Things you like that everyone else seems to hate

Motion smoothing on my TV.

Wholeheartedly seconded.

Me three!

I’m not a fan of regular licorice but do enjoy the salmiak (ammonia salt) licorice from time to time. Dubbel zoute drop!

I love regular licorice, and I need to try salmiak.

Sometimes I’ve been in those upscale hotel bars with backlit frosted glass shelves holding dozens and scores of liquors across the spectrum, but never a one of them Pernod.

I’d never heard of salmiak, so I looked it up:

Salty liquorice , salmiak liquorice or salmiac liquorice , is a variety of liquorice flavoured with the ingredient “salmiak salt” (sal ammoniac; ammonium chloride), and is a common confection found in the Nordic countries, Benelux, and northern Germany.[1] Salmiak salt gives salty liquorice an astringent, salty taste,[2] akin to that of tannins—a characteristic of red wines, which adds bitterness and astringency to the flavour.

Sounds like something I’d love!

Don’t start out with something like dubbel zoute, though. Ease into it with some nice salmiak fish or Rondo’s. Or maybe find a nice specialty licorice store where you can sample a few. Here’s a nice salty licorice list to peruse.

Hey, thanks! I just started a thread looking for just this sort of thing!

I’m a lover of various cold cut “loaves”. Give me olive loaf, luxury loaf, Dutch loaf….mmmmm good. My impression is that there are many folks that hate these.

+1. Not only that, but you can fast-forward or, especially, reverse it as fast or a slow as you like to review a scene or a quick detail or glimpse you might have missed. You can do this and it won’t get all pissed off at you and lock up the way streaming seems to, thereby requiring exiting the damn thing and re-starting.

Oh yes. That’s another biggie that seems to be getting more and more common.

Or they’re hiding in coverts. Or maybe hiding in culverts?

O.k. google translated inglad silt as pickled silt. I’ll pass. The Matjes sounds yummy though!

Inlagd Sill. Sorry, my bad!

Heh. I’ll eat that.

You totally should! My favorite is Senapssill, with mustard seed. And if you’re really adventurous you could try surströmming. But that’s at your own risk, alledgedly it’s pretty gross.

Nah, I’ve heard of that before. You can’t trick me! I do really like pickled herring, though. My mom would never eat it, though, because when she was a kid during the Depression, her dad bought a barrel of pickled herring, and that’s all they had to eat for a month.

I like it with sour cream and capers. Yummers.

I like the Swedish varieties. Rollmops, not so much. The Swedish variety is more perishable, though.

Bread crusts including dried out for making dressing.

Raw turnip.

The “tree leaf” part of celery.

Speaking of which: silence. I like music, but I’m perfectly happy with total silence. And I definitely prefer it to having things playing in the background. My family on the other hand will turn on a TV just to have some noise.
