I forgot to tell y’all but the other major excitatement in my life is the roof folk are finally replacin’ the awnin’s over the back porch and deck. It’s two awnin’s because the deck was added on after the porch which was already covered. So, they should finish up today to which I say yay because I will need to clean the porch and deck on top of all the other stuff I need to do for the Fourth. It’s supposed to be rainy Thursday so it’ll likely be a day of hangin’ out there since it also won’t be oppresively hawt. Should there be a let up in rain there shall also be cee-mint pond time.
OOH! I have three, count ‘em three, fresh from the field watermelons! I have a feelin’ one will be gotten into tonight bein’ as it managed to get itself into the fridge to get all nice and chilled.
Just finished my interview for the fisheries monitor job - it sounds so cool! I really hope I get it. The guy said he had one or 2 others to interview and he said he’d let me know either way. One thing in my/our favor - **FCD **could be my backup in case I couldn’t work a specific day. Here’s hoping the team approach will land this for me/us!
Still wet/drizzly out so I don’t know if I’ll get anything done in the garden today. We shall see.
Ugh, our AC had been acting funny, zones freezing that we had off and parts not cooling that were turned on. It’s a problem when the bedroom is involved. Turns out they have to replace the circuit boards and 11 electronic dampers plus all the thermostats. Then more good news… pretty soon we have to replace everything else, all 8 tons of stuff in the attic, outside, etc. I figure… it’s a car. Oy.
That’s Spidey. At least my fridges are good. Maybe I should just leave their doors open.
Our AC compressor unit busted a couple years ago–we were looking at the possibility of having to replace the entire system because the entire industry moved away from freon like the year before. Luckily, the repair place found one last unit in a warehouse somewhere, so it only cost us a couple thousand dollars rather than several. I wish you luck.
It’s been an interesting and entertaining morning–apparently, my ex broke up with his current girlfriend over the weekend, and everybody and their mother has been rushing to tell me all about it because they all kind of believe that he and I should still be together. (FYI, we broke up in 1996. There’s a saga. It takes almost as long to tell as it took to happen.) Hell, even he told me first thing this morning. The problem is that the details I might get are all from other sources, and none of those sources (which include his mother via his sister via other friends–all of whom will relay the same information differently) are trustworthy. So it’s kind of a hilarious game of telephone combined with a detective story. At least it’s keeping me awake.
That does not sound good, lieu. I don’t have AC in the house. The house is wired for it, but I would have to replace the furnace to actually have AC. I’m not going to do that. Temps in the 90s are rare up here, so we don’t see the need for AC.
Sorry Drae, but yesterday sucked big time and today will be more of the same. I hate this job. Unfortunately, I’ve got to stick it out until something comes along. I’ve applied for a couple of positions, but the wheels of government turn slowly and I don’t even know if I’m considered “qualified” and referred yet.
It’s supposed be somewhat cooler today. I sure hope it is. There was a nice marine layer this morning, so it was it was nice and cool and felt good.
Well, I suppose I should dig into my many projects here at work. Have a good day folks.
This in no way compares to the wildfires you lot are having, but it is the largest industrial fire to hit the region where I live.
I travel past this area on the train every day and saw the huge plume of smoke from the fire. It was apparently started by a Chinese lantern that landed in a stock of recycled paper and plastics.
Eesh! I wonder how long it’s going to be before those chinese lanterns get banned…
One definitely gets more interesting instructors on security courses than on the standard stuff the jobcentre deals with- today’s guy said his first security job was working a nightclub door in tandem with one David Prowse.
I reckon Darth Vader on the door would probably keep trouble down a bit
I still haven’t managed to get the money situation sorted, but at least I got the forms today, and I should be able to hand stuff in tomorrow. The builders haven’t been back, and my stress level is starting to go down a little.
Well I figure it’s a good time to post as, right at this moment, there are no catastrophes occurring. As Taters has mentioned the weather has been absurdly hot. As I was waking up, but with my eyes still closed, I could smell and feel the moisture in the air, gotta love that lovely marine layer that crept in during the wee hours, I actually got some sleep.
I have been battling black spot on my roses all spring, and I finally seem to be getting the upper hand. I have added two new roses which I have been coveting for almost two years. Both are floribundas, Cinco de Mayo has a lovely half double bloom and is the most interesting shades of raspberry and plum, not much scent though. The other is Ebb Tide, in cool weather it’s purple, warmer weather turns it a bit pinker, but I wanted this one for it’s fragrance which all the reviews I have read describe as spicy (clove) and is detectable from a few feet away. They are all on the deck in pots, which my bedroom overlooks, so planting fragrant flowers out there is not an accident! I also have something like 11 or 12 dahlias going this year, I love dahlias.
Mom is declining steadily, dad isn’t far behind. It’s hard.
I spent last week down at the south end of the state at my daughter’s. I told her I would help her beat her flower beds back into submission. Her house is surrounded by, among other things, roses. Guess what I am going to be fighting down there? If you said black spot you get a gold star.
Well I’m going to finish my coffee and try to do something productive. Rosie’s sig to everyone, as the heat has melted my brains. Happy Tuesday all y’all!
I am busy busy busy with piddle pup.
I came home because Toosday is laundry day and pizza day but first I need a little nap.
Still deciding on the house. I’ve gotten an estimate form the plumber, waiting to meet with a carpenter for an estimate and just found out my insurance company won’t insure houses built before 1901 so I have to shop around for a different one.
Every year on the 4th my aunt and uncle a few towns over throw a party, they have a big house and a big pool. Everybody is supposed to bring something and I don’t know if we chip in cash or not, I think we do. I’m not going again this year because of pet sitting. I hear the family is disappointed but who knows, maybe I will show up but I won’t be able to stay long. However it would be nice to see everybody.
hugs, kisses, congrats, smacks, bops on the head and sri lankan spiders distributed as needed. I will catch up later when my eyes stop burning and fog clears my brain.
One and a half days to go until my 4 day weekend kicks in. I also think I might work from home after lunch tomorrow as well
I have some b*&^@#%t online training thing I need to power through at some point and today seems like a good day to do it as I am waiting on Month End Reports to populate dashboards etc which won’t be until tomorrow. I can have b&^@#%t online training thing* open on one screen and something else open on the other. This might work and fill in a couple of hours in the process
Yeah, I’m diggin’ on what’s coming up… a 4 day weekend followed by 8 days of vacation. I plan on being brown as a berry, fit as a fiddle and carefree as a bird when I return. Actually, I’m devoting myself to idioms over the coming weeks.
I got all motivated and planted all but one hosta, plus 3 cone flowers, 2 daisies, and I transplanted a hydrangea. I also put all the lilies on the wagon and pulled them around to the back yard where I watered them down. We’ll get them in the ground tomorrow.
Then I came in, showered, and folded a load of unders. I hated using the dryer, but ya gotta have unders… I’ll do the rest of the laundry on Thurs because it’s supposed to be sunny.
Before all that, we ran to Michael’s so **FCD **could get some paints for his airbrush. He wants to decorate his bike, but he wants to practice first. Then we swung by the grocery store for sammich makin’s, and finally stopped at a local farm stand for sweet corn and 'maters. Yum!!
We got a tboomer a happenin’. Hope it goes away shortly or before I head cavewards. I want to stop at the Publix and get some hot wings. They got ‘em fresh (so they say) for ten cents a piece. I’m thinkin’ some hot wings, a rice sidedish and maybe peas and carrots would make for a decent and easy dindin. In the meantime it’s all KA*BOOMY outside.
