This is good stuff, pass it on.

What items / consumables have you been introduced to, while at a picnic or other function, that you didn’t even knew existed, but have since bought, or plan on buying?

Clarification : I am trying to go more for Brand names of foodstuffs, over a category of food that is “new to me”.

There was a picnic / grill out with my Church Youth Group years back. One of the Adult leaders introduced me to Munchos.

Which, as you can probably guess, is a potato snack. - Its a potato crisp, instead of a chip. As far as I can tell, “crisp” comes into play based on how the units are formed. IIRC, they are not full slices of potato, so they can not be called chips. - I am aware of the UK usage of the word “crisp” and I do not think this enters play here.

Just last month, someone handed me a Mike’s Harder Lemonade. Overall I enjoyed it, and I’m not just saying that because of the 8% alc vol.

What items were you introduced to, that you are “keeping on file” ?

Actually the potatoness of chips and crisps - Pringles in particular has been the subject of great debate recently in England.

I’m more of a cracker fiend myself - now munching Jacobs Choice Grain.

The Sea Salt variety of corn chips branded “Margaritaville” are new favorites at our house, and their salsa is excellent too. The chips are thin and crisp and salty and the salsa is fresh, and not thickened like some of the others. We’re in love!

Salt and Cracked Pepper Kettle Chips by Lays, I think. Yum!

Does this have to be some kind of potato chip/crisp?!

If not I have recently been introduced to Ambrosia Semolina. Lovely stuff, I will definitely be eating that again!

A friend turned me on to a BBQ sauce called “Rufus Teague made some sauce he put it in a jar and shared it with the boys they kept on painin’ him ‘til he fixed up another batch next thing he knew he’s makin’ some all the time it’s so damn good.” I ended up giving my BIL 3 pints of it for Christmas – hot, mild, and sweet.

Monkey bread. So easy to make, and so damn good it’ll make your dog weep.

Pickapeppa Sauce. My room mate in college turned me on to this stuff. Pour a bottle over a block of cream cheese, add Wheat Thins and you’re ready for the pot luck!

Art and Mary’s potato chips, particularly jalepeno flavor.

Zapp’s potato chips, particularly Tabasco Creole Tomato flavor.

Tim’s potato chips.

Hawaiian brand potato chips (also made by Tim’s)

Central Market store brand Hatch green chile flavored corn chips.

Emerald brand dry-roasted almonds and walnuts.

St. Peter’s Brewery beers. All of them.

Ace perry cider.

Hendrick’s gin.

Schweppes Bitter Lemon soda (goes well with gin).

Hansen’s diet ginger ale.

La Croix brand grapefruit flavored seltzer.

Beemster Grasskaas cheese.

Arina goat gouda cheese.

Shropshire Blue cheese (don’t have a brand).

Rosa Mexicana brand salsas, particularly Chile Pasilla de Oaxaca.

Tabasco brand chipotle sauce.

HP Sauce.

Which is…what?

Oooh, that’s what I was going to mention! Having only ever used Worchestershire sauce and A-1, I was really surprised by Pickapeppa…love it, love it.

Someone at the July 4th BBQ made Deep Fried Jalapenos. Sliced the peppers thin, coated in bread crumbs and fried up in cooking oil, served with Ranch dressing for dipping…Yum Yum!!

Marinated artichoke hearts. Delicious. But nowadays, to cut down on fat, I buy them plain, packed in water. Almost as good.

Hearts of palm. A wonderful little texture food.

Oh yeah! We just discovered those too.

Not a food item, but Lime-A-Way got rid of a toilet ring that I’d tried everything on – Comet, Zud, bleach, even CLR. I think it’s similar to CLR but it has a thicker consistency – clings to the bowl long enough to dissolve whatever the hell it is.

Wasabi peas

Utz Sweet potato chips

Food discussions are served up in Cafe Society.

I was introduced to those when somebody brought an Asian Snack Mix to an office Christmas party. Tried one and couldn’t get enough. Unfortunately, I later broke a tooth on one and had to get a crown for it. That cost me nearly $1,000–a rather expensive wasabi pea.

Grolsch beer. And toffee candy bars. But not at the same time, because they really don’t go together at all well.

Just a few days ago, Renee’s Mighty Caesar Salad dressing crossed my lips. I never realized how much just a smidgeon of anchovy paste can make an “oh, this again” salad into a “this is awesome!” salad. It reminded me of made-at-the-table dressing you get in some restaurants.

I received a bag of yogurt-covered pretzels from a co-worker one year and it took me several days to work up the nerve to try them. Sounded like a stupid combination, but they were delicious.

Balderson’s extra old cheddar. Best stuff I’ve tasted.

Pizza 73 makes (or heats, whatever) the best chicken wings I’ve had in recent memory. Now I’m craving them.

Edit: Perhaps Pizza 73 is only in Canada, eh? Pity.
