Third Watch: HIV+ Baby?

Please forgive me for posting this if it has been addressed previously; all my search efforts have been thwarted by the dreaded “site not responding” message.

Recently, A&E aired the episode where Carlos Nieto’s possible baby is abandoned at the station and he takes her home to save her from the foster care system. In the television listings and A&E website the description refers to her as HIV+.

My husband and I are fans of this show, a show that is as close as we have ever come to watching a “soap opera,” yet when I tried to find answers by google I found that I could not stomach the general illiteracy and lack of er…reality (e.g. a woman congratulating Doc for saving someone). So after all this blather, here is my question:

Where is it in the show said that “Kylie” is HIV+? I have seen that episode, and some subsequent episodes and have not seen this reference. The “Nieto” character is so self-involved that I would think they (the writers) would have him have a “testing freak-out” or some such fit. Does he ever actually get a paternity test?

When we turn on the television to watch this show, we jokingly call this “our stories,” and I am embarrassed by this compulsion to know the details—my only excuse is that we are in the process of moving, and I am seeking out every opportunity to distract myself from this depressing packing of knick-knacks, clothes we never wear, and other things only of interest to our hypothetical children.

As far as I recall from the episode, it’s the mother not the baby that has HIV. The baby is on more than one episode, and the possiblity her being infected is never brought up after that episode, if then (sorry, it’s been a while since I saw it). They screw up the listings frequently.
