly, it means there also enough people who need help heating their homes for such a thing to be needed at all.

GG adds his pitiful little starving cat meow.

We are going to a BBQ tomorrow so I boiled up some eggs to devil. Despite doing everything right, including remembering to turn the egg cartons upside down a couple of days ago, the eggs did NOT want to give up their shells, every single one fought me. I also learned that pleated zip-lock bags are NOT a good idea when it comes snipping the corner off and squeezing out the yoke mix. I can’t remember the last time I worked so hard to make something so simple.

Hubs thought that sprinkling them with smoked paprika instead of regular paprika stuff was a good idea, so I’m happy about that.

It appears that we have an Irish Whiskey thief here. I thought we had a bottle in the cabinet because we always have a bottle there. There was no bottle. I looked in the other cabinets because it was very possible that I drank some and then put it in the wrong cabinet, but I couldn’t find any. I asked hubs and he searched as well because there should have been a bottle. None of the other booze was missing. The bottle has been replaced but my desire to have a shot in coffee is gone. I hope it doesn’t evaporate before we next want some.

I was discussing the Mensa thing with Mom last night and she told me that we needed to think about what we were going to bring for the Thanksgiving potluck. As the flyers and updates have all shouted about the catered Thanksgiving dinner and menu, I lied to her again and told her that I got an update TODAY that said we should just bring a dessert and that I would handle it. I know I need to stop lying to her but she gets so distressed when I point this sort of thing out.

Hubs still isn’t sure about having Thanksgiving dinner with us. He’s always up for free food and booze but it would be a long drive home on a very dark highway. He could stay overnight, but GG has never been left alone that long and hubs is pussywhipped when it comes to the cats.

< Mrs. Slocum likes this >

We went out for taco salads and margaritas today.

Happy Friday!

Nice, if chilly morning at the park. We had a good bunch show up.
Lui (aussie/lab) and Jasmine (boxer/lab) got to meet for the first time. I knew they’d be good together and they were.

My morning didn’t start out well.
My first step on the stairs was a wet one.
Cerby peed on the next to top step, and at the bottom of the stairs.
He also got into the trash.
Later he was acting goofy and wanting to go out. I thought he was just being an asshole, but no, he had the squirts.
I guess that’ll teach me to assume.
He is a little jerk though; he likes to sit outside and bark.

So, yesterday’s drama.
Short version.
I text everybody between 6 and 615 to see who is going and coordinate a time.
Yesterday nobody answered but Lucy dad who had gone early (6) and was leaving early (645). I was going to stay home, until Lily mom texted at 630 and said she was leaving in 5 minutes. I said give me 10 and I’ll be there.
She had to leave at 730, and I planned to leave with her.
When I texted my son at 730 to tell him I was leaving, (he waits in the truck until I’m ready to leave, and then he comes out to get Cerby and Echo), I saw that Barky mom had texted at 715 she was on the way.
I debated staying longer, but Cerby and Echo were already at the gate with Lily mom, who was trying to catch Lily.
Unfortunately, my son had fallen asleep and I had to keep calling him, and Barky mom got there before we could leave.
She was VERY PISSED that I was leaving. I thought, “well, if you had texted sooner, maybe I would have stayed, but now that I am up at the gate there is no way in hell I am walking back down to the pavilion.” My knee was killing me.
She could have texted when she got up and told me she was getting ready.
I told her I was sorry I was leaving and she snapped back that I should be.
I know she was pissed, but I just didn’t care.
I was pissed at my son for not waking up, he needs to turn his ringer up.
It took me a half hour to wake him up this morning.

It’s always people causing the drama for sure Swampy. Dogs just wanna have fun.

Lily mom finally met Cerby, and she said she couldn’t read his mood because his tail is always between his legs. I said he doesn’t have a tail. I think he was born with a bobbed tail, but since I don’t know who the breeder is I can’t be sure. It does make it a little different, but he has expressive eyes.

MetalMouse, I wish I could pass this client off to somebody else, but that won’t happen. She requests to talk to me. Besides, nobody wants to deal with her.

I had a cat, Whiskey who always had to have FRESH food. Every time I walked into the kitchen, he’d holler for fresh food. I could walk in, put fresh food in his bowl, walk out, walk right back in and he’d scream for FRESH FOOD. The previous food was 10 seconds old, not fresh enough.
PITA Cat.
He’d also sneak out the door, then realize he was outside and scream to come back in.
I lived in a row house when I had Stormy Cat. She’d go to the back door and ask to go out, see the rain and give me a nasty look. Then she’d go to the front door and ask to go out. Still raining, and another nasty look. It took her a while to figure out that outdoors is outdoors no matter which door you use. Eventually, she figured out she could go out one door, walk around the block, and come in the other door.

Wordy and Taters, I hope you get better soon.
Polar too

{{{Ace}}} that is a lot of stuff to deal with.

It felt like Saturday all day to me too.

Shoe, sorry about the mother problems. Been there, thought I was done, until she died and I got angry all over again. It helps a bit that I know what she went through growing up.
You can’t fix what’s broken.

Tomorrow morning is supposed to be in the 60s. That will be a nice change from the 30s and 40s.

Evening all. Got my swimming and sauna in then refereed a soccer game at 5:30pm and stuck around for the start of the 7pm game. Wendy’s provided sustenance for the evening, and off to be soon as I have 4 games scheduled for tomorrow (along with rain being expected). About6 68F for the game, perfect conditions.

Sari, it ain’t your fault you have your own schedule to keep. Ms. Barky will just have too chill. Good luck with CNW (Client Nobody Wants).

JtC, Don’t know >hic< about your missing >hic< whiskey. Guess the cats got it >hic<. Enjoy the BBQ.

FCM, nice present by Roxy; sounds like she knows Grandpa pretty well (or somebody does…)

Bumba, sounds like a life worth celebrating. And $3.00 charge for air is questioned? At least my Credit card folks wait until they see something more out of line than that.

Taters, five weeks! Understand why it’s wearing you down. Hope your anitbodies finally get to work and de-virus you.

nellie, hope all went well for your appointment.

OK, need to finish up my Sudoku and head off to bed. All y’all take care.

Catman checks out well at his annual vet appointment. He’s recovering under a fleece blanket with a radiant dish heater angled his way.

I got some new pajamas today. I actually said thank you for 25 years to the old pair.

Doc appointment went OK. He said I looked good. I gave him that “Been huffin’ the ether again, doc?” look because a vast area of my body is purple, burgundy, and green, and he said, “I can see beyond the bruising and swelling.” I don’t have to go back for two months.

I had a lovely time with my son, his wife, and the doggos. My son had picked up lunch before fetching me. I had a porcietta sandwich that was to die for. Then I went to the doctor’s appointment, and now I’m home, sweet home.

JtC: I thought of you today because my son’s sandwich had homemade mozzarella on it, and he gave me a bite. Yum.

My sister was the smart one. The nuns always said each holy ejaculation (Not nun porn: they meant religious exclamations) got you so many days out of Purgatory. My sister wanted to know how much time IN Purgatory each sin got you, like, was a lie 90 days? An impure thought a month? The nuns got frustrated because they couldn’t answer.

This had me guffawing loud enough for the neighbors to hear.

That was a great show.

:musical_note: Shake, shake, shake,
shake, shake, shake,
shake your cooties. Shake your cooties.

And I am unanimous in that.

This is jaw-dropping arrogant entitlement. All I could do was gape and sputter when I read it. There’s no excusing that, no matter how nice she might be at other times.
